  1. RE Exit zones, I think they could be used to simply allow your troops to exit a map, you just need to avoid adding VP points to their use. I would have 150 points available to each player for each scenario played as part of the campaign - 100 points for the capture of certain terrain objectives (both players would have the same objectives), and an additional 25 points available for inflicting over 60% casualties on an opponent, and 25 points for keeping your own casualties below 30%. Ithikial that looks like a cool bit of kit you're working on. I think Combat Mission Recorder differs in that it records the casualties suffered and inflicted by individual units, which would be just what I need. Unfortunately someone mentioned on TheFewGoodMen that it won't work with anything later than Windows XP, which would rule my PC out The alternative for me would be to work out the average casualty rate and just deduct that percentage off the overall troop count in the scenario editor (eg lower the headcount by 40% if 80 men out of 200 were killed or wounded during a battle). If certain units were completely wiped out then they would just be cut from the roster.
  2. Hi Chaps, Over on TheFewGoodMen, a member called Rico has started a grand campaign (http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/threads/the-rico-shorker-war.18952/), which has inspired me to look into developing my own multiplayer campaign. The basic premise is to use an overview strategy hex map and allocate a scenario for each tile. Giving players the opportunity to move, withdraw, attack etc. Although I've only played around with a few ideas so far, the issue of recording casualties is bugging me. I've never created a campaign before, but from my understanding trying to incorporate casualties into a multiplayer campaign is going to necessitate a fair bit of admin, manually updating forces at the players' disposal after a battle has been fought. But what do you lot think would be easiest way? Would it be Combat Mission Recorder (http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=finishdown&id=2762)? When I tried downloading this version the CM recorder software didn't seem to be in the download file. Instead there just seems to be a load of the maker's CM related files. Anyone know where I can get a copy from? I would also like to incorporate an 'exit zone' option for scenarios fought as part of the campaign. The idea being if a defending force is facing a hopeless situation, the defending player would have the option to move his troops into an exit zone so his men could live to fight another day. However, when looking at CM's after action report, I realised it doesn't detail the men withdrawn using an exit zone. Should CM recorder be able to help get round this? Thanks
  3. For some reason I don't think it's in the The Few Good Men download depository, but you can download a copy of the file here: http://www.thefewgoodmen.com/thefgmforum/threads/bad-apples-scenario.18547/
  4. I had a few complaints about the video quality so I've uploaded a video in 720p HD quality.
  5. I played a recent PBEM and fired 5-6 zook shots before I finally hit my opponent's stug. The zooks were fired at ranges roughly between 85m-110m. Here's a video AAR, the zook action starts from about halfway in:
  6. Wow that is epic. I think the max I've played is a 5000-6000 pointer. I would love to see some P-47 rockets smash the back doors off those tigers. Looking forward to seeing how this one pans out.
  7. C2yeung H2H means 'head to head' ie 2 player. PBEM means 'play by email' the most common method of playing someone else in CM. I'm not sure if you're asking this, but I'll go off an a tangent in any case. H2H Helper is a simple but very effective piece of software for PBEM games. Originally players would email their turns to each other, which meant manually downloading and uploading turns - a labourious process which certainly put me off playing PBEM. Then along came Dropbox, which allowed each player to upload their turn's file to a shared 'cloud' folder which helped to speed up the process. Then Green As Jade (praise be the man) came up with H2H Helper. This very effective and free piece of kit will automatically upload and download your turn files to a designated dropbox folder which you share with your opponent - taking away all the administration involved in playing PBEM. Personally whilst I'll still play Campaigns in single player mode, I only now play scenarios against a human opponent. I recommend you give it a go, because if like me you'll probably find it more challenging and much more rewarding. I often have 3-4 PBEM games running at the same time, playing them out using H2H Helper. Depending on the size of scenarioat the moment I'm getting through 1-2 turns a day so a game will likely take a couple of weeks. Other than the satisifaction of playing a human opponent, the other advantage of PBEM is that you don't need to to write off half a day or more playing a scenario out in one sitting. I think H2H Helper is that good a piece of software Battlefront should pay Green As Jade to allow them to include it in their titles. It always gives me a warm glow turning on the laptop after getting back home from work to find I have a couple of turns to play out. There are plenty of places to find opponents, not least this forum. Otherwise I can recommend The Few Good Men forum and the Blitz.
  8. Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. Next AAR I'll be sure to get some close ups of the tank on tank action (does that classify as CM porn?). I'll also try to render the next one in a higher resolution so the video doesn't look so grainy. Ithikial and I are playing out a PBEM at the moment, from which we're both going to produce a video AAR so you'll get both sides perspectives which should make for a good watch.
  9. Hi chaps, just thought I'd let you know that I've uploaded a video AAR of a recent PBEM game I've fought. The scenario is called 'Bad Apples', designed by Rambler (thanks Rambler, great scenario). Odin
  10. I was going to suggest 'The Forgotten Soldier' and I'm glad to see it's the first recommendation made. Another book well worth a read is Cross of Iron, which does differ somewhat to the film (also well worth a watch if you haven't seen it).
  11. Chuck NZ your tanks getting tangled up in the vineyard is the pixel farmer's sweet revenge for your armour ruining his crop of grapes!
  12. Very well put argument. Many a time I have been frustrated by the limitations placed on AT guns by the game. If Battlefront could incorporate improvements to their speed of deployment and add an ability for crews to dismount and 'remount' their guns, these would be welcome additions in my opinion.
  13. PM sent Partykd. Vanir maybe we can battle in valhalla on the arrival of CM Eastern Front
  14. Hi CMFIers, after as hiatus from CM I'm looking to get back into the game. Does anyone out there fancy a CMFI PBEM? I have the Gustav expansion and would prefer to use H2H (I can't remember whether H2H requires both players to use it or not). If possible I'd prefer to go with a designed scenario, and am happy to download one from the repository. Give me a shout if you're interested, I'd be happy to run a couple of games at once. PS any word on when an Eastern Front CM2 is coming out? Cheers Odin
  15. If think that's the critic score Erwin, which is respectable. The user one I found is another story... Sburke, Metacritic scores are highlighted on Steam. Although CMBN can't be purchased from Steam, it is a site frequented by Steam users (as well as plenty of others). These people need to learn about the fantastic game they're missing out on!
  16. Hi all, just been reading some user reviews on Metacritic www.metacritic.com/game/pc/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy, and I was so shocked I felt compelled to write one highlighting the positives of CMBN. I'm sure I'm not the only one on these forums who would feel aghast at reading those early reviews posted on Metacritic, so if you've got the time and inclination why not post your thoughts on there? I also noted there is yet to have been a review posted of CMFI (I can't because I can't get FI working on my PC). Anyone fancy posting the first review? Cheers Odin
  17. Oh well thanks once again for organising it, and great tournament I really enjoyed it. I'm playing Eniced in another tournament so I guess we'll get that play off one way or another.
  18. Cheers Bimmer looking forward to the final. You've done a fantastic job putting the tournament together. If I get the chance to make a video for the final I'll try to remember to turn off the 'green'.
  19. Hi guys, I've posted a video AAR of my Farm Tournament semi final with Viajero to Youtube. Enjoy!
  20. Thanks for the tip Mikey. I uninstalled my AVG antivirus, but it doesn't seemed to have helped matters
  21. Has anyone else not been able to get their copy of CMFI to work? I've had my game installed for almost a week now but unfortunately the game crashes every time I try load a scenario/campaign. The BF guys are doing their best to resolve the situation, but as yet it's been to no avail. If anyone out there has had a similar situation but managed to fix the problem I would love to know how? I've also posted a similar message in the tech support page but had no answers, so I'd just thought I'd also ask here.
  22. I haven't been able to play yet. First my game didn't recognise the activation code I was given, and then it said I had used them all up. I've notified the activation people, and hope they get it sorted soon!
  23. I'm surprised they ended up dead. All they needed to do is keep their heads down. Heavy fire or not for them to get picked off time after time in under a minute's worth of machine gun fire, it tells me that half tracks are not doing the job they were designed to do or what you could reasonably expect them to do. Anyway I've already bitten once when I said I would say no more, so that's me over and out on the subject.
