86smopuim
Based *heavily* on Franko's True Combat rules for CMBO. This is just an update for CMBB. Not endorsed by Franko. Draft version. Smope's TRUE COMBAT RULES Stick to 700 points or under games, with Huge map setting. Using these rules, more than 700 points gets bewildering, and under huge map size for 700 points is too small to get a realisitc effect of fog of war. For all settings Fog Of War: Extreme Unit bases(SHIFT + : Off Detailed Armor Hits(SHIFT +d) Off Terrain Element Dsiaplay (doodads SHIfT + n): Extreme Trees Display(SHIFT + t): scarce through extreme are allowed Warning Labels(SHIFT + g): Off Hide Roofs(SHIFT + R): Off (see exception below) Unit Size(SHIFT + c): Realistic Show All Paths Targets(SHIFT + p): Off Show Covered Arcs(SHIFT +c): Selected Unit Only Allow for extra time, 1.5% of normals. ME, 40+ turn Attack, 60+ turns. Game Type/Setup Phase Rules: Assault or Attack: The both the attacker and defender may use any view level, zoom, or camera angle during the setup phase Probe: The defender may use any view level, zoom, or camera angle during the setup phase, The attacker can only use camera angles 6 or more. This represemts the CO looking at op maps for the planing of the probe.. "Line Of Site" command may not be by the attacker. ME botth player are limited to camear views 6 or greater. "Line Of Site" command may not be used by either player. After game is under way: SELECTING UNITS Only use "+" or "-" keys to move from friendly unit to friendly unit. Then, use the "tab" key. You can then only rotate in place to scan the surrounding terrain. Either mouse upper left/right corner of screen, or the "," "." keys are allowed. If there is friendly unit within the line of sight of the unit you have currently selected, you do not have to use the + and - keys. Instead, you can simply point and click on that target unit, THEN hit the tab key. You may never click on an enemy unit nations icon (hammer and sickle or cross of of iron) You may use LOS tool to to look at enemy units. always may sure selected units view it on by using the TAB key. PANNING After accessing the unit and hitting the tab key(which orients the view of the unit forward), you can only "look around" by using the pivot keys ","."." keys or the mouse in the upper left and right corners of the screen. You may use 2,8,4,6 keys to move within "a few meters" of selected units center for purposes of placing way points, targeting. or watching the movies. ( because trees/buildings are a pain, this is nesacery and realistic) You may slide(up down left right arrow) arround within a few meters of the center of the current unit to see arround corners, through walls, past your gun barrel, etc. BUILDINGS You may use SHIFT + r to remove building roofs for when units on second level of a building are selected If a unit icon (such as vehicle), blocks your view, you can use the "8" key to click ahead only such distance which is necessary to clear the sprite ELEVATED VIEWS Once turns begin (after setup), you may use only the lowest-level view ("1" on the keyboard), unless the following apply: If you are on the top floor of a church, you can use View 2 ENEMY UNITS You may not "click on" or "select" an enemy unit, nor use the "N" key to select targets. ZOOM KEYS You may not use the "zoom key" (the brackets), unless: Tanks Any tank can have no zoom or x2 zoom in 360 degees, if unbuttoned. This represents the Tank Commander/ hand held Binoculars. Any tank with a cupola may use 360 vision with no zoom, buttoned or not. Any tank with or without a cupola may have a pan 180 degrees, 0 zoom towards the front of the vehichle(vision ports) In addition, there are these optics, that can be used in the direction of turret/hull facing. No optics listed: Zoom X2 Good or Narrow: Zoom x 4 Long Range Zoom x 8 Binocular Optics: Zoom x 4 or zoom x 2(yeah, I know bincuclar means something else, but it had to have some benfit) Dual Magnification: Zoom x 8 or zoom x 4 Very Long Range Zoom x 16 Other Units Units with bincoulars can look 360 at zoom x 2 if they are not moving. (LMG, toon HQs, and the like) Units with Optic(some german guns) may use the zoom listed above for tanks WEATHER You must always have weather and fog set to "Extreme" SPECIAL SETUP RULES The following setup rules apply depending on whether you are the attacker, defender, or if the battle is a meeting engagement. OPTIONAL RULE During setup you may print out a map (by taking a screen shot and printing the .bmp file) for use during the battle. This map should be at the minimum View Level 7.

Yaba
I have done something similar to this while playing against the computer. Good fun - in fact it makes for a much different game when you are "down in the trenches" with the troops. I highly recommend playing against the computer this way with the AI attacking or assaulting and you on defence. Remember - don't cheat!
tar
So, one major change seems to be that you disallow use of the "N" key to select targets, whereas Franko's rules allow it.

Correct. The N key will cycles through enemy units where yo *personally* have noticed them or not. You have to use LOS tool to see if what you suspect are infantry really is a unit. Addendum to the above rules, changeing angle with mouse in upper left/right corbers of the screen is allowed.
Louie the Toad
In this type of fighting: The value of terrain becomes magnified. Battlefield confusion intensifies. Command control is a necessity. Difficulty grows exponentially. What Fun !! Grinning.... Toad
