  1. I am playing my first pbem game which is also pretty much my first turned based game. When I first load the turn I get the Review Phase. Press Escape and watch the action. Now the facepalm question. Is there a way to replay the Review Phase a second or third time without reloading the saved game each time? If you have various things happening that you want to watch closely it takes more than one look at the Review Phase.
  2. Thanks guys. When I play I usually play real time and don't set string of commands. Went through the manual but this nuance was not covered. They probably thought it too obvious. Oh, Stele, during the last turn your Tiger cleared his throat.
  3. Thanks JRMC1879, simple enough, I was trying to add another after selecting the last waypoint. And iMolestCats, yes I bet you do.
  4. Please excuse me if this has been asked, I couldn't find anything specific. Is there any way to add waypoints to existing uncompleted waypoints in the next turn? I am playing a PBEM game. At the end of the first turn all I want to do is continue with adding waypoints to units with existing waypoints. The only way I can see to do this is to delete existing all existing waypoints, then reenter them so I can then extend to more waypoints. This seems like a pretty basic concept to me, I must be missing something. Thanks for any ideas.
  5. I have a question that is sort of along these lines and didn't want to start another thread. I am new to the mods in this game. Are there any "mod packs" that combine some of the best mods into one group for easy install versus the one mod at a time install? A good example would be all the Aris mods together.
  6. This is my first Combat Mission game. I previously played the original Theater of War. Frankly, this is a nice step up from ToW. The troops seem to act more intelligently with less individual attention. The graphics are about on par and the sound is superb. The interface is very good. The only downside is scrolling around the map. For some reason it just doesn't come naturally. ToW had its issues in this regard also. The best line from the manual so far is, "Sometimes, heavy explosives, applied lovingly, really do solve problems." Thanks for the great game. Looking forward to updates and expansions.
  7. Here's a wierd thing that happened in the battle that pits the cromwells against 3 tigers. Basically I disabled one or two but all my tanks were taken out. The wierd part however is the game ended after only several minutes and gave the victory to me. Very strange.
  8. LOS fine, no stop fire order issued, picked out individual soldiers to fire at, tried defend command, nothing worked. Played on medium level.
  9. I just finished Escaping the Pocket in the German Campaign. At one point there were a handfull of Shermans advancing with infantry. I had a Panther and 2 MarkIVs facing them. I took out or disabled the tanks. The infantry, about 30, kept advancing across an open field of 200 yards into my tanks at a full run. 2 of my tanks were at the further end and had excellent field of fire. The last tank was on their flank, again with an excellent field of fire. Instead of the total massacre that it should have been, none of my tanks killed even one soldier. They continued their advance. I had to retreat or be overrun. The 2 MarkIVs were disbaled by the infantry as they retreated. The Panther made it. Facing soldiers like that it is no wonder the Germans wanted out of the pocket!
  10. Other than a rare random freezeup problem I mention in another post (which existed previously), I think the patch makes the game much more enjoyable. I am only playing in the middle difficulty level. Sometimes the soldiers do dumb things and die as a result but I write this off to not all of them being seasoned veterans. On the whole I am very please with the changes and look forward to the add on.
  11. I am playing the game in Single Player mode only at this time. I tried using dual cpu mode but found it sluggish, went back to single cpu and it is much better. Just to make sure it is clear this is not a system lockup, only a game freeze. In fact, I still hear game sounds like the battle is continuing but nothing is moving and in game controls do not work.
  12. In the middle of the Lehr campaign, after fighting about 40 minutes the game froze. The computer was not locked up, just the game. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, though I didn't see a post for it. I have it set to run on 1 CPU. My equipment is as follows: System Info: Windows XP Professional SP2 AMD 4400+ X2 (Not OCed) Mobo: ASUS A8N-E nForce4 Ultra RAM: 2GB (4X512) Kingston DDR400 Dual Channel 3-3-3-8 HD: WD 74GB SATA 10000 RPM Video: BFG GeForce 7800GTX Audio: Audigy 2 Power: Antec TruePower550
  13. lol ShiftZ... then again had you started back at the patch announcement you could have changed to hours...then days...then weeks...then months.
  14. This thread is encouraging. When I started playing, I too thought the game was too difficult. After sticking to it I am able to beat most scenarios on the hardest level. The problem is with no withdrawal command the fighting to the last man just to move the campaign along is unrealistic and gets boring. As mentioned at least a hundred times, it also needs an easy mission generator (Sid Meier's Gettyburg for example) I have since put the game on the back burner until some of the new enhancements mentioned in here are implemented. I think this could easily be a classic and set the bar for future games.
  15. It doesn't have to be an entire battle, just as ToW does not include the entire battle of any of its campaigns. With pre-WWI it wouldn't have to handle tank computations. In fact, all the weapon systems are simpler. What would need to be added are the various infantry formations (no great shakes), cavalry (trickiest of all) and bettter hand to hand (which is needed in ToW anyway).
  16. OK, maybe I am niave, but with the larger maps and more accurate weapons distances portayed in ToW, I can't help but think how this engine could be utilized for other non-World War II battles. What about Napoleonic Wars, American Civil War, or even World War I just to mention a few? Can you imagine a cavalry charge? or 12 pounders firing on an advancing line of infantry? As they refine this game, I can imagine a whole line of ToW products for other wars.
  17. Many, many great ideas posted so far. All I can add: A categorized determination of victory. Possibly: Major Victory, Minor Victory, Stalemate, Minor Defeat, Major Defeat. This would be based on a new, more complex calculation of the final statistics of objectives held, forces remaining and casualties. At the end of each battle there should be a complete statisical section with summaries of what you started with, lost, etc. that you can drill through to the individual soldiers. Maybe with the ability to save the stats to a separate file. And what about final campaign statistics. All the info is there for each battle, just save it until the end of the campaign to see those totals. Wouldn't it be interesting to see if an individual soldier makes it and what he accomplished?
  18. OK, the first thing I will admit is that I am not an expert. I have played all campaigns in the first release and 2 since the latest update. I have been playing in the middle mode with morale on. I like the latest version but have concerns over the victory conditions. Something seems amiss when you end with a kill ratio of 3 to 1 in infantry and 2 to 1 in armor, have taken 2 out of 3 locations and have positions at or near the third and except for 1 immobilized enemy tank near the last victory location (which of course there is no way to take it out without losing your forces trying) and the mission is deemed a defeat as a result. In my estimation if I were able to end the game appropriately (without killing off my troops to move to the next mission) I wouldn't lose all forces and this would be a minor victory or at least a stalemate. The game needs an End Game that is allowed after a certain point that computes the actual losses and victory locations held and gives a more scientific determination of type of victory, stalemate or defeat, not solely based on victory locations held. (Also the final stat tallies should show the total numbers of each type of force, those lost, those remaining and a percentage). Sorry if this is the same old complaint.
