Grows on you

The more i look at those screen shots the more they seem to grow on you.

I like that nice crisp finish and the appropriate colours with a kinda Suitably dullish or flat look which gives it a nice ww2 feel to it.

It also looks like there is abit of depth to it other than just the counters to be moved, but not an over bearing feeling in complexity.(Ive downloaded the World in flammes Beta Demo,i never had the board game but im still trying to come to grips with it)

Grand Strat being my Favourite Kinda a game and especially having the backing of BTS it looks like something i want to go for, looking forward to the demo

Oh i have another job for Hubert Cater, when he has finished this, and that is WW2 in its entire scope now that would be something and a real challenge for the man as not many have made a succesful ww2 game encompassing the entire world,in fact i cant think of any to date

And done to the same scale that this one And done to the same scale that this one is

Titan, it does, wait until you start playing smile.gif

I have only had the briefest chance to play Strategic Command seriously this weekend (and Airborne Assult for that matter) but I can tell you that they are highly addictive games!

I am currently part way through the '39 campaign playing as the Axis. I finished off Poland pretty quickly (2-3 weeks) and then turned towards France. I also sent a reasonable detatchment of troops with armour support to take control of Norway and Sweden, mainly for their resources but Norway will also be useful when I decide to bomb the Brits smile.gif

I decided to attack through the low countries as the Germans actually did and made quick work of them, driving towards Paris. As I did the French had to withdraw from the eastern defences which also allowed me to bring troops directly across the border, attacked them as they withdrew. With the help of the Brits, the French began to slow me down and I was beginning to take considerable losses, probably because I had sent part of my forces up north, something I was now regretting. Thankfully, Italy joined the war at this point, and with their help from the south I managed to finish off any final resistance and take the capital.

It was about then that desaster struck and Russia decided to declare war on me. The bulk of my troops are on my Western border so I could be in trouble. Britain also seems to be bombing my ports and troop concentrations, so I am going to have to leave a good portion of my fighter aircraft behind protect my resources and garrison units whilst sending my ground troops east.

Hehe, and thats about where I am up to at the moment. It should give you a taste of how exciting this game can be. Unfortunately I probably wont have time to play it as much as Id like over the next few (or many) weeks! smile.gif

Not a problem at all, you can set the Soviet Union to play as neutral until you decide to declare war on them, but in random mode if you decide to leave your borders unprotected or even decide to commit all your troops to another offensive the AI will recognize this as a possible opportunity and may choose to strike!

The key will be to keep an eye of the Soviet Union's preparadeness for war, (a percentage displayed in the War Map), and balance out your game play so as to not let them think you are ripe for the picking ;)

Yes the random mode for Axis and Allied Minors does resemble the historical context and includes those that participated in the war, i.e. Canada, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Romania etc with the special addition of Spain and Turkey as *possibilities* for joining the Axis, (of course if you play your cards right ;) ). So expect to see things like Hungary and/or even Romania second guess joining the Axis if Germany decides to invade it's facist ally Spain to get at Gibraltar; or perhaps Yugoslavia having an earlier Allied coup if surrounding countries like Hungary, Romania or Bulgaria are attacked by the Axis sort of thing.

Random, historical and neutral options will play out as expected for the Axis and Allied majors like the USSR, USA, Italy etc., and while still neutral, Italy and the USSR will not be able to purchase and place units since they are not controlled, but for countries like the USSR they do collect a small percentage of their overall production capacity each turn that will be cumulatively available to them once they enter the war. Also the USSR will have a historical compliment of units available to them depending upon when they enter the war. So attack early and it may be to your advantage (but you may be left with an undesirably early 2 front war), while on the other hand the longer you wait to attack the USSR the further along in their preparations they likely will be. A third option might even be to keep them out of the war long enough that you have an overwhelming force prepared to wipe them out regardless of date and time blitzkrieg style!

Hehe, just to confirm...yes, I had all nations descisions to enter the war set to random, and yes, I stripped away all of my forces from my eastern border in an attempt to finish off the French. This was a big mistake it would seem! smile.gif

PS : And no, Im not a stripper. If you check out the picture of the battelfront team in the Airborne Assult demo you will probably decide that this is for the best ;)

More interesting to me would be playing with either defined or random (but noted at game start) special events that give rise to certain things perhaps happening earlier than historically/not occouring... Fer instance, perhaps Von Ribbentrop came home empty handed without the Treaty of Nonaggression Between Germany and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics might cause the USSR preemptively declare war on Germany....

Similar in practice as the 3R variants (but without the need to keep a coffee cup with the chits in them for the duration of the game).
