Conversion of Uniforms and any other 2.0 changes to modding

With the 2.0 updates, I realized there was finally potential for me to go do a lot of the things I had wanted to do. Oddly, the coolest part to me was the uniform selection.

Now I know a lot of people have noticed that this created an issue with Uniform Mods. I have tried to fix it myself, but I'm drawing a few blanks on what converted to what... and where to put things.

The first one I'm trying to perfect is the American Airborne. From my understanding, they have 3 uniforms now. Normal, 82nd, 101st. If I have this right, they are:

smod_american_m41_uniform

smod_american_m41_uniform [82nd]

smod_american_m41_uniform [101st]

They also share:

smod_american_boots-para

smod_american_helmet-para

What I don't know for sure are the bags, gear, and anything else I'm missing. Are they changed? Do they stay the same from older version?

Also, can anyone help me in understanding the rest of the uniforms. If I can get help I would love to set up a compilation of all the current uniform mods... I'll even try my hand at a GUI installation so you can run the program, preview the uniforms, and pick what you want it to install. I'll do all the hard work, I just needed to know how to convert all the uniforms already out there.

The easiest way is to unpack the data files and then check the new naming conventions for yourself - a halfway exhaustive list would be far too long to post here.

As far as I can tell right now, everything has been renamed and uniforms for the different ranks (NCOs, junior officers, senior officers etc.) have been added as well. I THINK the gear ahsn't been renamed, but will have to check that myself.

Not a big issue, but a little bit too bad. I've noticed from my limited research that metal Luft-Feld kit (like gas mask cannisters) is sometimes painted (relatively bright) green. And their leather ammo pouches and whatnot seem to be brown more frequently than the black leather typical of Heer equipment. The difference is far from absolute, though.

Sorry I've been gone, was gone visiting family and leaving technology behind. Thank you for this post, but telling me everything had been renamed and is split up and it's by rank.... yes all good, but how does this relate to the drop down selection when choosing uniforms? What files are universal? What old universal file is now renamed and and changes when you select different uniforms? What files does each uniform select from? Are all German senior officers pulled from the same file, or when you select full camo, does it select a different hat, but keep everything else from the universal files? Could they have made the file structure a little easier to understand for me? Apparently not.

I did unpak the data file, but because I lack previous knowledge of the OLD naming convention and none of the nw, I'm confused as to what links to what. Let alone they couldn't have named it This_is_Obviously_Mixed_German_Uniform_Hat.jpg ... So I stare at and old uniform mod images of a boot.... then stare at the new ones... and play the guess and check game. Obviously, I'm getting nowhere fast, specially since a lot of boots are very similar.

Also, I apologize on requesting an exhaustive list, but what I'm saying is that if someone (or someones) does the hard work of getting me this list, I can do the hard work of converting every uniform I find and creating a program that let's you see and change uniforms on the fly. I'll try and do both myself, but that is what is slowing me down a LOT... I only recently bought the game. I know little of it's old or new file structure. That's why I asked for help. Perhaps I should post this request in the main forums to get more help? I just though the people who are making the uniforms would be here... Let me sum up the process and maybe you can see why I want help.

First I need to figure out the current file structure and how it relates to selected uniforms (default, Camo, Mixed, Ect.) ... then I have to figure out how it relates to the older structure (What ways can I rename German_Shovel_1 so that only certain uniforms use it or make it universal?)... then I have to convert all the old uniforms I find, breaking them into pieces for the program ( Now I have 20 Converted_German_Shovel_1 for you to choose from!).... then create the program that let's you choose what you want... (Which German Shovel do you want for Mixed, and how many? Just select them, and hit install!)

So, again, any help appreciated!

I can only speak to the CW troops but from what I've seen, there are representative shoulder ranks for Sr & Jr officers.

As to the helmets, I don't think they are specific to the ranks.

Steve responded to a question I had when the upgrade first came out regarding the specific formation choices. The gist of it was that only the formations presently listed are available for now, as these are not mod-able at the end-user level (it would require significant coding to add more formations right now).

Hopefully at a later date we can specify the uniform for the formation..thus giving the correct regiment patches to the soldiers..

I don't believe it will ever be as granular as to allow regiment choices...it would make the system very cumbersome and add a ridiculous amount of extra BMPs to the game files.

It would be great if it ever came to pass that maybe each Division could have a representative unit but again, if you factor in the US, CW and Germans, then the number of divisions in the list could again become cumbersome (not sure off hand, but that's probably more than 100 divisions).
