What is a Building* ?

Recommended Posts

No no no, the asterisks indicate simple disclaimers, as you would expect. Refer to the manual, and you will find the following in the small print:

* Not actual building

** Digital representation only

Well, I guess you didn't hear about the suit the Architecture Anti-Defamation League brought against BTS. The complaint was that by portraying buildings which showed no visible damage when fired upon until they exploded in Bikini Atoll-style mushroom clouds, BTS was undermining public confidence in the architecture industry.

From the testimony of Ida L. McIntyre:

quote:
Since my husband bought that awful Close Combat Mission game, I've been terrified to set foot into my own home! I mean, what if the building's about to collapse! I'd have no way of knowing! My god, the next gust of wind could destroy us all!

BTS and the AADL settled out of court. In return for dropping the suit, BTS agreed to attach disclaimers to their buildings in CM and any further iterations of the series.

Wrong answer guys,

The "*" and "**" indicate a prize located inside the building, for which your troops will gain a morale bonus if found.

The "*" symbol indicates a lower value prize, such as cigarettes, chocolate bars, or a porno mag. The "**" is of a higher value and could be a case of beer or a couple of prostitutes hiding in an upstairs closet.

The trick is to actively search for them, so regardless of enemy fire (who most likely wants to keep the prize for themselves)you must keep looking, moving your men throughout the inside. If there is an upstairs, send two squads up there as well. Remember, the greater the number of squads you can cram inside the building, the greater the chance you will find it. Good luck.

OK. I admit it. I checked. I think I'll go see if "gullible" is in the dictionary...

(N.B: I DIDN'T believe there was a lawsuit, but I DID believe someone ginned up a faux website...)

Okay, I've got a building with a big prize (**) in it, but try as I might I can't find anything. I've got a battalion of infantry, two platoons of engineers, a fleet of Humber scout cars and a Churchill VII turning the place upside down, but no luck. Maybe the heavy shelling is cramping their style, but I shall persevere!

Don't give up, keep looking. Maybe you need more men in there. Just a thought.

Just to give you an idea of how rich the reward is, I had 9 platoons of Glider troops inside a small farmhouses that showed up as "**". All you heard was glass breaking, men cursing, furniture being thrown out the windows. Finally I hear a "I found it!!!" and one guy goes running out the front door with a copy of CM2 in his hands.

Don't give up, trust me it's worth it.
