WynnterGreen
Hey there.... I'm quite new to this, but I've already thought several times, in game, that it would be really useful to have a toggle on, toggle off, for contour lines. Topo'map style. Then I noticed in the manual that in the map editor you create elevation by simply drawing contour lines. It doesn't, at least on the face of it, seem like it would be difficult to translate a feature that exists in the editor into something quite useful during play? Unless it's actually there and I've missed it?
Boche
IMO, I dont see how useful seeing the actual contour lines when you can actually see the physicial elevation. for example contour lines are supposed to represent a height. many may represent a valley or a hill. Dont really need them when you can actually see there is a valley of a hill there
WynnterGreen
That just hasn't always been my experience. There are subtleties of light and shadow, etc.... that happen in a real world environment that give a whole slew of extra clues when physically evaluating slope and elevation that aren't modeled, or aren't modeled well in game. As I said, and maybe it's just me, I've already thought several times that it would be useful. And, not only do 3 dimensional contour graphs exist, they're also extremely useful.
poesel
I would apreciate contour lines very much. Its sometimes very hard to see terrain features when its covered by uniform coloured grass. Sometimes you really need to fly at low level above the ground to notice depressions.
LJFHutch
Contours could certainly be interesting, you couldn't really translate the points plotted to create the map though, at least not my maps, you'd end up with more of a contour "bowl of noodles" But drawing a line for 10m, 20m, 30m, 40m etc would be possible wouldn't it?
Wodin
Thats where gridded terrain comes in handy. I never understood the point to it, so tried it, and then I saw what the point was! So I now use Aris gridded terrain mod. Helps loads.
WynnterGreen
Thats where gridded terrain comes in handy. And, in your mind, it's effective in the same way contouring would be? Can it be toggled on/off? I should just look it up and try it I suppose.
Wodin
Can't be turned on or off, but it is nice a faded. It does help alot! I was surprised. A great help anyway. Like I said i just tried it out of curiosity as I like Aris vehicle mods. Thats when I saw why people want gridded terrain.
noxnoctum
Hmmm I'm gonna have to try that out. It would definitely be able to be nice to see what the general hilliness was of an area without having to get to ground level every time.
Michael Emrys
Contour lines have been requested many times, going all the way back to CMx1. I'm not sure what the problem would be to program them, but apparently BFC doesn't feel they are worth the trouble. Michael
Steiner14
And, in your mind, it's effective in the same way contouring would be? Gridded terrain works perfectly and for me is a must have for effective combat. A switchable grid overlay would be very nice.
