Sergei
If they had never taken prisoners, the division would have had to interrogate men from neighbouring German divisions to get intelligence.

Having said that, it isn't unlikely - wounded prisoners give more valuable information than dead ones. Given the battle wasn't going LAH's way (though we can't be sure of the precise date or location), I'd suspect that the intent is to keep the men alive long enough to question them. They likely perished during their captivity as conditions for Soviet POWs were considerably harsher than the western allies.
securityguard
Yeah, just because they're treating them for wounds does not mean they treated them well afterwards. They just get dumped into camps after they have showed their worth in intelligence. The camps they were drug to were almost as bad as concentration camps.
undead reindeer cavalry
treating his wounds? are you insane?!? they are trying to strangle him! can't you see he is already blindfolded? here's another SS picture that is misleading at first. you need to realize that what is being poured into the victim's mouth is in reality poison! or perhaps acid? edit: damn you axishistory. copy & paste: http://forum.axishistory.com/files/ss_mans.jpg [ April 21, 2006, 08:51 AM: Message edited by: undead reindeer cavalry ]
Sergei
URC, the picture doesn't show... but if (on Firefox for Windows) you right click on the image, select 'Show picture' and then press refresh, then back and it shows.

I always thought Russians from did not take prisoners from LSSAH and other way around. Mr Picky says the photo does not show LSSAH. They are soldiers from "Das Reich" "Der Fuhrer's" Panzergreandier Regiment who are tending to the Russian. The photo was taken by kriegsberichter Gronert. There are several in the sequence and they are reproduced 88 - 90 in volume 2 of the Waffen SS: Kursk 1943 published by Remy Spezzano. IMHO a fascinating series of books by the way which have some stunning combat images covering II SS Panzer Corps operations duruing Kursk. Worth checking out. Mr Picky now sits down Cheers fur noo George
