  1. For renaming do I not put a _ before the number?

And do these bmps need to be in the same folder or can I just have a separate variant folder and the game is smart enough to "put it all together"? based on file names?

And does it matter how many subfolders a brz or bmp file is under or will the game still find it as long as it's under z?

Oh ya and also, does the game automatically assign similarly numbered bmp "pieces" of a vehicle together? (i.e. panther_g_hull 2 and panther_g_turret 2) or is there a chance it could screw up and stick say panther_g_hull 2 with panther_g_turret 3?

    thanks

  2. Haha seeing you guys flipping out is a bit funny :D

Really though, triggers could be immensely useful for scenario making.

Example: When certain total point value of enemies enter an objective zone (Say a town), it triggers reinforcements for the other side. This would be great for more precise timings for things rather than relying entirely on just "30 minutes have gone by" (which is how it's done right now correct?)

  3. Ya I can imagine someone giving up pretty quick if they're using the terrible tab system for their hotkeys. Ugh! I could see that detracting some serious points.

I on the other hand have every single (important) command hotkeyed to a unique key. I just used space bar to issue commands till I had them all memorized.

  4. Have you guys heard of Minecraft? Good graphics are not required to make a massively popular game. Just saying.

I haven't read the review, but to be fair, the game does lag behind in pretty much every area besides the actual tactical goodness. Tutorial via manual is straight out of the 90s, multiplayer is the definition of barebones, all save games are thrown in one big folder, can't customize key config from within the game, no cancel button when ending turns, on and on. Just like the review summary says, the gameplay is there, but nothing else is. Still, 73% isn't that bad, plenty of my favorite games have been in the 70-79% range when it comes to reviews.

Ya Minecraft is insanely popular and has terrible graphics.

I can actually think of several very popular games that have mediocre graphics. (mostly indie stuff)

I think the issue is that it's wargaming, which is much more of a niche than games with worse graphics. And CMBN is without a doubt less "polished" than many mainstream games.

Really though, I take professional reviews with a massive grain of salt... usually it's much more helpful to read player reviews. All of my favorite games except for like 1 got reviews in the 70s-80s range funnily enough.

Professional reviewers place way too much emphasis on polish these days in my opinion, whereas many gamers less so.

It seems that creativity and polish are usually mutually exclusive.

Don't forget though that the old CMx1 games, especially CMBB got VERY high scores from mainstream publications. This was before the obsession with "polish" had fully set in IMO ;) (though CMBB was quite polished tbh)

And yes Yahtzee is great entertainment ;).

  5. This might be a stupid question but why didn't the rest of the allies just start copying the Garand to replace their bolt action rifles (or even Germany for that matter)?

Too big a shift for production? I'm not suggesting they could refit their entire army but it makes sense to me to shift production for every NEW rifle made to the new, pretty much superior in every way rifle.

Or same thing for the MG42 (allies steal the idea).

  6. Alright so I've started playing CMSF some more lately and I consistently get annoyed when I can't hit a hotkey for clear target... but the thing is, I don't see the option for it in the hotkeys txt file. I saw a "NOT USED" in the space where I suspected it would go (under target arc and target light), so I put "J" there for the key and launched the game.

Well sure enough the "J" key got assigned to "Clear target" in-game but it didn't actually *work*. When I hit J I get nothing.

I went back out and typed in clear target instead of "NOT USED" but still no dice.

I searched on the forums and people were saying it's not remappable from delete. Is this still true? A bit odd but oh well.

    thanks

  7. I would also like close combat to be simulated or abstracted but this is one of those things that BF will never add to CMx2. Sometimes I wish some super rich patron would come forth and fund expanded development for CMx2. That way we could possibly get some features that BF deems too rare/anecdotal to spend development time and money on. Also, maybe a full scale Eastern Front pack instead of only Bagration.

Haha wow what are the odds, someone else in Aiken playing CM :P

  8. I understand 7's is very popular in the US, since inclusion in hte Olympics & the US tournament has been going - I have a sister living in LA who goes along to that every year (so far - was easier for her when it was in LA!) & also to local college games.

god help the status quo if the USA does ever take it up "full time" in any sense of the word - all that money will "speak"!

It's getting pretty popular at universities thankfully.

My team lost the state championship by one point the year before I transferred :P. They won it the next. I was only a second-string wing but still had lots of fun. Our captain actually was getting looked at by some European professional teams at the time. He was a beast.

    Good times. Great sport.
