Hey all you grogs and whatnot... Have a safe and happy holiday.
Take care. -
Awesome battle, but finding impossible to win. Soviets have too much. I've found that if the pre-planned smoke screen is off target it makes you life a little easier, but still can't win.
I've taken to using the editor to give myself some extra goodies-2 Tiger tanks and an extra pair of AT teams and still I'm having a difficult time.
I tried to add King Tigers, but I don;t see them in the editor.
I had to add more AT guns and Shrek teams.
That initial smoke screen makes the first village a cake walk for the soviets -
Speedy recovery

I try designing scenarios.
I'm not terribly good at it. -
nice.
want to see it.

Sorry guys I don't exactly know how to search for this question, but I don't see it answered. I think I have some interest in combat mission games but watching videos I notice that the edges of the map or when viewing the playing area zoomed out there's a plain grassy green border around all the playing area, frankly it looks like it would kill immersion for me. Is there a setting or mod that changes the border around the map to make it more immersible? Thanks
I'll also ask is Red Thunder the best for WW2 stuff (best game play/graphics) and Black Sea for modern combat? Or better to start with a different title?
Welcome to our bizzare world of grogdom and absurdity. Red Thunder is great for historical correctness.
Download the demo and play for a while, then buy the full game. -
I am the one who designed mission 1. The map, opposing forces and defenses are all as close as possible to the historical situation on the morning of June 23rd as we could determine based on the historical records.
you don't like the scenario? I am sure the Russians and Germans who actually had to fight it in real life liked it even less.
Having tried to force my poor Russians through that map, I agree that they likely hated it.
Suffice to say I was only able to take the first line, and at heavy cost. -
How long did it take to make that ensemble?
the hat took about 30 minutes.
the tunic about 3 hours... spread over a few days. -
Alright Joakim! Tux jacket with flowery shorts!
Can I also see by show of hands who is interested to take on the role as CO of their side and make the operational decisions?
Here's a hand.. I found it in the alley out back.

Over $200.oo american... so $300.oo Canadian.
I rather like my parts, so will not be selling any spare kidneys to by this tome.
That said, a lotter win might get me to buy it. -
Early December when Typhoon fails. The other operations up to that point are all still part of the Barbarossa campaign, to me. When the objective of defeating the Red Army in one swift campaign is formally abandoned, by a forced transition to a defense posture in front of Moscow, Barbarossa is over. Whatever the German army is trying to do after that is following other plans, and goals, and expectations. There are operational and tactical adaptations before then, but no change in the goal, nor in the continuing hope and planning expectation that it can and will be achieved.
The stupidity continued under new names. Bustard Hunt, Blau, Zitadel, etc etc...
But Barbarossa was dead -
Anything Soviet with a 45 mm, 57 mm, or 76.2 mm gun.

And it's back.
And I'm learning to HATE Tinypic
Comments and hate mail welcome -
I was philosophizing over beer, when it occurred to me that the Italian campaign was a continuation of the African campaign.
Africa was of course the big event for England, that island of bad weather and worse food. Standing as it does between the happy union of Scotland and Wales.
Montey's Desert Rats. The birth of the SAS. A million cheesy b&w movies about pudgy sargents and cheerfull poms, baking in the Sahara sun, but never seeming to tan.
The next expansion pack for the Mediterranean ought to be further south. In Africa.
Lets see if BFC can swing this.
Montey's 8th army vs Rommel's DAK.
Lets see it happen -
So I've been testing the Italians a fair bit recently. They have shortcomings, but I find that if played right they can be quite effective.
What does anybody else think of them? -
Boobs.
And the ability to import units from a saved game.
In CMX1 I used this to turn many a QB into a prolonged campaign. -
Russia was more of a meatgrinder, but i find that i can still keep infantry casualties within reason.
There is less cover, and so you have to be more carefull. -
For this game is intimidating my last quick battle I had 400 something soviet troops to set up and I didn't even know where to start.
Set them up according to organic groupings.
Set all squads and attached sections of a platoon together .
Group all platoons of a company together.
All companys of a battalion together.
Take your time, and think about what formations you have... and where you are sending them. -
I made a smock.
I didnt think much about what it would look like.
I ended up with this...
-
Never seen it.

This is documentary made for Russian Television about the Great Patriotic War and the Soviet Army's rise from defeat to victory. It even covers the war against Japan in the last chapter. There appears to be 18 chapters in all. The narration is in English but the maps are in Russian.
The interesting thing about this series is that they are honest about the mistakes made and needles loss of soldiers if that is the truth of the situation. Something that rarely happens in Russia, objective journalisim.
The reenactments of the battles are good and the CGI for the tanks, artillery and aircraft looks great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0A6UWkK2U4s This is chapter one, Operation Barbarossa.
May we always remember the great sacrifices and losses the Russian people endured in the war. Salute comrades.
great series.
