Now I don't know if this story is true, but I'll relate it anyway.

The late, great Phil Hartman was working as a roadie for a Hendrix gig.

Mitch Mitchell, the drummer, played a double bass kit and was on a slightly raised part of the stage behind Hendrix and bassist Noel Redding.

The phrenetic booming of the bass drums kept them sliding forward, close to falling off the raised part of the stage.

Because of this, Hartman was directed to stand in front of the bass drums and push against them so they wouldn't slide off.

So he's doing this with the bass reverberations smashing into his face when Hendrix, mid-solo, looks back over his shoulder and screams "We're rocking now roadie man!!!"
