  1. LukeFF ... You talking about my feelings... that's touching. Thank you.
  2. "or maybe in... 10 years?" Yes, you are right.
  3. True, but if I fire 20 rounds with a 42 I am going to hit less people than with a BAR. I am a bit confuse with your definition of "troll" -and of "admitting" for that matter, are you going to correct the units of fire? Asking this question is... what exactly? So... if you go flipping burgers the community can keep changing the code and adding material, is that how Capitalism works? Yes, you have your arguments, hopefully it doesn't mean they are irrefutable. The point is: It is not going to change. Hey! maybe I bought a book of quotations -and I can read, they still sell them, right? Better to give than to receive, just like Christmas. Bruce Bairnsfather, WWI.
  4. It would have been a lot easier just to say: "The policy is not going to change because I don't want to be on the dole". So, I will not get the correct/historical number of rounds or maybe in... 10 years? Probably not the most important thing but there are plenty of opinions... for me it would be that of shooting at people and them not taking cover... again, opinions. Good to know. About the LMG... not quite sure how many people would describe the BAR as more effective. The US Army tried to copy the MG 42, so not even them. In a Napoleonic game, somebody's mod was to turn generals into immortal superheroes. I would not like to play that but some improvement to the 42, some reduction to the BAR, I would like to be able to do that. It is not going to happen, not happy to know it. Indeed, among career officers nationalism of any sort was considered bad form at best, traitorous at worst. KUK.
  5. About the LMG... I was talking about "effective", kills per round. Steve... - you mention "correcting nothing"... - but not "Yes, you have altered more than a few things in 22 years..." yes, you are done. You are not going to change the policy. Yes, we are done here. Only movement brings victory. E. von Manstein (probably).
  6. The Forum is full of information and you take no action, just 2 examples: - somebody uploaded the Unit of Fire for German and Russian artillery; your numbers came out of a hat but we cannot change them. - there is a link to the Ammo Load of squads -and how is loaded; what do you need, a warrant? We are talking about TO&E, about documents. You sell a new game but you correct nothing, hopefully you understand the frustration and that that "maybe" is not helping. Yes, you have altered more than a few things in 22 years and not always for the better; this is an opinion, documents are not. UGCW is not easy to mod but somebody got the code and it has been done. RTW is easy to mod, one of them is RTR, Rome Total Realism. Games crash, we know that, modders know that. A lorry behaving like a combat unit is empirically wrong? -and I never mentioned modifying the AI, something you can do in some games. Is there a variable for when a MG is reloading, is it random? In my own, private, very humble, personal opinion we can improve the game. Your policy is: No. If we don't complain are you going to modify anything at all? What was possible, difficult or impossible; the last, he left to the enemy. Baron de Comeau about N.
  7. CM is a game. You can mod CMP, at least in part. "Why would you have any expectations that you would be allowed to monkey with the game code?" Sorry, I thought it was clear: to improve the game. Is it so incomprehensible to want the LMG42 using a box instead of a drum? Tracers work both ways. Military maxim.
  8. Again. Mortar fire on my front right, some rounds behind me. Casualties: 4; 3 cpl and 1 gunner. (Veteran and hiding, some people think the important thing is the lice in the elephant). From various threads, things like badge of honour, something about mouth and money, wish list, professional... I am not going to do hundreds of test -some people have been doing that and CM has to be certainly proud after proving that the BAR is more effective than a LMG-42, which only uses 50 rounds drums- if only because there is a better way: Show me the code! When -rhetorical question- are we going to be able to mod that code? The NSA is using the same code, that's why you cannot share it? Is it a badge of honour that we will never be able to modify... that? You say... -because you proudly announced that you have fixed that of people running away towards those firing at them... and you haven't- you say that you calculate every single bullet, what's the point of one rifle bullet at some target 400m away when you keep the LMG behind so it cannot fire?, what's the point of that bullet when you have to roll a new die to see the tank you were looking at seconds ago? Combat Mission Professional... Professional? Really? It is not the bullet with your name written on it but the one with a "to whom it may concern" you should worry about. Military maxim.
  9. "Trees are not decent cover." In Narnia?
  10. "...bigger issues" I do agree with you. "...low priority" I do agree with you. "...I don't understand" I do agree with you. "...pretty much every game" Well... "...New" I do disagree. The point is correcting, not adding. Something already in the game and not correctly modelled. I remember some post from FI about MGs being utter rubbish... Corrected, even if I may disagree about the "ridiculously low" ROF or about a Target Briefly and Target Low button but not a Target Intense... Or why Target -in a tank- means fire as fast as you can -unlike a MG- but Low means don't fire the gun at all. Or... well, you know... things already in the game. Regards. Only movement brings victory. Military maxim.
  11. I may be wrong but you are saying that other games are worse not that this one is accurate, right? I played Operation Star, I don't play it anymore, it was more accurate? I don't know, do you? " By "right", do you mean "an accurate simulation", then no, obviously it's not. " Would you like to explain that to womble? " Or, shorter: "There are limitations on what can be coded. We live with them." Did anyone express "happiness" about the situation? " This being the second engine, after 8 games and a few patches... I expect some adjustments to those "limitations". " CM does it all baby! " It sounds to me a bit like "happiness". Maybe my point was more about complacency, maybe we could stop clapping each other's back and point out some inaccuracies hoping for some action to be taken, I still play and enjoy CM, satisfaction doesn't has to be uncritical. How can you shoot women & children? You just lead a little less. Nam -Full Metal Jacket.
  12. So... in short: This is an inaccurate simulation, the coders are a bit lazy and we are all very happy with "magic" taking over. Glad to know, pity I couldn't see that in BFC web.
  13. If only somebody could talk to the AI about that 5 seconds pause... …owing to the heavy fire in front and an excess of enthusiasm in the rear. Fredericksburg.
  14. - If you are in panic, are you planning the best posible cover for the next 10' ? - Exactly. Hopefully it doesn't mean run towards the guy firing at you either. I uploaded The Factory v2 and now I am testing v2.11, with snow. General Staff officers have no name. H. von Seeckt
  15. In no particular order... "If it is too hot you get the hell out of there". I do agree, I would like to see that more often. I thought the point is where you go. Let's make scenarios with no lorries. Actually let's make scenarios with no explosions, so the AI behaves. If you are on the first floor and under fire, are you not going to be under fire on the ground floor of the same building? Move away from that fire, like the other wall and hide: great idea. Yes, if you don't shoot at them they don't shoot back. That would be another interesting scenario. If you are under fire in a building... you leave the building, run in front of the building, get closer to the enemy and them take cover? Maybe you could do that too running away from the enemy firing at you. If you are in panic, are you planning the best posible cover for the next 10' ? I wouldn't expect that. Yes, in another post I mentioned something about a switch position. Let's make "tenable-positions-only" scenarios, in case of a doubt give them a Tiger company. Maybe an artillery round is going to explode in front of the door... So if I am in Caen I am going to run towards the beach because I know there are Germans -a lot- there. Do I know? Yes friendly edge is a problem in itself. Right now, how "friendly" it is?, how do I know? Away from that enemy sounds better. To the closest cover away from that enemy? It is not good, it is better than before. English is not my first language but this concept of "fixed" is alien to me. Infantry will very rarely rout towards the enemy -but they will. -Still working on that. If the infantry in the upper floors run to the ground floor please stop shooting at them. -Until we find something else. Maybe the whole point is that we will always find an explanation for whatever it is instead of "there's work to be done". I would use a quote from The Wolf -Pulp Fiction- but I cannot post it.
  16. Guess you´re referring to German 2nd squad/A team of 1st Platoon. - and the other one too, x55 That poor guys retreat out the front door (and towards multiple enemies) indeed. I´ve no explanations in the offer. I just can tell... - yes my dog ate my homework too So that 2nd squad/A team´s behaviour seems a rare exception (FUBAR), - sorry, I thought you had no explanation but rather born from bad setup and combat tactics. - wait, the AI changes its behaviour when it gets angry. - "What I have noticed is that it depends on how far the enemy is and that, maybe, it's only going to happen if they are out of command." ...and I am sure you have noticed how carefully the AI is always deploying every single squad in command. Let's say it's still happening, I'm fine with that. Any thoughts on when are we -AI included- going to deploy on higher floors without troops running downstairs? We are going to carry the war to Africa, but I fear we will not be as successful as Scipio was. Cleburne about Hood.

  18. Two saved turns in one of the runs where it is happening. I haven't been using dropbox for some time... https://www.dropbox.com/s/j7zahu0gm58v40i/Factory X 55.bts?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/j7zahu0gm58v40i/Factory X 55.bts?dl=0 There was a door, by chance, in the back, something important for some people. What I have noticed is that it depends on how far the enemy is and that, maybe, it's only going to happen if they are out of command. By the way, did you mention anything about moving to the ground floor?
  19. Not really. It was not happening in the open and it is not happening in the open. v2.11 is not a generic term. An old post not of mine was about troops leaving buildings -cover, then we got the first patch and it was better -not as bad as before, now we got another patch and we go back to the beginning, not what I would call an improvement. * FIXED: Soldiers on upper building floors would inappropriately react to suppression from enemy fire. Not really. * FIXED: Infantry under fire seek cover in the direction of the fire (further adjustments from last patch). Not yet. "Some stray bullets" is generic, but hopefully you get the idea. "Even sooner" is generic... whatever the troops, whatever the building, now is happening faster. And yes, thank you, I do expect Fanatics to hold longer than Green, under the same circumstances. Same being the point. I did no mention troops, fire o building type... because it was the same, the reaction is different, faster, actually. We have beautiful, tall buildings, but don't use them. Well, defending a town could be a bit... esoteric. Amateurs talk about strategy, while professionals talk about logistics. Military maxim.
  20. The war became like the weather, something over which one had no control but which could make one reasonably happy or utterly miserable at will. N. Gladden.
  21. Still, there is a glitch somewhere.
