  1. Actually ~Viajero you are the one in the wrong and not BF as far as I see it. It is your responsibility to figure out what it's going to cost you to have something sent to your door and not BF's. You made some assumptions on something and you were wrong. People make mistakes and it looks like you made one here. I've made many mistakes in my life and about the only thing you can take from them is to learn from them. I suggest that's what you do with this one. Ranting about it will change nothing except increase your blood pressure. :)

    EDIT

Wow, forget what I wrote...lots of replies already lol, situation resolved.

  2. It's not very useful for anything other than it's ammo slugging and C2 capabilities. The latter is something that will have to be experienced to be appreciated. Keeping mortars in C2 within the game is quite difficult, thanks to the general lack of man portable radios. The radios for M21/M4 halftracks are mounted in the vehicles so no vehicle means no radio.

We don't support firing mortars from within vehicles because there's a bunch of complications with that from a simulation standpoint. The most significant is that these vehicles could only fire indirectly if the spotter knew exactly where the mortars were parked. The "on-the-fly" capabilities in CMx1 were quite unrealistic, except when firing without a spotter (i.e. direct fire).

Well coming from a strictly leg perspective, lots of ammo and C2 plus not having to hump either the mortar or all that ammo sounds plenty of useful to me. I am sure the fire support provided would be found useful as well :P

  3. All that said, is this something on your 'Like to do if we've got the time' list or is it something realistically just isn't going to happen with time and resources you have?

Just asking because I'm curious as usual. I'm strictly in the if it happens it happens if it don't it don't camp but I do like to keep a mental list of possibilities regarding the game. :)

  4. The manual lists the M3 as having an effective range of close to 100m .. what? Twice the range of the Thompsons. Is this true? This blows my perception of the M3 if so.

It also depends on what you mean by effective.

Do you mean effective in a manner that an average GI can hit a target he's aiming at more often than not and kill it or do you mean that whatever he points the weapon at and pulls the trigger causes the target to go to ground? There's a big difference there imo and both of them get the job done depending on what you're trying to do.

  5. Imagine the whole new level of grogginess...

"I'm sorry, but there's no way my AT-AT should have died... it has 80mm of face-hardened plate at 17 degree angle, and it was mid-step, which grants an additional 3 degrees of slope, making an effective armor thickness of 97mm, while the velocity of that bomb-laden swallow was only 3 mph... Unless, of course, that was an african swallow was carrying a shaped charge Mk IV and coasting between wingbeats at the moment of impact..."

Oh yeah, come get some :P

Tbh even though none of it is 'real' it would be a nice change of pace from debating the same WW2 stuff over and over. See the SS thread for further details ;)

What I want to know is did Vader really order planets to be depopulated for certain experiments or was he simply following orders? :D

  6. IF...they ever do add fire I would be fine with it just being confined to certain objects if that's what holds up whether to add it or not. It's nice to have fire and then also have it jump from a building to the grass and so forth but I am also perfectly fine with a house collapsing from HE or whatnot and then the fire just sticking to that. It's not 100% realistic but to me having a chance of certain things catching on fire and not spreading is more realistic than everything being 100% fire retardent :P I've been to A LOT of fires and not all of them spread like everything is coated in lighter fluid. :)

  7. We can't all blame it on Hollywood guys. The sad truth is Hollywood churns out whatever makes money and they make money by people buying and going to go see what they like. There have been plenty of first class story driven movies without special effects over the last couple of years...they just don't rake in cash like the stuff you are poking fun at. Nothing wrong with that but I wouldn't go so far as to pin this all on Hollywood :P For the record I can't stand Hollywood myself or many of its 'citizens'.

  8. Copied that, which is the way it should be :) What I was curious about tho is if 'pilots' called in can accidentally target your troops? Tbh I'm not sure if that was a big issue in this timeframe as far as blue on blue goes but accidents can and do happen so wanted to know if its something the engine takes into consideration? In the airstrike vid it looks like they are deliberately targeting the armour as targets, can they (virtual pilots) accidentally target your soft targets or your armour by mistake? More worried about infantry type targets for obvious reasons.
