  1. Just be fair which other game let you go to the world map and let you recreate a map in 3D. Do research and let you experience history?
  2. Nope all a modder does I understand is have a similar unit and makes it look like something else. A unit in CM is researched and made from scratch. I am a critical of some units with the goal to make decisions which would work in real life. The game as it is not pretty for some but it will do. If someone wants to play Rambo with cinematic quality it is not for them. Entertaining sure but not based on reality.
  3. Thanks for keeping it polite. I think an Elite sniper wouldn't miss because he just wouldn't take the shot. I kept it simple by comparing a 50 meter bullseye shooter with a rapid fire shooter. The rapid fire shooter gets 5 shots at a 5 turning targets and must shoot. It works in the game as the TacAI automatically engage a rifleman on a full contact like a pop up target. Typically a sniper in the game also automatically engages and we have far more misses. I don't have much of an issue with that apart from when the algorithm calculates a miss ideally it won't let the marksman shoot. I have not tested a WW2 sniper vs a SF2 sniper but TBH I don't notice much of a difference. Regards
  4. I 've seen Caterpillar mechanics at work. It takes a few hours to do some basic maintenance in a fully equipped workshop. It is a little like buddy aid, TBH I think need a little more attention. I would welcome a medic (which is a part of a company)and upon evacuation it would restore the morale of the unit.
  5. The AI and TacAI fire automatically on full contact it comes down to spotting. The spotter in real life has the more experience. The shooter looking through his scope is legally blind. I don't ask for much just in the case of snipers not letting him shoot. it happens at the range. Competitor A shoots free pistol Competitor B rapid fire. Competitor A has 2 hours to fire 60 shots in rapid fire a sequence is 5 shots in 4 seconds at 25 meters. The free pistol shooter shoots at an UIT target at 50 meters. He is after the 10 ring he has the same know how as me. The only difference is he knows when to put his gun down. Since every shooter starts at a range this is my reference point. It comes down to temperament and how one copes with stress.
  6. Even then 6 shots at less than 400 meters Game SF2 Halt Hammerzeit. RPG in a foxhole. Conclusion an Elite or Crack doesn't shoot more accurately with top notch equipment than a WW2 rifleman with just a scoped rifle. Elite and Crack may spot better but they don't shoot better. I maybe wrong but it is my experience with the game.
  7. Role taking out HQ, Radio Operators, Anti Tank Specialists to name a view. Against an advancing enemy is the opportunity his activity is masked by battlefield noise. He or she should be an absolute pain in the *ss.
  8. Going by my previous post that engineers get their tools like the means to blow up a bridge. The manuals to have a new manual or a manual to do AI editing in more detail. I am one of those persons who likes to read. To write a book is something otherwise excellent players or editors may lack. Skills particularly marksmen. They don't miss a skillful shooter knows when not to take a shot. The algorithm could be looked into. Regular squad is missing the marksman in his squad would still miss but the algorithm wouldn't let him shoot.
  9. Don't agree with that. If you keep silly things people stop playing. I think SF2 is still basically a WW2 game. The difference on Elite units western nation spent millions for the training of an elite soldier. In WW2 you basically at least on the Eastern Front you had cannon fodder and the game is more realistic. I picked the Sniper as an example he is doing things even a club shooter wouldn't do. That is firing if you can't call your shot. Something which could be modified. I sorted out the issue of finding a position in a building with a balcony on this forum.
  10. Well I look into it and looks like it is already a cutdown version of the 30.06 which they loaded to roughly the same specification. You could have had a 100 grain pill going at 3000ft/sec. Which I think would have been nice in the SLR, we never know why not.
  11. Never had one. 7.62 NATO started as the .308 Winchester and the 5.56mm started as the .223 Remington if I am correct. Really comparing apples and oranges. Never met a veteran who didn't like the FAL which we call the SLR. The difference FAL pardon me French, it is not perfect. Means Fusil Automatique Legere or light automatic rifle. It could fire fully automatic as well as semi auto if I understand it correctly. The SLR was semi auto only but could be modified in the field. What they didn't like about the M16, unreliable was the verdict. No doubt if you get hit by one you don't complain it is not powerful enough. But they say the same about the 9mm which was the round of the F1 submachine gun. Submachinegun 9mm are +P. They preferred that above the M16. Clock forward the M4 I understand is highly regarded. I just referred to veterans who held the SLR in high regard. As a handloader I can't see why you can't manufacture a round little less powerful to permit easier control on fully automatic if it is an issue.
  12. I agree it is probable but we have no data. It is a round for sub 500 meters and knocks out most armor. After 750 meters you are better off using standard AP.
  13. What you see is not what you get, I get at the stage that battling the AI becomes a bore. Here an ATGM on top of a roof in full view of an obvious hide he is not the only one in that game. It is more suited for H&H I think.
  14. Correct the only thing we can go by are the Arab Israeli wars which I am looking into. The Israelis won every battle but it was not completely one sided. SU100 and T34/85 vs Centurions with the 105mm NATO gun and Super Shermans with the 105mm French gun. Loss ratio was 2:1. I found this reference that Some Post WW2 models had HVAP which is a different name for APCR shells? Final say on the matter, by the Korean war it was outdated already.
  15. I did as well if we take the post war US as an example they improved their munitions and it is likely the Russians did it too.
  16. With all respect not sucking it out of my thumb, but how do we know what the Soviets did post war. That tank stayed in service for a long time.
  17. In my view this is a bug or a failure to test it properly. I don't know how they test it but I think it is a tree on a single heavy forest tile which is deceiving. But I feel a sniper should have a different code compared with other units. A miss should not be shot, a marksman knows if a shot is too risky.
  18. Sorry for getting off topic again in my previous posts.
  19. Speculation but the gun had definitely the potential I quote the penetration of the related 85mm anti tank gun shooting APCBC shell. That could penetrate 195mm at a km. The postwar T34/85 would not have been far off and their performance would have been classified. Battle of Abu-Ageila (1967) the Egyptian had T34/85 and SU100 fighting more modern Centurions with the 105mm and Super Shermans and were outnumbered. The Israelis still lost 19 tanks vs 40 Egyptian AFV. I am interested how the T34/85 performed in that battle.
  20. You need to add probably improved munitions for the T34/85. I am not an expert but a 1948-1956 T34/85 would have probably been on par with the British 20 pounder or the US 90mm. Somebody could make a skin for the IS-2 to make it look like an IS-3.
  21. Or when they give their positions away. The TacAI let them shoot and at the ranges you suggest I have recorded misses up to 6 - 7 times before they hit. I suggest a different model for them. An Elite Marksman doesn't miss he wouldn't shoot if he can't call his shot. I think it would require a minor adjustment of the engine. Instead of shooting and missing the TacAI wouldn't let him shoot if it calculates a miss. I can understand if he has spotted an asset in a foxhole and it takes 3 or 4 minutes before he takes it out. He needs a hide again maybe 5 minutes to set himself up. Probably something for the next engine, I don't see any improvement in modern warfare compared to WW2. Reason I prefer the WW2 games.
  22. If there is a future expansion. I was hoping for early Cold War. "Operation Unthinkable" the liberation of Poland the Chech Republics. After all WW 2 was started because of the integrity of Poland. Force a corridor to Berlin 1948, the Hungarian uprising 1956, the Prague spring of 1967. The list goes on and on. Suez crisis, Cubans in Southern Africa the sky is the limit and it is all historical. But we all have an editor and can help ourselves.
  23. I use them in conjunction with let's say a scimitar or other mobile recon unit. They let you know or there are mobile units at a KT. In other words to aid recon.
  24. Maybe but the SLR in 7.62 was not and that is according the veterans not me.
