    Introduction

I am in command of Kampgruppe Engel. A hastily put together force tasked with capturing the town of Bourg-St-Leonard. I have confidence in my troops as most are seasoned veterans. However the anti-armour capability of my small force is very low and is somewhat of a concern. KG Engel gained their objectives quickly in the first mission with very few casualties but unfortunately both Pz IV's were knocked out in an enemy ambush. The KG has been reinforced with a couple of Stummels, which will be useful for blasting troops out of buildings but they are not exactly tank killers. If the Americans show up with tanks in numbers then the whole mission could be in serious jeopardy. It will be crucial to try and find a good position for the PAK 40 and a lot is riding on the shoulders of Lt. Ober who is in command of the lone Panther tank. He and his crew have been together since '43 and have seen extensive action on the Eastern Front, where he was awarded the Iron Cross. The whole force only has one Panzer-schreck with two rounds and one Pz-faust(30)

I have decided to launch all my Nebelwerfer rockets on the town and approaches on Game Turn One with the hope of disrupting enemy communications and neutralising any American troops who may already occupy the town.

  2. My question in regards to mods is that once installed will it stay in the game as patches and different versions of the game are installed?

    Thanks.

Before you install a patch or an upgrade you need to remove the Z folder (containing all your mods) out of the data folder. Paste it somewhere handy. Install the patch or upgrade. Make sure the game works OK. Then place the Z folder with the mods back into the data folder. They should all work fine with a patch but may not with an upgrade. Remove any that don't.

  3. v1.1a didn't include menu screens yet.

@ Hilts: I can't even begin to imasgine what's happening there. Can you tell me which files /folders you had to delete for it to work, or did you remove the entire Screen backgrounds folder?

I've checked all the files in the Screen Backgrounds folder and it is the "Main Options Screen" file that is causing the problem. I am amazed that such a small file can cause so much havoc. Anyway, I have deleted it and the rest of the mod and the game work just fine. Great mod by the way!

I removed the entire Screen Backgrounds folder. I'll have another look at it and see if I can identify the file or files within that folder that is causing the problem

  5. @hilts, you can go into Juju's mod folder in your Z folder and manually delete his hotkey button mods and that should solve your problem.

Thanks Splinty! I did do that and identified the "Screen Backgrounds" folder to be the one that was causing the problem. I have removed this folder from the Z folder and so now 95% of Juju's mod works fine including ironically the hotkeys and buttons.

  6. I have discovered a problem with Juju's version 2.0 UI mod. Loading it corrupts the abilty to customise the hotkeys and half of them won't work even though they are shown correctly on the UI. I have had to uninstall the mod as I always use hotkeys for movement and combat. Juju if you are reading this I hope you can modify it as your UI mod is in my top five must have mods.

  7. I've installed them and taken a look at them, Umlaut. It really is a big improvement. Trenches and foxholes now blend in more and it looks so much more realistic than the old ones. A must have mod.

I agree with Aragorn. They no longer stand out like a sore thumb! Good work mate.

  8. Sorry for the offtopic, but the Ab41 driver seems to be quite incompetent and nervous, what is the reason you think? It took some seconds to realize why ;)

Do you mean because the commander is called Berlusconi? That would be enough to make anyone nervous. I'm surprised there aren't a couple of dolly birds draped over the back....maybe they're inside! Lol

  9. Well, I've had a look round the battlefield and it appears that the only units the poor weighed down jeep driver can supply (alive at any rate!) with all the small arms ammo he is carrying around with him is a couple of field gun crews and their ammo bearers! I realise the ammo resupply is abstracted but however you look at it this situation does seem a bit ridiculous. If ammo resupply is allowed in the game it would make far more sense to have any friendly unit able to resupply another regardless of whether he is alive or dead.....

I bet my opponent is loving this! Lol

  10. I have learned to keep jeeps, trucks, H - tracks behind troops (within1 action square) in the best cover as possible. In this way infantry will automatically acquire about 20 rounds a pop of its ammo when out. This works best when troops are in a building with the vehicle hidden behind it. It even works if troops are on higher story buildings. Best success has been with light machine guns that run through ammo quick, and don’t carry as much as heavies. One can keep them supplied with low maintenance this way. You do not need to keep loading the troops in the vehicle to acquire. This also gives use of the radio if the vehicle has one.

That's a good tip Vin. Didn't know that. Thanks.

  11. Best thing to do is to shoot the driver and then buddy aid him.

    :D

    Michael

So, the beleagured guys are almost out of ammo. Salvation! A buddy suddenly appears carrying two crates of ammo but they refuse to share because they're not in the same platoon?? (like kids in a playground)...but if he happens to get killed they can pick over him like vultures!

Wow!..I wonder who thought that one up. Lol

  12. only if the driver is under the same HQ (e.g. platoon or section) as the unit you want to share with.

Oh Nuts!......So it sounds like it's a case of driving the jeep into the fray and then having each unit board, acquire and dismount! Hang on! One of the units could run to the jeep and acquire and then auto-share with his mates..... Right?

  13. Hi all. I've got some guys involved in a viscious firefight who are running low on ammo. There is a jeep nearby with ammo on board but I don't want to take it too close in case it gets shot up. I'm proposing to have the driver acquire the ammo and run with it to the beleagured troops. Question is, will he share it with them automatically when he gets within one action square? They are all the same nationality but not necessarily from the same unit.....

  14. This also happened to me. It occurs when you want to attack as the Germans. I assumed it has something to do with the fact that if you look at the writing alongside the small picture of the map it says "Allied Attack". I looked at all the Attack QB maps and there is only one small size map where it says "Axis Attack". I haven't tried it but I suspect if you used that map to attack as the Germans, there wouldn't be a problem. It all seems a bit odd though.....

  15. An interesting set of responses....thanks. Just to clarify. I am playing a PBEM game so don't want to give too much away but the wall is more or less in open terrain with not much option to overwatch. The plan was to ambush any scout and or leading teams at short range, eliminate them and withdraw. If I were the opponent I would be checking out this wall. I think I prefer the HIDE option with a covered arc of maybe 30 metres and 360 deg. Can someone confirm though that the HIDE command means that someone is peaking over the wall or are they all face down in the dust and will my men open fire at 30 metres or just keep hiding until the enemy is right at the other side of the wall?

  16. I've got two or three teams crouching down behind a low wall. I want to set up an ambush for enemy troops which I believe are approaching the wall head on. What's the best way to do this? Do I leave the men crouching and put in some covered arcs (in which case I suspect my men will be spotted first and probably eliminated) or is it best to issue them with a hide command with a covered arc? I have used hide commands in the past and have seen my men shot in the back of the head at close range, without returning fire. Or is there a better solution that I don't know about? My troops are all veterans and in CC.....Thanks......

  17. If the mortar you want to resupply is not in direct LoS of enemy, you can just park the HT next to it and it should "share" the ammo.

This may slow the RoF of the mortar, but that might just be hearsay, I'm not sure.

Thanks, mate. I didn't realise it was as easy as that. It's not in direct enemy LOS so I will try it. Why would it slow the ROF of the mortar though?
