Becket
I loathe you all. Anyway: New Glantz book out: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0700613536/ref%3Dpd%5Fnfy%5Fe2%5Fnr/102-9421569-5452957 Just finished Richard Frank's Downfall. I thought Guadalcanal was a fine book, and he's surpassed that work in just about every way. It's a must read, IMO, to dash some long held myths about the end of the war in Japan (namely, that the Japanese were ready to unconditionally surrender before the bombs, that Truman dropped the bombs to scare the Soviets, that the Japanese surrendered due to Soviet intervention). Started Rokossovsky's memoirs yesterday ("A Soldier's Duty"). The heavy hand of censors is apparent but it's still a great read. Also very cool to have a book that announces it was printed in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

PseudoSimonds
That's very good. Now type it all out again in the other version of our thread . Apparently Axe's title was too subtle for some.   Locking this one up.
