If I remember well, the pictures I've found come also from a book about russian camouflage during WW2. The author may be Steven Zaloga, i'm not sure but, because I have the book (somewhere in the appartment... ) I will find it and check this evening. I've read it some years ago but there's a lot of pictures and drawings : heavy assault guns, tanks, camouflages, whitewash variants... Does anyone know this book ? What has surprised me was that many SU and ISU had a 2 or 3 colours camouflages pattern during the end of war (44-45). It looks very nice. What I didn't know before reading this book was that Russians didn't just write political slogans on their vehicles. Regards.
Humus B. Chittenbee
Question re the pictures... Even to a non-tank-grog such as myself, the top pics are of very obviously different tanks, but the bottom two appear to be of the same model (I only saw a slight difference in the front hull slope.) So I 'cheated' and looked at the titles of the two pictures. By that reckoning, they are the same tank -- yet I see a difference. So ... same tank, different year? ... same tank, beta version 1.2? Inquiring minds want to know.
Kwazydog
Just for the record guys, no camoed Russian vehicles were included with CMBB becuase it was extremely rare. In fact, its use pretty much ended in late '42 to early '43. When used, it was only used by certain units on certain fronts, and was used as much for unit identification as for its camouflaging properties. KV-2
Hi, Here you can find a lot of excellent KV color plates: http://armor.kiev.ua/Tanks/WWII/KV/ Enjoy!
mchlstrt
I'm interested in any Camo/ Markings for any of the T-26 series, as I'm Modding them. Trying to upload the first one now, as a mattrofak. I have one b&w pic (titled 'occupying Tabriz' or somesuch) that seems to show camo & air rec markings on top of turret. Thanks strt

The major difference is on the hull front design : the first version had a "shot trap" (?) which was corrected with IS 2m (where "m" means "modified"). Cheers ! PS : I don't find my book !

laxx
totally off-topic, but from the http://www.weapon.df.ru/ web site, I finally got a glimpse of what my digital waffen SS were throwing at KVs and T-34s during the early months..... but seriously, where is the tank link in www.weapon.df.ru ? I can't read Russian...

KV-2
weapon.df.ru - that is a site of well-known Russian specialist on WW II tanks - Michail Svirin. I know him personally - he is a very experienced man in WW II history and owner of POLYGON (proving ground) magazine devoted to the different AFVs. Best Regards, KV-2
laxx
kewl... the two russian sites quoted above are great sites, too bad me in armor.kiev.ua/Tanks/ I doan read russian, and the pictures aren't into specific models (eg. at least for panzer III). not complaining or anything Very nice pictures though!
Blow2
My own researches lead me to believe that Russian tanks weren't uniformly camo'd, nor were they always painted for winter, either (mainly because of a shortage of paint especially in the early months of the war). My own personal inclination for a mod would be a straight-from-the-factory, rivets-still-hot T34, not even painted in any colour. Many of these came rolling out at Lengingrad and a threatened Moscow. MikeT
Imagine a mod with bare steel, welding marks/burns, rivets with shiny heads, etc! Now that would look cool. Mike

Thanks a bunch... makes sense, as the bottom tank's front hull [original?] appears to be nearly vertical - thus the revised, 'M', hull-slope would have provided better protection.
