Capt. Toleran
Hi -- Love the games, but the crickets are deafening on the night-time missions, just tons of treble right into my ear. I would turn it down, but then I can't hear all of the other nice noises in the game. Anyone else have this issue, and anyone in the modding community up to tackle this?
Harry Speakup
I'm working on an night time ambient sound mod at the moment. It's easy to suppress the crickets with a good helping of EQ since the sound peaks around 5KHz. You are likely to get a vixen screaming in the background or an Eagle Owl or two though, (Tawny is also native to Ukraine, so possible) just to give it some life. The problem is balancing the nature sounds to not make it too frequent and noticeable & therefore annoying since it's a short continuous loop. All these mating and territorial calls are great for Spring to Late Autumn night ambience, but not relevant for Winter when not much of any volume is to be heard. This should also go for daytime ambience too. Birdsong dwindles and changes hugely in Winter since a large number of European species migrate to Africa.
Mord
The problem is balancing the nature sounds to not make it too frequent and noticeable & therefore annoying since it's a short continuous loop. One way around that would to be to make the loop bigger. I did some mods for CMSF and made the backgrounds about five minutes long so that by the time stuff repeated it got lost in the mix. However, that was a radio chatter background so it might be different. You can give it a try though and see how it sounds. Mord. grungar
crickets bah..how about a no back ground sound mod! and while some merciful moder is making the no sound battle front can add an option to the ui for CRYING OUT LOUD. *mumbles something about persistant sounds in his favorite titles that he cant make go away*
Kieme(ITA)
Careful though, If I am not mistaken I recall reading on these forums that longer loop sounds will take more computer resources.
