MOREpheenPleeeze
Why does BTS not make available for download the complete manual, say in PDF as is the case with many demos?

MOREpheenPleeeze
Would one of you guys explain how posting manuals would threaten sales?
ARRPEEGEE
MORE: Alot of folks who D/L warez games tend to come around looking for manuals..It's their copyright, and they don't want to help those who D/L it illegally, by giving them a free manual to help them figure out how to play it.. That's what they mean. I don't think it ultimately threatens sales, as warez guys are warez guys..they won't buy it anyways..But, it's copyrighted material, and they don't want it distributed, and I see why. Chupacabra
One of the downsides to getting a warez version of CMBB (along with the moral degeneracy, the threat of viruses, and more porn popups and bad uses of comet cursor (are there any good uses of comet cursor?) than you can shake a stick at) is that you don't get to read the manual. Not having the manual makes it harder to play the game. By providing a copy of the manual over the web, you're making it easier to pirate the game. Think of it, have you ever seen any other software publishers post copies of their documentation on the web?
JunoReactor
besides, the manual is just as much the intellectual property of BTS as the game itself - altough it should be noted that the inclusion of the pdf manual in the European version of the game will mean that everyone who gets a pirated CD of it will also have the manual. So I guess you save some, lose some...
Epée
Many wargame/boardgame authors publish the manual online for would-be buyers to peruse. That's pretty cool. As for CMBB/PC games, I think it would encourage piracy having the manual available for download.

gunnergoz
They have posted a Demo of the game, along with supporting documentation. Isn't that enough for a reasonable person to peruse while deciding whether or not to purchase the game? Just wondering...
FEBA
I think that since the manual is in pdf already on the distributed CD that any pirates/warez types are going to get the manual when (and hopefully never) they get the executable anyway. That said, as others have pointed out, BFC owns the copyright and should do what they think best serves their interest. As someone who has pre-ordered I sure would like to peruse the manual now, but I guess, tomorrow or tuesday will have to do.

I think only part of the manual is in .pdf form - IIRC, it mostly has to do with using the editor and descriptions of armor penetration. The explanations of how to play are in the 90 pg written manual. Caveat - this is my understanding based on reading forum posts; I don't have the game yet. ARRPEEGEE
Actually, there are on-line manuals..It does happen..Sub Command, for instance, has an on-line manual. I haven't heard anyone mention what sounds to be the CMBB anti-warez weapon, however...LOL-If they filled up an entire CD, and stuffed it-heh..imagine the dumb warez jerk trying to D/L it on a 56k They'll give up before too long. Fortunately, though..I don't think CM is a real 'warez' fan game..it's turn based! you have to wait 5 seconds before you see something blow up! From Troika games, released their manual before the game shipped. A lousy idea. [ September 23, 2002, 05:28 AM: Message edited by: Geier ]
