pad152
British TOE/OOB - July 43Seems odd no Brit tanks for Sicily, I didn't realize the Brit's were this Americanized (M4's, Stuart's) by this time in the war? What happened to all of the Brit tanks in Africa, did they all go to Greece?
MikeyD
Crusader stayed in North Africa, Cromwell never made it to Italy. I recall even BFC was surprised by how late in the game Churchill arrived in Italy. I think the NA tanks stayed in depot in NA. Unless stuff got sent to Palestine, but I've got no data on that.
pad152
Funny, I've have at lease four books on Operation Husky and all mention British tanks but, none every say which type, I'll always assumed that meant British made tanks, LOL
Michael Emrys
Perhaps the idea behind standardizing on US equipment was to ease logistics, which for this operation may have been tight anyway. Otherwise, it does seem a bit puzzling.Michael Edited March 13, 2016 by Michael Emrys

Pete Wenman
Well this is what was there - maybe google can assist with tank types, but I've always assumed it was the Sherman. JonS
There were Bishop SPs, and Humber recce vehicles, and what not, but AFAICT all the tanks were Shermans.
