  1. First of all I would like to say thank you to Dr. Jones for the free use of his extractor. I got brave enough a while back and E-mailed him with a request for the tool and he sent me a copy, thanks again mate. However, I'm having some problems emplementing the software. I will use the wording in the readme. "Download the SFSExtractor.rar, extract the whole content into MissionEditor directory where Theatre of War is installed (password is 1234). If there was not yet created the Config.xml file, the content of the extractor is empty." No issues extracting to the correct file but I'm lost on the Config.xml file. Do I need some type of XML software to create this folder if in fact it is a folder or do I edit something in the extraction itself? "In this xml file is stored the MissionEditor location as sfsPath, and where to extract the data as ExtractDir." Obviously my file path is not \Users\Ales but I'm confused gents. I could prod and poke around for months on this seeing as I'm not savey in this particular aspect of computers. I'm lost man and not afraid to admit it. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Salute, ShiftZ.

  3. Not so much Gem as Diamond in the ruff, that's how I'd put it. Playing this type of game on a 8' by 8' table is much better but most people are fat and lazy so sitting on your ass ans punching keybords is much eaiser but way wicked to program. ToW rocks...once those gents at 1C quit thier day jobs all will be well.
  4. Alreet, I throw down the gauntlet. I'll kik anyones arse at this game. Name time and place. ShiftZ reporting, AKA...ToW God. [ June 01, 2007, 11:37 PM: Message edited by: ShiftZ ]
  5. Salute Webwing!! Those videos opend up some doors. It's almost done mastercam style lol. You know, I really can't wait for that map editor. Before they shut the lights on ToW my goal is a complete conversion of this game to modern warfare as it may have happend in 1982. Of course massive re skinning and math will have to be done but it can be done. Great videos man, can't wait to see what you do with the map stuff. BTW I second the motion that these tutorials should be up on the BF website, think about it, he did on his own. Give credit where credit is due. Salute.
  6. seems the latter refers to the already mentioned shaped-charge Granate 38 or Gr. 38 Hl/A fired by the L24 guns. </font>
  7. On 26 May 1942 the General der Schnellen Truppen beim Oberkommando des Heeres distributed the following "Instructions to units on the Eastern Front for Combating the Russian T-34 Tank with our Panzers" (cited from T.Jentz "Panzertruppen"): "Characteristics of the T34. The T-34 is faster, more maneuverable, has better cross-country mobility than our Pz.Kpfw.lll and IV. Its armor is stronger. The penetrating ability of its 7.62 cm cannon is superior to our 5 cm KwK. and the 7.5 cm KwK40. The favorable form of sloping all of the armor plates aids in causing the shells to skid off. Combating the T-34 with the 5 cm KwK tank gun is possible only at short ranges from the flank or rear, where it is important to achieve a hit as perpendicular to the surface as possible. Hits on the turret ring, even with high-explosive shells or machine gun bullets, usually result in jamming the turret. In addition, armor-piercing shells fired at close range that hit the gun mantle result in penetrations and breaking open the weld seams. The T-34 can be penetrated at ranges up to 1000 metres with the 7.5 cm PaK 40 as well as the 7.5 cm Hohlgranate (hollow-charge shells) Russian Tank Tactics. In defense and covering a retreat, the T-34 with the turret at six o'clock is often dug in on a commanding height along a road or on the edge of woods or villages. Then after surprisingly opening fire from ambush, the T-34 can be driven out of the concealed position still under cover. In correctly recognizing his technical superiority in weapons, the T-34 already opens fire on German Panzers at ranges from 1200 to 1800 metres. Because the T-34 is faster than the German Panzers, he can choose the range for a firefight. Our Panzer Tactics. Because the 5 cm KwK can only be expected to penetrate the flanks of the T34 at short range, the following tactics have proven been to be correct in combating them: a. Attract and tie down the opponent frontally by having a Pz.Kpfw.III take up the firefight. Choose a hull down position or drive in a zig-zag course to make it difficult for the opponent to hit the target. b. At the same time, utilizing all available cover, two other Pz.Kpfw.llls attempt to circumvent the T34 to the right or left in order to gain a position in the flank or in the rear and knock him out at short range with PzGr40 fired at the hull or rear. c. If a Pz.Kpfw.lV is available among our own Panzers, it is to be employed in front of the opponent. The use of Nebelgranaten (smoke shells) can blind the T-34 or aid the other Panzers in closing in. It is also possible that the opponent will think that the smoke is poison gas and break off the action. When encountering numerically superior enemy tanks (T-34 and KV), success has always resulted when our Panzer unit builds a fire front and overwhelms the enemy with fire. Even when no penetrations can be achieved, the enemy, impressed by the accuracy and rate of fire of the German Panzers, almost always breaks off the action.
  8. Hey guys, repair units sound good? I don't know about you but I'm getting tired of losing the main gun on tanks especialy the gun tractors.
  9. All I'm asking for Christmas is repair units. P.S. Matt I still haven't recieved my recipt of purchase for the downloaded game and mail delivery of DVD and manual. My CC statement will show it but BF never sent anything for my records. [ May 06, 2007, 10:33 AM: Message edited by: ShiftZ ]
  10. Ok sounds good Moon. Will the map editor allow for MP? Or will we have to mail the files to each other? Better yet, how about alowing for those of us who make a map to be able to upload to a site that others can download from. This should be nice, make a map, figure out the scripts etc (like I can haha) and see what happens.
  11. Regarding Patch: I'm happy to report no problems whatsoever. The game is playing perfect on my system. I just spent the weekend enjoying MP with a friend who owns a laptop and he's haveing no issues either. I do however have some suggestions for the "big" patch. Can you make it possible with the editor to create maps? I'm green with the editor so I may be missing something but it seems that all I can do is use maps already created. For MP, is there some way that a points system can be used? Eg; A map is selected, all parties get 5000 points or whatever and can pick what they want. They then get to "set" those selections on the map in a restricted zone of influence. Once all players have finished placing thier pieces the game begins. Use of air strikes, tank traps, mine fields and "off board" arty would be nice along with recovery/repair vehicles. Salute, ShiftZ [ May 01, 2007, 06:06 AM: Message edited by: ShiftZ ]
  12. Hello all. I'm new to this fourm so let me introduce myself a little. I've been playing war games in one form or another for more then 25 years. Way back then you didn't have computers to display stick graphics let alone war games, that was in the realm of movies etc. My friends and I used to play this awesome board game developed by the Canadian military and I'm sure almost every country does the same thing. We would take two eight foot by three foot tables, slide them together and create miniture landscapes on it out of blankets, socks, whatever. Using little lead pieces to represent tanks, solders, apc's, aircraft we would then get into day's long battles using the real life capablitties of the various piecies to fight it out. We took everything that we could think of into account. Ammount of smoke fired on tanks, rounds left, weather, line of sight, damage. We even used "nuke and pypass" depending on how large the theatre was. Dice were used to calculate everything, hit precentages, hits, damage, all of it. You could only move so far, you could only see so far, your artillary wasn't accurate the first salvo. We would get buzzed, get into the game and dream about a day you could play a game like that on a computer and what if you could play it with a bud while he was on another computer. I guess that day is here. This game is going to flippin' rock n roll. I've read on other posts around here from some gents about how the graphics aren't good enough or the camera isn't good enough or this or that. LMFAO. You just wait. The game plays spectacular right out of the box. Take it from me because I've played most of em out there and a lot of em online. All the Total war stuff, Battlefield stuff, fighter sims, navy sims, Nintendo, playstation, almost everything on boards or computers and none of those games lived upto that game I played way back in 1983. Theatre of War lives upto that game. Yes there will be patches and bug fixes and mods but it will all help to entrench a game and make it a legend over time. Salute, btw when's the modification for modern warfare comin' out??? Just jokin' lol. (That better?) [ April 21, 2007, 12:00 PM: Message edited by: ShiftZ ]
