  1. One thing i wish to see in the future are on screen messages - time or objective triggered - as the code is already there (reinforcement messages) I am wondering why this was not implemented yet.

E.g. the briefing tells you that reinforcements will arrive in 10 minutes but after 10 minutes you get the message that the reinforcements could not make it. Or you have to capture village A and then you will get further orders.

This would be a great feature for tutorials and training missions as well.

It would not only provide a more dynamic game experience but also increase usability.

  2. Map designer for years have been using modular buildings, uh, modularly. 2-3-4 building elements with internal walls/doors representing separate rooms. Years ago I threw together a Texas shopping mall scenario for CMSF that I vaguely recall used 80(?) modular elements representing an anchor store and upscale mall next to a freeway. Entering the mall was suicide. :)

I know but it looks silly with the bn roofs. I played umlauts amazing urban map against my brother and the biggest problem was, that if you enter a building the soldier will automatically move to the opposing wall and get immediately under fire.

In my old close combat days it was a common tactic to deploy the squads behind the houses if you intended to defend them.

I once tried this tactic in CMSF and it did not work so well.

Edit: Just tried this tactic again and the defenders behind the house tactic does indeed work. there must have been some code change since CMSF

  3. I am really looking forward to this. No more aircraft micromanagment. Imagine the prelude of a battle where 20 or more Aircraft attack on their own initiative targets throughout the whole map. Then after 15 Minutes your troops will arrive on the map.

I once built a map for the unfinished japanese mod and the biggest pain in the ass was to give target areas for all of the 20 aircrafts in the beginning of the mission. Maybe when this feature will be implemented in CMBN I will finish the map.

  4. What me stopped from making scenarios was RL. I cannot afford the time to make a proper scenario. Every time I made a scenario or starting to do so i felt guilty investing so much time for a game. BTW I do not have the time to play CM either. It takes to much time to get immersed and due to micromanaging it still feels more like work than a game. But I love the game and how it evolves.

To biggest problem for me is doing the briefing. The process should be more straight-forward IMO. I want to upload the pictures in the scenario editor and edit them there. There should be symbols and arrows to apply on the pictures. And it would be great to write the briefing text inside the scenario editor.

Also placing flavor objects and buildings in 3D view would be a big step forward as bigger scenarios always take a lot of time to load on my machine.

  5. Wow great!

I do not think we will be over-challenged with the triggers as there are games like ARMA or the good old Sudden Strike and their mission editors were much more complicated.

One question: Can reinforcements also be triggered by objectives?

  6. Just finished the chapter about Crete in the book and I think Crete would be a great CM campaign.

I am wondering about two things how could the CW forces loose despite their overwhelming manpower and how could they manage to retreat southwards without being discovered by german planes.

  7. In other words, it's entirely baseless speculation.

I reread the metacritics thread and found out that these 'rumors' were maybe only in my own mind. I misinterpreted Steve's statements and did overlooked that he clearly points out that a bulge base game will be released 2014 or 2015.

For those who are playing Crete battles - are there some scenarios for download?

  8. I don't recall seeing any such hint by any one who works for Battlefront or any Beta tester (who wouldn't dare hint anyway) about such a change. Can you find us such a post ?

I was sure that I read a post in connection with the Buldge game that plans could change. did a forum search but could not find the post, so maybe it was only speculation by someone non official.

  9. dont believe everything you read http://www.mourningtheancient.com/truth.htm

Maybe I am missing your point but if you could read the book (it is in german btw) you would know what I mean. It becomes obvious when the author is writing about the Maori for example. He calls them brown wild devils but also admires that they are very disciplined and good sharpshooters. It is clear that his thinking is influenced by the rassist ideas which where very common in the first half of the 20th century not only in Germany.

For someone like me who was born in Europe in the late 20th century stuff like this sounds very awkward.

But back on topic: Yes I understand that there are differences between 1941 and 1943 but people are talking about a NA module as well and there are "rumors" that bf will change plans and cmbn will stay the base game for the whole western front.

I do not think BF will make a whole knew game only about Crete. Also the Balkans as a knew game family with a Crete module are not very sexy IMO. Maybe we will see a NA game with a Crete module in the future.
