Confused about FO's

Recommended Posts

I am a little confused how FO + FO Strykers work.

Do you call in Arty from the vehicle? Dismount the FO and then call it in? Can a unmounted FO Stryker be used to call it in effectivley?

What about HQ's? Do they need to be out of their stryker to effectivley call in Arty?

I just want to make sure I understand. Is it better for an FO to call in a strike while inside an FO Stryker? I tend to dismount them so that they can climb buildings and be less of a target. However, am I sacrificing speed or accuracy by leaving the vehicle?

By coincidence i was in this very situation last night. I *thought* I noted a difference between FO speed in and out of a FO Stryker. But second playthrough I wasn't able to duplicate it. It left me scratching my head. Some thngs in this game are too subtle for my tiny brain. Like I've been told repeatedly that yes, an unbuttoned Syrian tank does have superior spotting ability... but I'm damned if i can discern it!

You know, I haven't seen any difference for the FO in or out of the vehicle. The fire missions are still the same amount of time for it to take to fire the first round down range. Maybe it also depends on what type of mission it is.

Yes, you would think that but I have been testing arty fire mission and I didn't see any big difference from using just the FOs outside of the vehicle compared to if they were inside them. As for missions that uses Precision guide rounds, which is stated in the manual for only FIST vehicles. I didn't see any type of precision arty rounds. Maybe just overlooked it and didn't see it when testing.

I concur with JohnO on this. There is no decernable difference wether the FO is in or out of the FSV. We know that it allows for 1st round hit accuracy in real world situations. Due to onboard fire control computer, GPS, Laser, Optics all integrated.

It is one of the great unanswered questions. Even the Betas don't get the answer.

YankeeDog may have a point. How often do we mess around with air support as opposed to artillery? I'm just now recalling something I spotted in the manual, that the a laser designator permits use of precision ordnance from aircraft. Looks like we've stumbled on something new and interesting to test! :D

While were at this subject, I tested not only the regular FOs for arty I tested the JTAC and its vehicle. And I couldn't see any difference with the JTAC on the ground or in the FIST vehicle. However I did noticed that the JTAC can not only call for airstrikes but arty missions as well. But the FOs can only call arty fire missions and not air strikes?
