tyrspawn
is SPAA efficiency/effect tied to where the area of effect for the CAS mission has been allocated? e.g. if I do a UAV observe mission on the corner of the map 3000 meters away from a tunguska.. is it the same threat as having it observe on top of the tunguskas?
agusto
Good question, i would like to know that too.
exsonic01
Yeah, I was also curious why my AA assets sometimes did not react to air threats.
Vanir Ausf B
I am about 99% sure it makes no difference for UAVs since the game engine does not physically place them above the area they are observing. They are located along the friendly map edge. I suspect the same is true of all air assets but don't quote me on it.
sburke
UAVs are a different animal. As Vanir noted, their theoretical location is not tied at all to what they are observing. If the target of observation has no LOF to the theoretical point, then the UAV can observe unmolested. Meanwhile another AA asset with no LOF to the area of observation target that does have LOF to UAV location can shoot it down. CAS on the other hand does have an approach vector and I have observed the point representing a CAS asset crossing a map at altitude once. LOF/LOS is tied to the CAS asset. You want your AA assets to have 360 degree LOF if possible for CAS. For UAVs, you only need LOF to the enemy map edge and possibly just a corner of it. In Poking the Bear, all UAV assets appear in the map corner where the player's ground units appear. It is actually a very good scenario for understanding the mechanics of UAV spotting and AA fire.
