  1. The Reporting from Ukraine (RfK) channel is saying that the Russians call the Ukrainian heavy "assault" drones Baba Yaga and dislike them so much they try to use their own drones to crash into them. An example is shown at 3:08 in the following video (it's from a Russian source so I couldn't find the original). The problem with this is that they would never know if it worked or not - RfK says usually not.
  2. This video from the 53rd shows some ground level views of the area to the south of Avdiivka as they do a tour of taken Russian positions. From about 21 min they show views across wide open fields to the coke plant and slag heap (Terrikon). Unfortunately the closed captions are not good.
  3. This was in Amsterdam and referencing Israel and Gaza. What has it got to do with Ukraine? Given your wording, it sounds like you are just trying to shoehorn a personal bugbear.
  4. Russia deployed all available reserves, military expert says - https://english.nv.ua/nation/russia-deployed-all-available-reserves-military-expert-says-50367158.html
  5. Yeah, the obvious design limitation was that it had to fit on a landing craft.
  6. A long, recent and good interview with Lt General Ben Hodges that seems appropriate given the current discussions on stalemate in Ukraine. Check the chapters for topics covered.
  7. The first report I saw said it was HIMARS. I'm guessing the small arms sound is ammo going off in burning vehicles, of which there were a few.
  8. A recent and interesting interview with Illia Vitiuk, the head of the cyber department at Ukraine's top counterintelligence agency. The cyber war doesn't get covered as much here but I think awhile ago there was a short discussion after someone asked about it. Meet the man leading the front-line effort in Ukraine's cyber war with Russia - https://www.npr.org/2023/09/06/1196975759/ukraine-cyber-war-russia-sbu-illia-vitiuk A recent example of a claimed hack: Ukrainian hackers and intel officers partner up in apparent hack of a top Russian bank - https://www.npr.org/2023/10/25/1208352887/ukraine-russia-bank-hack
  9. Minister: Ukraine to produce tens of thousands of drones per month by year's end - https://kyivindependent.com/minister-ukraine-to-produce-tens-of-thousands-of-drones-per-month-by-years-end/
  10. Obviously not going to meet all Ukraine's needs, but just to note that France is going to increase their supply of 155mm ammo to Ukraine from the start of next year. The article also notes that the cost of production of artillery ammo has been increasing, possibly because of the demand. France begins supplying Ukraine with 3,000 155mm shells monthly - https://bulgarianmilitary.com/2023/10/16/france-begins-supplying-ukraine-with-3000-155mm-shells-monthly/
  11. Maybe we will see. The Russians are at it again The Facebook page this came from says it is today:
  12. After all the drone videos, some old-fashioned bravery doing things the old-fashioned way
  13. The Ukrainian SOF has posted info on the operation and named it, so it was a missile attack or...? Full Google translate of the SFO Telegram post
  14. It's low cost and not without precedent, just need a few more.
  15. The ISW touched on this a few weeks ago ( https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-september-24-2023 )
  16. So you can use artillery to destroy minefields...it just depends on the density.
  17. These are a bit older (July) but this one on Maryinka might fit the bill - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yec-NG0CM8E&t=1449s Or possibly also this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bZ8Lcf6wKY
  18. They couldn't wait because of the state of the Russian forces that had been gathered on the border for months. It was either go or pull back for refitting for however long that would take, which would have been a bad look given Putin's standoff with the west. From reports of some Russians themselves, the forces on the 22nd were already not up to the task in some places.
  19. A documentary on Mariupol is set to be released. It couldn't be more timely given the media's attention on "cracks" in Western support for Ukraine.
  20. A Ukrainian tanker who is having serious mechanical problems with his captured T72B3 phones and trolls Uralvagonzavod tech support
  21. A new post by Mick Ryan, who is visiting Ukraine again. He is there to research "the institutional elements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces - those strategic capabilities that enable a military to fight a war, not just battles and campaigns" - https://mickryan.substack.com/p/exploring-the-ukrainian-way-of-war
  22. Slovakia on 30th September is a close run race and the result could affect their position on Ukraine.
  23. Russians even have their own word for it that is not easily translated, toska (тоска). It encompasses more than just misery or melancholy and is considered by some a core part of Russian identity.
