Pz IV vs Sherman

Recommended Posts

One of my favorite dogfights of all time. Voss was the MAN.

Yeah he was insanely skilled but also in the end stupid to choose that fight. He had two clear opportunities to extend, exit the fight, and call it a day, but instead turned back in. Yes he put lots of bullets into 6 RFC aces and dazzled them with his stick and rudder skills, but he ended up dead. Bottom line is he was very young and overconfident with what would be immediately recognized today as severe combat fatigue, a really deadly combo.

But you can assume from my online handle that I have enormous respect for him as well and what he accomplished in such a short time.

Fire Brigade has lots of tank on tank action at 1800m + huge map on open terrain.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had bypassed playing that one because of the size. But actually even the size of the map. It is not that bad.

I started playing it today, just RT vs the AI. but it sure does remind you of the Russian front battles that some of us are still waiting for that is still a while off in the new engine.

I really have not played the new engine in this type of battle much and I am finding it interesting as to play.

First decisions I had, do I let my units open up and waste alot of ammo to get them few long range hits or hide and wait until they are in good killing range, plus seeing the long range hits not producing kills is also cool.

But I have let the stugs & Panthers do the long range engagements. So the Pz ivs are doing the dirty work in town, so no chance to see them, as to how they would hold up in the long range battle.

Cool :) I've used the PzIVs for long range shooting in this. Still accurate but they are not as happy when they get hits in return. The Panthers and Stugs seem to be good at both getting long range hits and shrugging off any return fire (up to a point - I did find these becoming damaged if you leave em still for too long so stuff get's the range). Ammo does become an issue in this for both sides - assuming you keep your armour alive for long enough! Let me know how you get on. be keen to hear.

Cheery!

George

ps there is a thread on Fire Brigade in the scenario section of CMBN if you would not mind posting any comments there please? Ta! :)

Rise of Flight is the best.

Rise of Flight has the best graphics and flight models. However, I have a great deal of fondness for Over Flanders Fields because it does a tremendous job of having the entire war going on around you and down below, and you can fly with about any squadron at any time period and they're where they should be flying missions that make sense and what you see going on around you is accurate for the time/location.

Over flanders field I am pretty sure is just Red Baron upgraded to the latest standards as I recall.

It has nothing to do with RB. It's a complete game coded on top of the CFS3 engine and the entire western front war is occurring while you're in the air with all of the squadrons present at the time you're choosing to fly exactly where they were in real life, flying the missions they would have been flying, with the whole ground war going on as well.

I sure am glad you pointed me to this battle. I am now playing it as the American in a HtoH match.

What a great map, and a real challenge as the American vs, all them panthers. But the American can have some great fun also on this map.

But the more I play it, the more I just love the map itself, it is well designed and has a very natural feel to it. Good job to the designer.
