  1. I have a notion that because CM is such a rich gaming experience many players are eager to see it go that last step into *Perfection*...or at least what they conceive perfection to be. It may say something about where the human race is at this time that people are so desperately hungry for perfection and are expecting to find it in a computer game. Ah well, carry on.

    could be.
    personaly i like the game.
it sometimes has its crappy moments, but so does real life.
Watching your lone tank get killed by a random stray mortar round, just before the enemy tank walks into your perfect ambush, tends to make me want to throw furniture. But that's life.

  2. This was a scenario where five Hornets are trying to hold off a mob of T-34s and halftracks with a little help from some infantry and an infantry gun or two. Due to borg spotting, the Hornissen were not able to play out their historical role successfully as long range tank snipers. They get spotted by just about all the Soviet tanks as soon as they open fire and picked off by the heavy return fire even though they are hull down behind a ridge crest. There were also problems with trying to employ shoot & scoot tactics. For me at least, the scenario was a big disappointment. I would hope that in CMx2 they would at least have a fighting chance.

Oh yeah... That one... Yeah. I remember now....
    I never beat that one.
    Borg spotting was a killer.

What was the range from ridge to the forest cover again?? About 1500 meters or so?

  3. Does anyone know if this scenario from CMBB has been remade for RT? I would love to play it again.

    Refresh my memory.
Its been some time since CMBB.
It didnt come with the game (CMRT). Although there must be a player who has made, or is trying to make, a CMRT version of it.

  4. Greetings, ladies and gents.

I've played CMBS and it is one of the best games I've ever played. Now I'm going to step into WW2 CM, and I don't really know which one of these two to choose.

I know, the question is going to have people shouting at me "Do you have any idea how different they are?!". Yes I do. I've played both demos, and I like both, despite the fact that their greatest similarity is both of them being called Combat Mission. :D In CMBS, I liked both combined arms missions and infantry only missions, probably preferring combined arms missions (involving armour and mech infantry) by a rather small margin. I want to hear your opinions about these two games. I really like the Ostfront atmosphere, but recently I've developed a liking for CMFI after reading through the forums.

And by the way, are there any user-made Soviet campaigns for CMRT? I've looked at the mods section and at TSD, and all the campaigns I've seen have been German.

Thanks in advance. I figured that the CMRT forums were more active, and that's why I've posted it here.

I believe the correct answer is
    YES.

  5. Personaly I rather like CMRT, and its related games of the same era.
The camera system works smoothly and easily.
In a world dominated by FPS games, and army builder games that depend on mindless zerg rush... CM represents a better quality of game, for a better quality of player.
Concealment and spotting is sometimes tricky, but usualy pretty realistic.
The multiple layers of AI make for a realism you dont find in army builders like C&C, Starcraft, and Cossacks. Your troops respond like human beings, not mindless mooks.

It does require a bit of thought and planning. You cant build more units, or upgrade units. You have to make the best of what you have. This may alienate a lot of idiots who would otherwise clutter this board with "L33T" and other such dribble and drivel. But then... who needs them.
We have a solid community of mature and semi-rational adults, most of whom can communicate in at least one language. And for those who cannot we have PENG.

All in all a pretty good deal.

  6. I've had a similar experience, only in the opposite direction. In a QB against the AI, my T-70 spotted a panzer of some sort through a deep zone of trees, and pummeled it for over a minute.
    I save/surrendered, and took a peek. I had immobilized a panther G, and disabled it's gun.
    Happiest missmatch result EVER.

IRL I have seen just how variable sight lines can be in summer forest. Gaps can be a narrow as your arm, but can run hundreds of feet. If you are in the right spot you can see out into the open, and beyond. Step a mere half a pace to either side though, and you cant see past spitting range.

    Your SU 85 got lucky.

  7. Well i remember reading on here sometime around when CMRT was first announced they planned on doing an entire East front family that would eventually get be in 41-42 So they might be headed to early war.. I really hope they do as early war is more interesting im getting tired of panthers. Give me more Panzer IIs and some Pz38s already

    And bt 7s
