Quick Battles vs AI

Recommended Posts

QB AI is far better than in CM1; i mean yes the AI is scripted but to script it is really easy and you can make up to 5 different plans. When the game starts the AI will choose one of those 5 plans so one battle can result in 5 different battle approaches.

Usually, i am talking about CMSF here, QB have 3 plans for the AI but you might make some other AI plan in the editor to sum them up to 5 as i said above.

By the AI plan now the AI is really interesting even on the offense

I disagree about it being better than in CMx1. Sure, that system wasn't perfect either, but at least the AI recognized that objectives had changed hands. In the current system the AI on the attack just blindly charges ahead, either into your kill zone or to some unimportant part of the map, where they will patiently wait for you to get around to killing them. This is especially bad when the force mix doesn't match the axis of attack (infantry across open fields, tanks into the middle of town).

The x2 TacAI is definately better.

The x2 StratAI isn't as reactive as x1, but it can be made to do things the CMx1 StratAI would never in a million years have come up with.

I'm strictly talking about the StratAI in QBs, particularly on the offensive. Of course, the AI overall is a huge step up from CMx1.

That's not really the AI, that's the "force picking algorithms" if they warrant such a grandiose title. They are widely recognised as being problemmatic.

And have been since day one.

At the risk of being labelled a CM1 fogey; this aspect was handled much better, especially in the smaller sized battles.

The QB vs. AI strength is that it is very helpful to work on basic tactics without "wasting" a precious scenario. If attacking the AI (which is preferred for obvious reasons), never give yourself extra points. The AI needs all the help it can get: give it a lot of points.

So, yes, there is a good use for playing QB's vs. the AI.

Plus, after you get your butt handed to you in a pbem, it always feels good to beat the AI. :)
