Der Kuenstler
Let's say I have a HQ unit observing from a patch of woods and don't want him to fire and give away his position. I put a 20m cover arc on him. Question: Does he still spot with the same efficiency or is he looking mainly at the ground 20m in front of him?
Sanok
I do this all the time and the HQs seem to spot the same as they would without the arc. Of course, I've never specifically tested it in the editor.
JasonC
Yes, it works fine. By using a short arc instead of hide, you control the fire just as well and get full spotting ability. The only thing you are giving up is some stealth about being spotted, yourself. Which rarely matters, in good cover or at range. Be a bit more careful in desert terrain, though. Stationary in brush, for example, you can be spotted at 100-150m even without moving or firing, if you aren't hiding. If you need to see, obviously use an arc. But if e.g. it is a matter of an enemy tank coming your way, time to put the binocs away and get down.
michael_wittman44
could you possibly use the HIDE command and a covered arc at the same time??? If so what would happen??
tar
You can. But by hiding, your spotting ability declines as well. I believe that a unit entering your covered arc will cause you to unhide and engage.
roqf77
it does. best way to use at teams to knock out tanks. v infantry like jason c says its not always the best idea, although it can be useful on the defence especialy when setting up mg snd mortar ambushes.
