  1. I've had some where it took 2 or 3 shots for them to bracket something in but then they'd be pretty steady on target or on anything else in the near area. Not sure if once dialed in they make adjustment to other targets from there or what but I haven't seen to many 1 shot 1 kills so far. I've only seen a Panther shot once while on the move and it missed high before losing sight of the target. Only played Closing the Pocket once though so far and Sermans do blow up something fierce like.Tell ya what, I'm not looking forward to playing as the US and going against those Panthers :)

  2. Played Regular WEGO myself. Lost 25 KIA and 2 tanks to the AT gun. Germans left with 5 alive with rest WIA or MIA. 12 minutes left with both objectives taken.

    ---SPOILERS---

First impressions are that the AI spotters don't F around. I lost half a squad and my whole platoon HQ to one round that just dropped like a daisy cutter on them. Saw the spotting rounds but figured I'd ride it out....ouch. I replayed it over and over...like a damn movie as they just went flying through the air. The HQ unit was just straight gone. So that was fun running the three squads with no leadership other than squad leaders. Luckily they got the task done down on the left side and the HQ unit had called in some awesome rounds. The farmhouse for me was cake, seemed there were only 2 half squads in there and they were pretty wiped out by the time I stormed the 3 structures. What really helped as others have mentioned was calling in a linear mortar request right down the wall by the far bridge. The HQ unit had eyes on several squads there and I checked end of game and that mortar had 15 kills. Pretty Johny on the spot there just walking rounds down the wall. Both tanks made it on that side till the end until one got nailed by a shrek but no damage, crew bailed and the was last turn and game didn't tally it as a kill which was a bit sad because I wanted them to remount it, but oh well.

The right side, well...that is one hell of a line of sight down that crooked road for that AT gun. Brewed both Shermans right up as soon as they got close to that little cunning slope out in the meadow. Once they paid the ultimate price I was able to hose the area down with one of the MG teams and then dropped mortars on the location to suppress it and a nearby MG unit. I then was able to move one of the Shermans on the left side safely (good thing there weren't 2 AT's but I gambled :P) and just plastered the area with HE for a good 5 minutes which worked since that Shermans got the Pak40 killmail. After that it was pretty much working down both sides using lots of covering fire and bounding movements. I still got several guys killed but for most part a lot of Germans gave up or ran. Better troops and I'd definitely would have had a harder time of it. All in all a very well done tutorial to learn the ropes again.

My biggest gripe after just one playthrough on the tutorial was that some of the death animations seemed to get stuck midway showing guys in the process of falling down but frozen in midair etc. Not sure if that's just a tutorial thing or something on my end though but its just a bit distracting. Maybe 1 in 20 guys seemed to do it and just the Germans for some reason. Never noticed any of my boys stuck like that. Other than that...I've found my new poison for a long time to come.

Well done BF and testers, your hard work and committment show clearly within the game. :)

  3. Nice, uploaded about an hour it seems and by the time it is done downloading for me it'll be time for bed which means I won't get to check it out till I get off. What a shock.

Damn I hate that &@$!(@!!#$ stupid Murphy sob. Oh well, guess I know what I'll be doing during my training on the iphone :P

  4. During the War (yes, that war), whenever a USN ship was lost there was always a Board of Inquiry. Usually it cleared the captain, who then continued his career unimpeded. However, there were a few that ended up with such jobs as overseeing a potato storage depot in Idaho, etc.

    Michael

I've heard that grounding a ship was also a bad thing to do for a career in the navy. :)

  5. We always trained never have your finger on the trigger unless your ready to pull it.....that way you don't get an accidental discharge in case you get surprised.....How's Fairfield.....I'm a former Vanden Viking from years back.....still go back when ever there's a class reunion......

Nice, I went to Golden West when I was an air force brat. My son will be going there and then more than likely Vanden himself. Small world eh? :)

If your still local after game release we should PM and set up a game :D

  6. I tried it back in the CMBO days, but only with small set-ups. Even then I found it hard to keep a mental picture of where everyone was in my head. So, I did what I had done in training: created a laminated map and used a grease pencil to mark locations. At that point I realized I was simply transferring the computer overhead view from the screen to the map and scrapped the whole idea.

To be honest I don't see the problem. The computer overhead is always correct; however, you on the other hand will be marked down locations based on your first person views through your platoon leaders eyes. If you make a mistake on your location and report that back to the CO unit which you then record on your grease board, well...things could get interesting, especially when that arty support arrives.

  7. Anyone tell you its bad habit to rest your finger on the trigger...even allowing that you're a primate. I mean just think what would happen when you finally see the game go live and you all tense up like. Now take it one step further and let's assume you have said gun pointed at your PC :P

  8. If you wanted light and accurate you'd go for the M1 carbine. When thinking of the Thompson think of the end of the movie Bonnie & Clyde. At 700 rounds per minute you didn't need to be particularly accurate. Something's bound to hit something. M3 Greasegun ROF was just about half that

Yeah, that's the ole' spray and pray technique. The Thompson always reminds me of the Valentines Day massacre myself. :)

  9. Simpons comic shop guy voice...

Ehem, you will remember there is a scene setting shot just prior to Luke handing himself in where you can clearly see an AT-AT docked to lower left of the shuttle landing pad. It would be safe to assume that this vehicle may have been deployed in the Ewok insurrection that followed later in the movie even though there is no footage (hah! a toe cheese related pun) of said vehicle in combat.

This now leads us to one of those 'it was in the threatre but is there evidence of it being in combat?' discussions. Let us to the interwebs for answers!

    :D

    It did not. :D

  10. Gotta admit, if I told the boys at work that I like to wargame...well let's just say I'd have to deal with a lot of ribbing and that's putting it politely. :P

Don't get me wrong, there's no shame in my game at my age (Hey, I like anime and Star Wars too), but I am at the same time not to keen on handing out free ammo to guys that act like they are still in high school at times either :)

  11. I believe in the U.S. Army gun crews are legally liable for their guns. Strange, I know. Even today I've heard of wounded Iraq veterans being charged for the cost of their missing (blood-stained) body armor after they got home. So one does not casually walk away from such an expensive piece of equipment, especially if the enemy can turn it on you afterward if they get hold of it. Think of it as simulating the gun being abandoned only under extreme duress and that the gun gets 'spiked' somehow to make it useless.

The absolute worst thing you could do at the NTC while on rotation was to lose/misplace your rifle, gps, night gear or MILES gear. They'd get the whole freakin Squadron at their looking for your lost sh!t and guys would wish they'd gotten lost instead of their gear. Man I still remember forming up a line to literally comb the fn desert. :(

So yes, you were held accountable for your trash and when you ETS's you turned in all your stuff as well, although having a good supply SGT was always nice ;)
