Mini AAR and Screenshots of Finnish super soldiers!!

Recommended Posts

I was planning on posting a long, detailed AAR of a QB played with the girlfriend the other day. It turned out most of the battle was pretty uninteresting, so I'll describe in some detail the pivotal turning point of the battle.

The battle was set in December '42 in the Finland area. We (my girlfriend hates competition, so we each play a company + support elements) were to assault a tree-lined ridge and capture 3 flags. We had a total of 2 companies of ski troops, 3 light tanks (not sure of the type at this point), 1 captured T-34, and 2 81mm spotters.

Splitting our forces, I would advance up the right side of the map with my company and the T-34, while my gf would advance up the left with the remaining armor and both spotters. On my side, I experienced no contact for quite some time. My gf, however, ran into some trouble quickly. First, a wooden MG pillbox disrupted one of her platoons until her light armor pummeled the fortification with about 3turns worth of direct fire HE.

I continued my advance unhindered while she dealt with slight disruptions all the way to her objective, the leftmost flag. Things were going well on my side once contact was made. I captured the crew from a light ATG before it even fired a shot, and routed a defending infantry platoon with help from my T-34. Victory was near for us until...

An enemy T-34 popped up not far from one of my infantry platoons. Luckily, I thought, my tank had the drop on him. I guess that doesn't make up for horrible aim. His first shot missed, triggering a hearty F#*K! from both me and my gf.

The enemy tank rotates it's turret and puts a round through the turret, killing one and panicking the rest of the crew. The next shot KOs my tank. I am left without armor protection.

The enemy T-34 decimates the platoon caught in the open, but my other platoons make it to the safety of the woods near the large flag. Fighting off remaining infantry around the flag, I was well aware of the danger presented by the lone T-34. Once the remaining enemy infantry was driven off, I hid my squads and prepared for the worst.

Meanwhile, in a frantic attempt to come to my rescue, my gf lost all three light tanks. Two to an enemy light tank, and one immobilized. There would be no relief.

While the squads spread out in the woods hid, two other platoons were in a desperate firefight to take the third flag on my right a little further back the flag in the woods. I was suffering heavy casualties, and decided our chance for victory was slipping fast. Then it happened. The T-34 started lumbering towards the woods. He hit a point from which to fire on my platoons fighting for the third flag, and started firing canister...

The canister shot has devastating effect on morale let me tell you. My squads broke one by one and ran for cover. Meanwhile, one brave squad, which probably spawned the myth of the Finnish super soldier, went above and beyond.

The next series of screens chronicle the heroic deeds of my lone squad.

Thanks to the selfless sacrifice of the heroic rifle squad, my remaining squads eventually rallied. The result was a minor victory for the Axis.

Sorry there's not a whole lot of meat to my AAR, but the battle was a few nights ago, and I forgot to take a lot of screenshots. I am working on a new one that should be done soon.

Hope you've enjoyed the screens.

Hmm... I assume your pressing "print screen", minimizing CM, and then pasting the image in paint or something? If so, I have no idea what's wrong.

Heh. Yes, I am quite lucky. I don't think I could find anyone else willing to play CM with me. Let alone put up with my poor housekeeping abilities and total disregard for my appearance. I think the ability to play Finnish soldiers is what makes it possible. She used to play CMBO with me on occasion, but she seems much more excited now. She insisted on playing ski troops. :D
