Been looking through this thread and the pictures of the map. It really is a beautiful work of art. You got to hand it to BF, the mission editor and map maker in particular really allow the artist to come out im many of us.

...Thanks for resurrecting this useful thread, Frankster. Maybe it should be stickied? (and some of the currently stickied threads in the various fora should probably be unstickied)
Hi LongLeftFlank, personally I think it should be stickied. I come back to it time after time when I get a brain fart regarding how this stuff operates.

Check the thread right below yours. I believe this is what you were looking for.

bump for reference again.

Hhmm...he shut it down due to "perceived shortcomings of rule sets." So in other words, there were some whiners and nitpickers having tantrums over his work. What a shame. It was a phenominal site which showed he obviously put a tremendous amount of work and creativity into it.
Just goes to show you there are always a few who got to ruin it for everybody else.

Well, at least Scimitars were upgraded. Russian army used BMP-1's in Chechnya, their 73 mm guns were useless.
So, no reply from BFC. They must be busy with CM:Normandy. Sad if this bug stay in the game.
Doesn't bother me one bit. The Bradleys work just fine in the game.

WEGO only. I like to think things through before giving my orders. I also like the fact that when you "hit" the next turn button and the game goes into real time mode, I cannot intervene but must watch and accept the outcome of that one minute of real time. For me that is like having the fog of war and I had better hope my tactics are sound.
I also love the playback utility. It is just plain fun to watch the action like it is a movie and be able to watch it from different angles.

Absolutely amazing work sir!

Very very nice. That was well done. It has been a long time since I played this game. I do miss it.
-
Nicely done sir.

I just took a look at your blog for the first time jnt62006. Very, very nice job. This will come in very handy for many people. Keep it coming sir.

So, did you read the instructions before you executed the file?

I would like to give thanks to the BF folks for not just NATO but the afghanistan module for me to play on my holiday off!
I agree. Thank you BF for just existing and producing these types of games for the computer. We've come a long way from the old Avalon Hill board games I used to play as a kid and because of you guys, now get to play in wonderful 3D...and I don't even have to shake the dice anymore!

Thanks Sergei. I forgot to mention that I did do a quick test in the mission editor using insurgent ATGM teams and could not replicate the graphic bug so the notion about using an old TO&E must indeed be correct.

I'm playing in a PBEM game in the CMSF base game in the scenario Al Amarah and during my last couple of turns when I was planning my moves I happened to glance down one of the streets where I had killed some insurgents earlier. I noticed that something looked a bit odd ... the dead insurgent was wearing full US Army kit!! I know I never had any troops down that way and I remember killing some insurgents in the street over there so they couldn't be my guys! When I clicked on the dead "soldier" it showed the picture of Insurgent Fighter but the body on the map continued to show up as a US Soldier. It's been like that for at least two turns. Does my opponent have insurgent infiltrators in his ranks ready to confuse my troops at any moment?
Unfortunately I can't seem to make a screen shot of it. When I tried to Print Screen and paste it into Paint it didn't work. I do have save files from my half of the turn. I do not know if my opponent sees the body as an insurgent or a US Army soldier like I do.
You are half right ASL Veteran. Those insurgents do have US uniforms on but I have no idea why? I saw that immedietly at set-up and figured it was a bug. I left them down at bottom of map, not intending to use them due to this but since your kicking my ass severely, I figured on seeing if I could confuse you and send them into battle. It looks like it did...to a degree. I actually have two units like this. The one you saw ASL Veteran and another insurgent team which are wearing Syrian Infantry uniforms. It has got to be a bug. Never seen this before myself.
Do you want me to send you the "save file" Normal Dude?

LOL...I'm really confused now. Going to have to re-read this thread in order to try and clarify things. All I want to do is resupply my sniper teams.
-
Been toying around with the Shilka in the editor. Found this video on youtube. Nice look at the Shilka. Thought I'd share it.
There is a lot of firepower there. I'd hate to be on the business end of that.

I've got a question for you guys...kind of simple and away from the point of this thread but I've been wondering about it...
When you send a sniper team into a vehicle to reload ammo, do you have the team "aquire" the 5.56mm or 7.62mm ammo? From my own very basic understanding, do not the standard infantry weapons today consist of 5.56mm? Does not the sniper today use a rifle which consist mainly of 7.62mm?
How do you pick in game which ammo to resupply the sniper team with?
-
This is so common to many mission creations - too little time (my personal bugbear - what is this obsession with limiting the scenario length?)
I couldn't agree more.
-
Looks like a lot of good ambush areas in there. Excellent screenshots. Looking forward to the scenario.
-
Sounds interesting. I'll be checking this out. I've been most interested in infantry only battles lately.
-
Did you mistakenly hit "Alt +S" anytime in the last day or two?
-
Actually...you may be right. The only thing you need "set-up" zones for is to provide the AI the ability for some random areas to set-up in. If you do not place the AI Groups set-up spot within a map set-up zone, they will only start from that particular spot time after time...no variation.
So...in other words, if you want set-up variation...place them to start in map set-up zones. If you don't want variation...place them anywhere.
