  1. Try the demos. ToW2 is definitely changed from ToW#1. What do you mean by 'wrecker'?
  2. Every little bit helps. Its been 12 months by my estimate since the 186.xx was superseded & this error introduced - about time it was fixed. BTW I'm using 9800 so it's looking pretty generic throughout the range of GPUs. Whole reason I dumped ATI was nvidias UDA, now it's biting me in the a** My other concern here is how are CM:N & future games going to be impacted....?
  3. I want to keep an a nvidia card because of physx. But if nvidia are going to sit on their hands then they need a push. It seems to me that if every nvidia using CMSF player added to the thread on their forum the issue would be continuously bumped up the board. Someone ought to take notice. How many CMSF players are out there & how many use nvidia? We could surely generate a few hundred posts even if it was just to say 'I have this problem too' It would also help to remind them how their stock has dived with a fallen sales forecast. Can they really afford to lose hundreds of users over this? Can anyone tell me how many people bought CMSF? Can that fact get us some leverage?
  4. In which case 'we' need to lean on nVidia. Only question is how best to do that - a petition online? Tactical nuke? I'm open to suggestions...
  5. If it affects the new addon & upcoming games, it's going to present problems for anyone using nvidia & current drivers. Someone needs to be leaned on....
  6. Decided to do a fresh install with 186.91 driver - CMSF back to normal. Fooled around with nHancer & got it looking how I wanted then advanced to 258.96 & after multiple attempts haven't found the magic combination which limited the area saturation of flashes. [This did give me an excuse to play for longer than usual tho ] Obviously there are a lot of combinations & it isn't going to be easy to find the magic formula. Could also be related to something else I had had installed I guess. Heres hoping for a patch.....
  7. Just wondering if the next CMSF patch will resolve the map-wide flashing that occurs on post 186.xx nvidia drivers?
  8. Thanks Bodkin. Having seen the whole map light up instead of just the local area it's a surprise nothing has been done about it. By anyone. I set up the profile in nHancer about 12 months ago - pre 190.x drivers I think. Given the fact that IIRC nVidia tweak the settings of each driver pack (there are a whole bunch of 'unused' settings in there), it should be reductively possible to compare these optimizations before & after 180.xx & then see which ones are in nHancer. I think I could roll back my driver install to a stable 197.xx or similar & then retest with nHancer & some profiles. It is of course quite time consuming but if I can see it all interacting again maybe I will recall what I did or near enough to make a difference. That said if I could grab a set of 180.xx from somewhere, just don't want to mess up the performance on other games ... Have also posted on nVidias site but who knows if they will take notice........
  9. There will be a high number of permutations......... What was the last driver that didn't give this map-wide flash effect? I'm wondering if it would be possible to compare the hidden settings in the 2 drivers & maybe find the one that has changed ... In the event we had version numbers we might be able to convince nVidia to do something with that as start point.
  10. I am now quite mystified.... I went to check the nHancer settings but couldn't open the main dialog, tho the service was still running, presumably along with the settings I had cooked up way back when. I decided to reinstall & eventually, as I then discovered the main prog won't launch at all, did a clean install with an earlier version that didn't have issues with the 258.x driver. nHancer had griped it couldn't use the profiles in the new driver but I had OK'd it as the thing still appeared to work using what I had previously set it at. Now it won't work... & my streets are full of muzzle flashing effects which weren't there before. As the nhancer install allows you to tweak all sorts of things I don't recall exactly what was done. I tried this (similiar to what I recall from my original tweaking) via nvcpl but hasn't made any difference to now very obvious flashing:- As I did a careful install of the driver (safe mode, driver sweeper; reboot to safe mode, del the Nvidia vga driver folder; reboot & fresh install) I can only assume that something I had tweaked via nHancer had remained until I did my full uninstall & a reg sweep. Guessing it must be a registry tweak that was critical but have no way of finding out what combo it was. Now I'm annoyed I did that clean install! BTW this is on an old 9800GT 1gb & x64 OS.
  11. I grabbed the ToW #1 Steam version as a bargain way to do some fighting in White Russia. Having not tried the JSH mods past 1.2.x on the original Kalypso copy I had, I was pleasantly surprised to find that JSH 1.3.5 works perfectly on the Steam copy & having never got around to this masterwork - Bulldogs - I decided to give it a try. Just finished the 1st battle & everything went along perfectly (Except my performance of course). Just wanted to say how great it is to see a fan built campaign of this calibre. & I'm very pleased it works with the Steam release! Made me wonder if one could import the maps & units into the ToW2 environment. If the mods req'd weren't too great it could be a fast way of generating an improved campaign with the newer software capabilities. That said I shall be playing with this for quite a while on ToW#1. Thanks Gnasher.
  12. I'm using that driver & am not having strobing effects. FYI I used Driver Sweeper prior to install. & am also using nHancer & I tweaked the AA & ansio upwards. Maybe this has made a difference.
  13. Thought I'd try a steam related post - tried the JSH mod on the steam version & it's all working fine - has improved the playability no-end. linked here
  14. Sounds like we're on the same page ................& still off topic!
  15. I was referring to Command and Conquer as an example of how to ruin a program which has such an important legacy in RTS -not a wargame per se - but important in the development of wargames as software I think (Dune II was a eureka moment in PC games). Take out the core strategy which made it such a success & blitz it with invasive DRM. In ref to your 'hit game' suggestion I also mentioned the game like a Close Combat 3d GI Combat Took me a while to recall that name & find that review....! - IIRC Atomic games programmers did a 3d version of the first CC & the unwieldy camera pretty much killed it. Did you ever see that? It was quite a while back. Maybe someone needs to do a 'remake' of that with all the necessary fixes & upgrades... Now were waaaay off-topic...!
  16. I am looking forward to the extra campaigns once I remember how to play this game! It's a good game on many levels, trigger issues notwithstanding. A little dated compared to the current offerings graphically etc but it's certainly a milestone title in PC wargames for me. 1C managed to capture the spirit of Russian weather with their work I think. Big factor in those real-life campaigns & helps with player immersion. Conceptually this series is a positive take on the classic Close Combat series which I really enjoyed. (Pity the 3rd incarnation had such bad camera control.) & as an aside/rant BFC+steam - I really hope not. I dislike having several 3rd parties involved in me simply wanting to play a game. BFCs off-line elicence ensures I don't have to worry about phone lines or vendor servers whenever I click an icon for solo play. (& thats before we get to dubious power supply companies, poor driver support & buggy OS's etc ) A flash front-end doesn't (& hasn't) guaranteed performance but it does attract customers. [i wouldn't have used steam if there had been a price-match here.] As it is, I will hazard a small sum on a bargain like this. Hopefully a 100% reliance on 3rd party vendors will remain unnecessary for BFCs continued revenue & survival. When CM:N appears I hope its the regular BFC setup that I can trust to be flexible & not nonsense like the last C&C became...!
  17. Decided to grab ToW #1 (despite having it already) as I think of the price as being for the expansion alone. As you say - good value. Really don't like steam tho. BFC's e-License is far from that bloat-ware. Wonder what will happen to BFCs profit margin with Steam prices tho!! Did remind me of the first time I played the Polish campaign & didn't know about the event triggers being so picky. I eventually completed a mission with some smoking wrecks & a couple of soldiers left. A while later I found that if I had advanced a few more meters I would have got reinforcements.... I'd spent the day trying with only the initial force....
  18. Good to know - I better take a look over there...!
  19. Sneaksie Is there any info on what will be addressed / included in this patch you are working on? Thanks
  20. Good to know as I would like to play the Belorussian campaign.
  21. Seems to be a move by 1C rather than BFC, they are also using Gamersgate. I personally do not like Steam at all, but the price of the complete TOW package is very attractive. However it doesn't appear to have the mission pack for ToW #1. That is a bit of a shame as this would otherwise make a good collection purchase for those without the series.
  22. Whilst I suspect BF.com is not playing the FX markets this question of exchange rates did raise an interesting set of data. If ToW2 Kursk is bought from BF direct as a download it costs under £31 at todays rates. If bought from gamersgate it will be £34.95. The also mentioned [Non-BF product] Ukrainian APK 1943 will cost US$19-99 or £14.95 in sterling So it's quite clear you get shafted in the UK wherever/whoever the product is from & moreover BF offers a better deal. A quick comparison on other titles yields similar results.
  23. Whatever you changed, its worked for me now - almost instant response. Thanks for sorting it out!
  24. Some 24 hours in I haven't had anything for my customer account. I have a fair bit of access/control over this particular email address as it is part of a domain I 'own'. As I can edit the white-list & blacklist, I have entered battlefront.com & www.battlefront.com in the white-list in the hope it will allow any msg sent to 'arrive'. Now I have to wait & see...
