Other Means
can anyone tell me a good book about the theory & practice of Soviet deep operations? if it compares and contrasts against Blitzkreig that would be ideal. also, something anecdotal from the Soviet side would be good, if there is such a thing. thanks.
5TH_HORSEMAN
Try "The Threat, Inside the Soviet Military Machine". Andrew Cockburn, 1983, New York. Good look from the bottom up at Soviet Army.
Michael Emrys
I think one of Glanz's books goes into this, but as I haven't read it yet I can't tell you the name or anything about it. Maybe Grisha will drop in to enlighten us all. Michael
Wol
Look at Glantz's Soviet operational Art and Conduct of Tactical Manouver. Also Mikhail Tuchachevskii - Deep Battle (Simpkin?). I will get the details tonight for you. See also the many article in Soviet Military History Journal or Journal SLavic/Soviet Military History.

Andreas
You can find an article on the development of the Soviet tank forces on Red Army Studies under 'Articles', and if you click on 'Soviet Index' it will take you to a database of articles from Soviet military journals that will help you with the practice, and maybe the theory as well (note to serlf: need to go through the list). Hope that helps.
Grisha
Other Means, If you are specifically asking about deep operations, I suggest you read Triandafillov's The Nature of the Operations of Modern Armies. This book was crucial to the development of Soviet operational art, being published in 1929. Another more recent book is Richard Harrison's Russian Way of War.
Other Means
thanks for all the responses. i'll probably pick up the Glantz first, although i do find his books a chore. Andreas. thanks for the site. the posts in this forum & that site are what sparked my interest in the first place. however i don't really have the time to go through all the journals etc, so i need a condensed version. cheers all.
