Best Sound Mod

Recommended Posts

I have went through a lot of different sound mods but I've currently settled on Oddball_E8's mod. It has oompf in the ratatatata and blaka blat blat department but the most important thing is that it is easy to discern between different weapons systems.

It's also Swedish so it's trendy, chic and vogue.

Not sure what I've done wrong, but I followed Oddball's instructions for MG..

Create a folder named Z in your Combat Mission/Data folder.

Extract my mod into that folder.

There seems to be NO music intro (or any music) for CMBN, nor in CMFI when I copy the CMFI Music folder into Z in that program?

Thanks

Regards,

Doug

Hmm, that is indeed wierd.

It really shouldn't matter what you name the folders, but try renaming it from CMBN/CMFI Music to just Music and putting it under the /Sounds folder?

It should just work straight off the bat tho.

As long as you are not using any other soundmods that is.

Hhmm, I'm not sure since I'm not using those music clips, only the sound effects in the mod.

I think for it to work it should look like: YourCMBNFolder/Data/Z/Sounds/Music/

My guess is that you need to have the music folder you want in Z/Sounds and named only as "Music" without the CMBN or CMFI after.

EDIT: I tried installing like I guessed it should go and it's working...Well, atleast the bagpipes in the menu are working, aaarrggraahhgg aaaaaarrrrr that drone in the background is like a drill only it's a hammer and it's both drilling and hammering at the same time asdfasfsfdafdsf

You need to have a "Sounds" folder in your "Z" folder that contains the mod files...Also the "Music CMBN" folder should be renamed to just "Music"

EDIT: I've been using 2.0 of this mod and I notice a lot of sounds have changed in 3.0! I need to adjust to this changed soundscape!

Alrighty, if you delete the music folder you will get the vanilla music clips playing again...My farfetched theory is that since you're apparently on a Mac, the music clips might be in some format that the Mac version of CMBN doesn't support...

Yup, on a MAC... is there a better computer? :P

It does play WAV files, so I'm not sure that's it, but it's a minor issue anyway ...

Thanks for your help... appreciate it... :)

Doug

I recommed waclaw sound mod, you can find in cmmods as High Quality sound mod v1.3

Sample;

have a nice gaming

I can also definitely recommend High Quality Sound 1.3 - FINAL, and it's patch. Located here:

http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/4955/details

I've used a lot of his sounds as the basis for my own sound mod. Also you can pick and choose some from:

SFX 1.2.5 ultimate + German speak files(beta)

http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/4795/details

and JorgeMC's:

http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/4907/details

http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/4876/details

I've used a few from all of these plus a lot of my own edits and SFX to make my own set. With a little work you can get a really good sounding SFX set for your game. :)

Oh and you could check in akame SPR sound mod V2 and Mikes Vehicles of War Sound Mod as well and see if you hear anything you like.

If you are on a Mac that might be the problem.

I don't know jack about mac, but apparantly there are some differences when it comes to soundmods since waclaw has a version of his mod specifically for macs.

@AstroCat: You, Me and Waclaw use alot of the same source material. It's just a matter of preference.

Jorge MC and Akame's mods are vastly different from ours tho (I don't think they have a single file that is from the same sources as ours).

I have included Mikes Vehicles of War Sound Mod in my mod (with permission).

@Zebulon: Yeah, I switched around almost all of the sounds and replaced quite a few with completely new ones. Took me about an hour or two of gaming to get used to the new set :)

Some of the changes were because of new types of weapons introduced (fx the 37mm/40mm AA guns sounded wrong using the 37mm sound with reload sounds that I had for CMBN vanilla) but mostly it was just a finetuning of the sounds.

The mod also includes optional sounds without bolt action and without the sound of brass hitting the ground.

As always I recommend using the soldier movement sounds from HQS 1.3 and the penetration sounds from SFX 1.2.5.

It's all in my readme file. (I would love to include those sounds in the mod, but it's easy enough to add them on your own thus bypassing having to ask permission to use them from the authors of those mods hehe)

If anyone knows *cough*Waclaw*cough* exactly what the difference in a soundmod from a mac and a pc is, please explain that to me.

I know alot of our fellow players are Mac users, so I would like to provide them with an optimised version of my mod.

version for mac, changed the sample rate to 48khz ;)

Is this the 1.3 version and does it include the High Quality Sound patch 1.0 that you did for the PC platforms?

Doug

Edit: Can't expand it.. getting "The structure of the archive is damaged (Error #17540)" ... :(
