I am immensely grateful for patches: there are too many programs that really need patches, but nothing ever shows up. It still amazes me that everything generally runs so well. One of my early forays in game writing was on a 32K RAM (yes kiddies, you read that right) machine. It still took months to debug, not just the code, but also the game balance and eliminating unintended ways to cheat. Thinking about trying to reach the level I see in CM games just makes me very tired, and quickly reach for the Glenfarclas.

Tomorrows lottery numbers are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Did anyone actually point out to him that the Battle for Normandy didn't take place on the beaches? I mean you know, day one and we were ashore.
I only ask as it seems to be the corner stone of his disgruntlement, despite Cm1 not modelling the landings either.
Still, D-day is going to be the first thing that comes to mind when people hear the term "Normandy campaign" and I do think it is a pity that this part was completely left out of the game.

Did others notice who wrote a very negative letter in the NZ review thread?

I do recall hearing the West front games don't have to be complete before the East Front games. Since there are other people working on CMx2 besides their core team.
Please: have some consideration. At my age, the thought of an early Eastern front game got me so excited my wife had to fan me vigorously. Having survived the return of CM to the Mac, I remain fragile; and only regular applications of Glenfarclas 105 keep me active.

I have to decline accepting this because it is 90° here in Michigan and I could REALLY use a fanboy or fangirl to follow me around and keep me cool. Sorry.
WAIT! Don't go... an olive branch might work just as well! Are you just providing goods only or services rendered as well?
j/k, way to go!
I think that is the job for the dove.
Anyway: for me, apology accepted (can't speak for the rest of the forum). I find this group so refreshing compared to many others simply because the level of conversation s generally mature (obviously not including the Peng thread)

a 40" monitor?! I could almost hate you. :-P
Just sit 6" from a regular monitor

I prefer Paper-Tigers to Wooden Shermans.
Both are easily destroyed by rolling burning oil barrels

Gotta have paint shells and loudspeakers on the tanks

I think there was a related thread earlier. Turns out (surprise) that people all have their favorite mix. Some love straight armor vs armor, others love combined arms and others infantry battles. I would suggest trying all possible combinations in various terrain settings and see which appeals to you most.
FWIW my preference is infantry vs infantry in moderately closed terrain, but I mix it up to get a better feel for other options.

"but you don't love people for their potential but for what they are."
I hope you don't plan to go into teaching as your career

Why are there coconuts hanging off the truck?

Just out of curiosity I played as US: Got a 500:0 win with no casualties and never even saw the Panther. Obviously not intended to be played this way, but still curious.

Well, this explains a lot about the sometimes surprising failures:
Transcript of radio exchange
"Hans: there is a Sherman at 3 o'clock"
"Hermann has a free sock??"
"No! A Sherman!!"
" A worm in what??"
End of transmission.............

Just looked at the scenario for the first time. Out of curiosity I left all German units in place and hiding. Then I simply let them react with no input from me. Result: a 500:0 German victory.

I understand there are real technical problems: but I would love to see the return of random QB maps.Maybe there is a compromise. If there is a current map with specific objectives, and therefore an AI plan in place, could the remainder of the map be randomized?

Some idea of the inflation of reporting vs actual losses can be gleaned from the Battle of Britain. Britain claimed to have shot down 2698 German planes, though German records show just 1100 losses: reverse figures are 3058 vs 650. Granted there is more chance of inaccuracies in aerial combat, but I am sure a similar, though lesser, inflation takes place in all battles.

I feel that all weapon types should be included, and that their overall effect should be included (CMBO had flamethrowers generating a 'shock' effect as I remember). The graphic visual details are not needed to provide the needed result. However, if CM could code a marker for each type of wound, then those who wanted to could Mod the appropriate overlays and each of us could decide if we wanted to use them.
-
huh? I dont understand. A single German soldier with bad teeth qualifies to be called vampire? Then what would you call the British army?
I think, if you look closely, this is the Mark II, with retractable fangs. There is a clear gap between the incisors and molars where the fangs slide into place when needed. The failure was not bad teeth, but the inability to operate in daytime.

Being British, I can answer this: smoke, and have someone else cover while you "quick" away.
"Smithers: what we need is a futile but gallant gesture"
"Sir!!!"
"Stay here and stop the Jerries from coming down this road"
"Sir!!!!"
"Good bye and good luck Smithers"
"Shall we say 'au revoir' sir?"
"No, goodbye Smitjhers"
With apologies to Beyond the Fringe

I'm glad you brought up Canada. With all this nonsense of me hating Australia, I would like to point out that I really hate Canada. I mean, it used to be that I could drive a mere 4 hours and stare at some of the most beautiful women on the planet while sipping the best beer and staying the whole week for a couple hundred US Dollars. Now the Canadian Dollar stands at $1.03, domestic inflation has made the average pint in the tourist areas cost $7.50, and to make sure the hotels don't suffer in this off economy they've outlawed cost effective house rentals to be less than 30 days. Thus making my previous 10 day vacations on the cheap rival the costs of going to the Caribbean.
So yeah, if you guys on this Forum want to see my ire up about another nation, I say "Blame Canada" even if they didn't kill all the Baldwins. Reference this video:

Dear Sirs
As a Canadian I am fed up with all the misinformation and haters that abound on this site. Just to set the record straight: we no longer put our grandmothers on ice floes as an alternative to Canada Pension (well, okay they do in Newfoundland but you have to remember they joined us quite recently). As for the cost of everything going up, just remember you used to make fun of our multicoloured banknotes: had a look at yours recently? Now who looks like Monopoly money, and you still don't have any loons on your coins!
I have to go: a Polar bear is attacking the sled dogs, so I have to send smoke signals for the Mounties

I have played CMx2 since CMSF came out and I am used to this tabs. Sorry to spoil the fun, but I would be upset if the tabs would be taken away.
But I don't think it will happen anyway...
And I was used to the CMBO approach, but accept the changes in CMBN
Of course I always remember "There are two kinds of fool: those that say 'This is the old way and therefore good', and those who say ' This is the new way, and therefore better' "

This is why I would love an on/off toggle that lets you see exactly what is in LOS for a selected unit. In RL the unit obviously knows what can/cannot be seen but I spend maybe half my planning time simply trying to determine who can see what by trial and error.
