Rob Murray
I've just started to design my own scenarios & I'd appreciate some tips please. Thanks in advance.
klapton
Think small; don't try to do a MEGA-battle the first time. They are not necessarily funny. Spend time ensuring that the map looks fine and realistic. Check if roads and waterways are well placed. Avoid very large areas covered with the same terrain; they look dull. Do the scenario for a specific type of play, either PBEM or against AI. Rarely a scenario is good for both. Be aware of the weaknesses of the AI. Look for a good initial setup for both sides. Specifically, check that all squads are in C&C, and that units won't fire on the enemy at the start of the first turn (unless you want it intentionally). Test it, and look for testers in the forum. Rob Murray
Okay thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to start small & work up.
WWB
1) Do a search in this forum for "7 Deadly Sins of Mapmaking" or something like that. 2) Playtest. Playtest. Playtest. First yourself, then find some victims err, volunteers. 3) Like stated above, start small. But not too small--getting tiny battles balanced is a bitch. Rob Murray
Thanks for the help. I having some problems with placing towns/villages. I want them at or near the centre of my map. Problem is I don't know how to do that. How do you do that? Thanks again.
klapton
What is the problem exactly? Define the size of your map, then place buildings near the center. Check with Preview that they are where you want. If not, return to the editor, relocate them and Preview again.
Slappy
Holding 'shift' down in the map editor while you increase/decrease map size does this from the West/South not the usual North/East. You can put your village wherever you want.
McAuliffe
Would suggest to have a look here : Tips and Tricks of CM Scenario Design
kipanderson
Hi, For me the series of Battle of the Bulge scenarios that were designed by McAuliffe and came out soon after the release of CMBO, really set the standard. You cannot do better than follow the above link to his tips on scenario design. Very much looking forward to seeing what McAuliffe will getup to in CMBB, particularly the maps. All the best, Kip.
