  1. You can PROBABLY change the spacebar to right click somewhere in the controls.

    Keep in mind too that you can completely change the hotkeys, to the point where you have no need for the menu at all.

    I switched to the "alternate hotkeys" (go into your game folder, you'll see it, just rename it "hotkeys" and rename your "hotkeys" file to something else, unless you don't care about losing it) and then did some further modifying of my own. I now have everything of importance tied to a hotkey, and never have to use the menu at all.

  2. Let me tell you, as a Beta tester we had a framerate counter in the corner and I was always think "28fpi! 19fpi! Oh no!" Then I started playing the clean release candidate builds. No framerate counter was an immense weight off my mind. That darned framerate counter was like a nagging wife. My suggestion - abandon the framerate counter and judge game speed by the seat of your pants. If its fast its fast, if its slow its slow.

    Ignorance is bliss eh?

    But seriously, I can tell when it drops below 25 FPS very easily :P

    If anyone here never drops below 40 or 50 FPS I'd love for them to post up their system specs.

  3. AFAIK ,CMBN is cpu bound.

    So changing your processor to sumthing faster might help ( not very astonishing ). Or you could overclock your current system. Or turn down the graphical goodness ...

    In other words... getting a better video card or more RAM won't really do much?

    Sucks cause my old computer actually had a faster (single) CPU... and it seems most duo and quad cores all have around 2-2.5GHz so getting a new one won't really help me.

  4. I should also add that the music is WAY better than that awful "Arab Rock" I had to put up with till I was told how to put in custom music lol.

    However I eagerly look forward to "speech" mods like CMSF had... I'm already starting to go crazy from the "Watch the flanks men" ;). It's like the same irritating officer time traveled back to WW2!

  5. @noxnoctum

    I would expect those low quality troops to rout when facing such violent firepower.

    Going prone and awaiting annihilation behind this stone wall is not what sounds traceable.

    If they dont panic when facing 4 Shermans only 300m away with no AT capability...then give them some medals please. :D

    Some of them tried to run away... thing is, they were in cover... the ones that DID retreat just got mowed down even more easily because I had total LOS to them. The ones in cover were getting area fired on cause I wasn't exactly sure where they were.

  6. I dunno, my armor was doing a fantastic job of suppressing basically the entire main German line at the crossroads objective. Once the AT gun was spotted and taken out that is ;) (at the cost of one of my Shermans...))... once it was dead though, I had all 4 of my remaining tanks pounding the brush incessantly with HE and MG fire and my troops were literally able to run across the open field only very occasionally getting shot at. Once they arrived at the crossroads about 80% of the enemy troops were already dead from the Shermans' fire. I took maybe 2-3 more casualties when a guy with an MP40 blasted out, but my point squad easily cleaned up the rest (maybe 10 guys). They were all busy cowering for the most part.

    I got a total victory quite easily... despite losing an entire squad when the bridge they were crossing got knocked out by the AT gun. 932-110, my favor :).

  7. Timeframe of RoW VI as follows:

    (1) Nablah reasoning of a tournament, which is a pair <N,A> where N is a finite set of at least two elements, which we will call players, and A is a zero-one matrix, such that its diagonal entries are zeroes and for all i, j ε N, i ≠ j, aij +aji = 1. The interpretation is that each pair of players in N played each other once, and aij = 1 if, and only if, i beat j.

    (2) Nablah gets a bright spark, drops the "h" in his name, and produces another beautiful math equation for ranking/rating RoW in different sections. Failing that, repeat step (1);

    (3) He writes a new front-end for NABLA, to be used by moi, the tourney director;

    (4) Demo and CMBN by now released in wild. Everyone forgets NABLA and RoW for awhile;

    (5) Scenario designers approached with concept paper for designing 7 scenarios specifically for RoW to test players abilities w/ every CM unit capable of being clicked w/ mouse pointer;

    (6) Invited Scenario designers goes in evil genius lock-down mode and design diabolical battles, never seen before; the need to wear clothes while doing so not obligatory;

    (7) Invites and dates set and announced on forum for tourney start. Vets that showed interest to play RoW VI will get 10-14 days grace to reply to invites, following that invites send to newbies, who showed interest in playing, all via PM.

    (7a) (7) above not possible for Newbies without obligatory thesis titled: Why we should character assassinate your name upon drop-out;

    (8) Great fun and gnashing of teeth to be had for +/-150 days, depending on state of intoxication while playing;

    (9) Winners announced, I drink wine, send corks as prizes, winners fêted as the greatest ever to set foot on Normandy.

    Thanks for the (very detailed) info ;).

  8. Keep in mind FRAPS slows the game down somewhat. I use Teamspeak 2 overlay personally, I think it slows down the game far less...

    I seem to be getting better performance in this than CMSF, which is strange considering there's more foliage.

    I'm wondering though... since it doesn't take multi-core CPUs into account, what would be the most effective thing to upgrade to get better performance? As it is I usually hover between 25-40 FPS. I'd like to consistently have 40+ FPS at least...

  9. Hmm, I was playing in Iron mode, and I never saw anything other than generic infantry symbols on the enemy icons. I didn't bother to look at the lower display when I selected them however.

    Ya that's what I'm talking about, not the icons but the display. Perhaps I misunderstood the manual and Iron/Elite mode simply means you only see generic infantry icons but can still get detailed info if you click on them. It'd be nice if you could turn that off... TMI IMO. What's the purpose of only having generic infantry icons but still having detailed info available if you click on them?

  10. Moth... also realize that you can tell who's in who's formation/unit by clicking on any of the units in it. The rest of the units in that formation will light up as well, while units not in the formation will have their icons stay "darkened". Same basic idea as CMx1's CnC lines. I actually like it better, less stuff cluttering the screen and you get the same info just as quickly.

  11. Well after finishing the tutorial mission I have to say I'm impressed!

    First off the performance seemed to be significantly better than that of CMSF. (odd considering there's much more foliage)

    Also, I was quite shocked to see virtually an entire squad of mine get wiped out when a German AT gun fired on the wooden bridge they were crossing near the first objective LOL. It collapsed and all but two guys got insta-KIAed.

    Also nice to see more guys surrendering it seems.

    One quick bug report though:

    buggedbuilding.jpg

    The small destroyed building shown here got glitched... I had both my HQs in there at one point (though I thought only one at a time till I looked over and saw both in there)... and they couldn't get out!! Finally an enemy artillery shell came in and landed directly on the building and killed all 6 guys except for 1. Even when it was destroyed and all his comrades dead the guy still refused to leave the building. Finally I tried a "face" order and THEN issued a move order. That fixed it. Also, no one could move BACK into the building after it was blown up, which I thought was strange... needless to say I was unable to provide buddy aid.

    Anyways, something somewhat minor to look into.

    Also... I was playing on elite, which is supposed to not show me specific enemy infantry names etc. but it was not only showing me who was an MG and all but actually telling me their unit name! Am I doing something wrong here or is the demo automatically on easy mode?

  12. Hmmm... strange.

    Still I'd wager in a RT game against a human opponent you might think differently. Sure you have to memorize more keys, but it's so much more efficient once you do. And it doesn't take that long to learn tbh ;). (especially when it's F for Fast, H for Hide, etc... it makes sense)

    I'm just saying that for major gaming sites like Gamespot etc... they'll probably react with a slight "WTF?" if they don't see the option to change hotkeys in the readme. And sure sure, you can say "Oh well they're just a mainstream site who cares blah blah blah" but I remind you that they gave CMBB a 9.1 and editor's choice. Just cause it's a niche game does NOT mean they'll give it a poor review. For most gamers the above makes more sense. I'm positive of that.

  13. For the full game, I'd highly advise you guys to make the "direct" hotkeys system the default and have the relative system as the "alternative".

    For most people it's way more intuitive... both for old CMx1 players and for RTS players or anyone who plays strategy games of any type really. Having to only press one button to issue an order > having to only press two and cycle through menus.
