Which Version To Buy?

Recommended Posts

Don't watch much tv, do you? Macs turn up in shows at roughly the same frequency as all other brands combined. Hollywood loves Mac.

Michael

You mean Apple pays Hollywood to like the MAC? In show advertising dollars are a nice deal. Used to be all you ever saw were AT&T/Lucent/Avaya phones till Cisco caught on. That was all you saw for a while on 24/CSI etc. You'll now see Avaya starting back again. yes as a phone geek I actually notice the phone types.....

I used to love watching shows where they would show the White House and phones from wherever they picked em up. The US gov't used to be exclusively AT&T. They had a guy who traveled with the President and George Washington University Hospital had a dedicated portion of the cable frame to connect the System 75 that they traveled with..yeah I am dating myself there, but I doubt many of you will know by how much...until you google it.

Thanks again for all the responses. My new laptop arrived yesterday and it now appears I may not have to have a dual boot system to use some key software (it seems to run well under a Citrix plug-in). This will likely save me a few bucks on Windows and an external CD/DVD drive. :D

I downloaded the Mac demo, but haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. I expect it'll work okay, so my question then becomes:

Should buy directly from BFC or via the Mac App Store? I suspect the former, but all thoughts welcome.

Cheers

I suggest you buy directly from BF. Main reasons being: modules and new releases take a while to filter through to the app store, Apple also sometimes are stubborn and will cause new releases to be delayed weeks. Developers such as BF are at the mercy of the Apple App Store beaurocracy.

Patches also will always be available from BF before they appear in the app store.

I run CMBN/CF on a MBP with no problems so far.

Unlike PC games, where we live Wild & Free. Sure, we might have some technical issues, because the stuff we try to run isn't approved and tested by Big Brother, but we man up and solve it like the guy in the Viagra commercial who pours some bottled water into his classic sports car's radiator when it overheats out in the desert. We solve it and we play our games, and we don't expect pappa Jobs (RIP) to come dumb down everything and make it "easy" for us, because having everything be EASY is the New American Way. No child left behind, don't ya know? Easy Peasy, yesssir! Can't hack it? No problem. The government, and Apple, with make everything better. Just a little pinprick, there'll be no more, but you may feel a little sick......

I am delighted to have Apple make things easy for me. Some folks like to have their heads under the hood, messing around with the machinery. Obviously you are one, and I don't see anything wrong with that. Whatever floats your boat. But speaking for myself, I've got a whole bunch of other things to do with my time and I emphatically do not like spending a big chunk of it trying to figure out why my computer just stopped working, thankyouverymuch.

I have never had a computer "just stop working". Every computer I have ever built has gone obsolete and/or reached the end of it's upgrade path prior to hardware failure. This myth about Macs being bulletproof is just that. Hardware is hardware, be it solid state, or mechanical. It will all fail at some point.

The software is another matter. You are either willing to put up some some uncertainty to have a larger library of software available, or you are not. If not, go Apple.
