GDog
Have I correctly observed that in CMSF, when one unit has LOS to an enemy effectively "spotting" him this no longer grants that information to other friendly units? What I mean is, when I click on unit A, I can see the enemy icons of the units he can see only. If I then click on unit B on the other side of the map, I then only see the units he has LOS to...is this correct? I notice this because I'm pretty sure in CM1, once a enemy was spotted by ANY friendly unit, it allowed the commander ( ME ) to know about the enemy's location regardless of who I have selected...am I recalling this correctly? Thanks
Michael Dorosh
This is all correct. "Borg spotting" as we called it was a major bugbear in CMX1 and has been corrected in the new engine. "Relative spotting" is as you describe, and is a new feature.
metalbrew
What you're asking about is "borg spotting". It means when one friendly unit sees the enemy every friendly unit sees the enemy. In the CMx1 series, this was widely viewed as very unrealistic. It's now turned off in CM:SF. Over time, friendly units do relay spotting info to each other, it's just not instant like in the CMx1 series. I believe if you play CM:SF on the "bootcamp" difficulty this behavior (borg spotting) is re-enabled.

One should note that this is based on communications ability - runners, radio, Blue Force tracker, etc., and is intentional.

Leave the unrealistic instant sharing of spotting information between units out, I agree that is unrealistic. But make life easier for us the commanders. I am able to establish all enemy units spotted at any one time anyways, difference is now I have to click on each unit individually and remember where the enemy is.
Becket
This last assumption is not true, GDog. If you have no friendly unit selected, you can see all visible enemy units.
Pandur
...runners... good you bring this up, i allways wonder about. is this symbol with the "single" man, wich replaces the "mouth" and the "eye" a runner. i asumed that but i couldnt find it in the PDF manual as it is uncompftable to scroll through
Michael Dorosh
I believe it means "voice control" or somefink as opposed to having a radio.

It makes sense and basically gives me exactly what I want.

KNac
In addition, if you play in elite mode you will notice that when you select a friendly unit, it wont see any other friendly unit which it's not in contact.
