Never used it myself, but I know there are utilities for converting HTML to XML, so it will probably supercede HTML eventually. I think the main difference is HTML just describes how info should be presented on a page, whereas XML also describes what the data is.

XML defines and holds the data, it's like a name/value pair codified. You then render it via XSLT (think there's other methods). It's about the most inefficient method of data transfer that you could possibly imagine, it also makes no sense without the XSLT & wouldn't allow non technical people to have a stab at it.

HTML for me, any day.

XML is not a replacement for HTML.

XML and HTML were designed with different goals:

XML was designed to describe data and to focus on what data is.

HTML was designed to display data and to focus on how data looks.

HTML is about displaying information, while XML is about describing information.
