Tanks don't spot other tanks if the house between them gets blown up.

Recommended Posts

Sometimes an enemy tank decides to hide behind a house, rather than face

my JagdTiger fleet. If I'm in the "I am the god of thunder" -mood,

I just target the building and blow it out of the way.

The odd thing is, the tanks don't seem to notice the hiding

tank when the house is gone, despite having a clear view.

On the next turn, when I have the tanks target the poor soon-to-be-dead

bastard, everyone reports a hit chance of 0%. They will, however,

hit it and kill it like there's nothing to it.

Ok, there would really be some smoke and stuff obscuring the way,

but why would it all disappear ewxactly at turn end.

Hmmm.. now that I think of it, would it be a good idea for the game

to place a smoke in the rubble of recently deceaced building?

That's because the house isn't completely destroyed, it's turned into rubble. Rubble still blocks LOS although not as much as the original building.

That's just the thing, the next turn I can target the tank just fine, with perfect LOS.

And this is without any of my tanks, or the enemy tank moving at all.

hmmm, maybe we need some clarifiacation about the rubble LOS calculations from Steve or Charles.

I few times I have seen that my tanks have LOS to a target but my chance to hit is 0%. I find this odd since if you can see it you ALWAYS have a chance to hit it.

I too have had my tanks target anyway and they do get hits regardless of the initial precentage chance.

Well, it seems like a good idea to have LOS blocked for a little while since as you all mentioned, there would be a dust cloud rising up and blocking LOS. The question is, should it magically disappear at the end of the action phase, even if the building blew up 3 seconds before the end of the turn? Or should it last for a set amount of time? (perhaps 1 or 2 minutes?) I would say it should last a little while, but at this point, that may be more trouble than it is worth.

The 0% chance to hit certainly sounds like a bug though.

It does not always work so nice and pretty like that, I've tried it and have it do no good besides give my troops a nice chunk of burning wood and nails to hide in.

This thing happened just in my PBEM game with Jarmo. His Sherman was annoyingly hiding behind a heavy building that I then blew off. This happened about half-way through the turn. My Panthers didn't get a los to the Sherman that turn. They finally saw the Sherman two seconds into the next turn.

I do not find this 'odd'. Let us look at Real Lifeâ„¢:

Are these houses rubble? My answer is yes. Could you hide a tank behidn them? Again the answer is yes.

It is just the luck of the draw. Sometimes you get LOS, sometimes you don't.

I think you missed my point.

I'm not complaining my tanks can't see through rubble. In fact they can.

The LOS is quite clear when I check it with the LOS tool.

Wow....Sounds a lot like what I suggested a month ago and got railed for suggesting...but I still think it's a good idea, and I'm glad more people understand why I suggested that now!

Off topic - but - I'm more of a lurker here than a poster, as I try to learn this great game, and forum 'rules', shorthand, abbr. etc. I got most things, but, what the hell is 'bump'?? I've seen it, but can't figure it out from the context. Clues? Direct answer?

Thanks

bump=nudge=punt...

When a topic drifts off the bottom of the first page it is well nigh dead, so often times people will give what they believe is a valid/important/overlooked topic a "bump". That "bump", being a new post, sends it to the top of the forum again.

On some forums, a self-bump is considered extremely poor etiquette, but here it happens commonly enough.
