  1. It is prettier and more fearsome looking buttoned. I'm not sure you guys realize how far out of the "action" that my armor is. I would feel comfortable having the crew dismount, dance a fairy dance around the Hetzers and remount.

But then again......maybe Bil has infiltrated deeper than I know. Good thing I'm buttoned up. The tank commander is always the first to go.

    Great! Post the movie clip.

  2. For anyone interested, the link shows how murderous the Molotov cocktail can be versus armor. It also shows how any kind of immobilization or other disablement created the conditions making Molotov cocktail attacks eminently doable. Ferdinand losses and loss causes at Kursk.

Wow! I love the one "Commander's hatch was hit by the 203 mm shell". That's got to hurt.

  3. I always thought the shadows in CM1 were a neat idea, even when it was overcast! There was a certain sense of dread, as the enemy winged assassin zoomed toward critical units, even worse if it was a friendly winged assassin!

Since I play a lot of Skyrim, shadows would make me think "Dragon". Hmmm, memo to development team......

  4. it is amazing how fast 50 comes after you turn 40, so you guys in your 20's and 30's better enjoy it while you can. It's just around the corner. :(

I have long held the belief that time is speeding up. This is why vacations as a child lasted forever, but just whistle by when you are an adult. I also believe that gravity is increasing, which explains why we start to sag as we get old.

  5. You've probably missed all the explanations about why random maps simply don't work in the CMx2 world even as they kindof did in x1.

    1) they're an order of magnitude more complex (at least) to make produce even halfway decent maps.

    2) the AI needs a Plan. How can you generate a Plan from a random piece of terrain? The AI sucks badly enough already at maneuver (I'm discounting plans with triggers, cos we've not seen those in action yet) that a random plan on a random map would pretty much always be a turkey shoot for even a halfway competent human.

I think they'd be trumpeting it from the rooftops if the Brain in a Jar had come up with a way of overcoming those two obstacles.

Not wishing to tell them what do (promptly does so). Would it be possible to have a general map and associated AI plan, but randomly alter elements within the scenario? hills might get bigger, woods thin out etc. This might offer greater variety from the existing QBs.

  6. You have no idea how right you are! At the risk of violating my Beta NDA, I'll reveal what happend about a month ago:

Beta team: "Hey, BFC, this East Front testing gig is getting us down!"

Steve: "Yeah, me too. I'm totally worn out."

Beta team: "How about we take a few months off and just smell the roses, or even just play CMBN?"

    Steve: "I like that plan."

Beta team: "Should we reconvene around July?"

Steve: "Wait!!! Cymru has just reminded me that I promised we'd get it out soon! Get back to work, you freeloading minions!"

It was close, man, real close. Thanks.

    ;)

Just as well. Us septuagenarians get pretty ornery dagnabit. Remember, I was born during the battle of Kursk (well not actually there, but at the same time), so I have a stake in this.

  7. Real senior moment (day) for me! I am thinking 'why is everyone so big on the Hetzer, it never struck me as that good'. Finally look it up: I have been seeing a Marder in my mind all day!

Calls for another celebratory glass of Glenfarclas 105.
