Thoughts about relative spotting
Humus B. Chittenbee replied to Scipio's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
THE REAL question here is just how much "player control" can the game take away and still be FUN and playable. I would suggest most folks here can agree that if the player were to lose control (to the AI) of bailed vehicle crews that are clearly out of C&C that this would not make the game that much less fun or unplayable? -tom w </font> -

Question on "gamey" game play
Humus B. Chittenbee replied to nevermind's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Doesn't the fact that the battleground is really quite small allow for the fact that perhaps after realizing enemy is in the area, the trucks have unlimbered guns and accompanying ammo and have headed back to the last main supply point to get <e.g.> more ammo? -
just a coupla things to know about the graphical 'mods' ... 1] 'mods' do NOTHING to/for your men/vehicles/etc in re their abilities/stats/etc. simply put... 'mods' are 'eye-candy.' but WOW! some of them are absolutely beautiful. 2] since all 'mods' are in the 'bmp' graphical format [bitMaP = bmp] they go into the BMP folder of the game. *** NOTE: as the 'mod' is often made up of several files (e.g. side panels, road wheels, side of turret, etc.), and for faster d/l'ing, the files are generally Zipped and need to be uncompressed before being put into the 'BMP' folder. *** BIG NOTE*** - you will need to replace the original files with the 'mod'ed bmp files for them to take effect ... save the original bmp files somewhere you can easily find - in case you want to return to the original bmps. you could do a reinstall, but then you would lose all the bmps you had installed that you still wanted to keep. for any questions about 'Zipping' - there are many here who can help.

Question re the pictures... Even to a non-tank-grog such as myself, the top pics are of very obviously different tanks, but the bottom two appear to be of the same model (I only saw a slight difference in the front hull slope.) So I 'cheated' and looked at the titles of the two pictures. By that reckoning, they are the same tank -- yet I see a difference. So ... same tank, different year? ... same tank, beta version 1.2? Inquiring minds want to know.

WTF is cmmos?
Humus B. Chittenbee replied to Beer Rules's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Of the 13 mentioned posts, only 4 even tangentially refer to the question... so it is 'silliness as usual.' He begins with 'WTF' - which in this group is paramount to trolling. No one (new, old, or otherwise) 'deserves' anything on this board. He got an answer within 12 hours (and 5 minutes of his last query), albeit with a few extraneous comments - which ain't bad. Lastly, if YOU re-read YOUR post, I think you might find reason to 'point the finger of arrogance' at the fellow/gal looking at you out of your mirror. -
WTF is cmmos?

As a transplanted southerner, I will make one attempt to clarify what some (at least I) see as a problem with your posts. If you have spent any time reading this board, you should have seen many people giving others a hard time (about being French, Swedish, Aussie, Canadian, Texan, Californian, etc... and of course for being a feeble tactician, a lawyer, a doctor, and indian chief, etc. - ad infinitum.) All (with some few slight exceptions) are said in sport and with no ill will. The fellow/gal who gave you a hard time for being from Texas does not know you, and does not know that you don't have a New England accent (damn Yankees!) so his/her comment was obviously in jest. This board has a refreshing absence of gratuitous vulgarity and instead lends itself to the well turned non-vulgar insult. The age of the board members has been tolled several times, and the average number always falls in the late 30's, so simply cussin' at someone comes across as juvenile. That said, I know you are NOT a true southerner.... it's spelled -- y'all... (before you explode...I would add a smiley if I were not allergic to them.) -
About CMBB demo...
Humus B. Chittenbee replied to I am Evil Homer's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
be aware that as 'V' says - he played CMBO for quite a while and knew what to expect from the game. when the CMBB 'demo' came out, there were many who said they thought it was NOT a good representation of CMBB and would, perhaps, keep folks from trying the complete game. i, too, like cmbb better {even though it cheats! --- i CANNOT be as bad, tactically, as it would make me seem!!} simply put, if you like CMBO, you will like CMBB. -
Any Washington State Players?
Humus B. Chittenbee replied to LT Tel's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Portland here --- WA is just one of our many suburbs! -g- -
I am NOT a grog --- I did drink some once though. Neither am I by training an engineer. However, it seems clear (at first examination) that when there is a 'smaller' angle (30 degrees vs 45), this would, effectively, present a greater thickness of armor as well as an increased likelihood of ricochets... thus - improved protection. There might well be compounding problems though - e.g. shots being deflected into a weaker portion of the tank. If additional consequences are not modeled (taken into account), then simplisticly - the 'lower' angle is better.

CMBB IS NOT REALISTIC!!! I've been reading numerous threads about the accuracy (or 'in-') of the modeling of certain vehicles. This pales in comparison to the problems in the gameplay. Now, it is an historical fact that the Allies won in WWII. Thus it follows that the Allies won many (if not most) of the battles. However, in nearly every battle (representing the Allies) I have had my 'hat handed to me.' This is obviously not in keeping with the historic record. QED BF.C - how can you market this horribly modeled game and claim it is 'historically accurate?' NOTE: If the truth be told, I found the same weakness in CMBO. If this appalling oversight is not fixed by ... say... CM-VIII, you may well lose me as a customer! Sincerely, etc, etc...

Where are the bldg mods?
Humus B. Chittenbee replied to legend42's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Damn! Either you are flat fantastic or this new video card I just got is magical. That first shack really seems 3-D. Hope that if the former is the true cause, you apply your skills to ALL the buildings.
