  1. Well, now that you mention it, way back when on Dead Gulch, we were playing objective so I flew under the objective bridge in extremely close proximity and just started racking up points. Pretty fun. Out of pure curiosity, does anyone have some recommendations for picture-taking in Linux? I can't really brag without screenshots!
  2. And, though I apologize for the double post, Chaos6 and I had a great one-on-one a few days ago. I was supposed to be playing StellarRat, but we apparently got on at differing times, so Chaos and I had the whole 2 games to ourselves. On Twin Peaks, our fight was truly intense, with waves of bots and turrets and madcap blasting. If all our games are like this, we should definitely get as many people as possible for the tournament.
  3. I'm all for a one-on-one Viper match, but how exactly would that work? Do you maneuver until you grab the opponent with your cable? That would take a ton of skill. Time to get back into Viper shape, as I'm really truly rusty. [ August 08, 2007, 06:50 PM: Message edited by: Phonan ]
  4. If there's any problem at all in the XML for any file, the game won't load. It will crash when it gets to the file with the problem in the XML. I suggest either searching for the problem or trying to use the provided XML schemas to do it. (The schema to use is listed at the top of the XML document.)
  5. And one of us saves it as a COB? Sounds good. Just post us a link.
  6. Oops. I mean TrueSpace COB. If you don't have that option, make sure you can run and are running the latest version of Blender.
  7. Don't know if this is what you've been trying, but go to import, then Wavefront COB. Then locate the file, and click Import.
  8. Strange, because "L" is the key that one is supposed to use. I don't know of any other tool to "hold" the brake. A couple of ideas: try remapping the hold brake key in the controls Tab, or press the key sequence that follows. Hold X, press enter, let go of X, press enter again. That might work, but it may not. Hope it helps. And as to the Viper, several months was a huge exaggeration. Of course, one can always get better!
  9. Hello jby. A post at almost the exact same time! And the Viper is easy to control if one is willing to put several months into learning how to fly it.
  10. Most of that sort of thing isn't in the game; they were very nice ideas, though. The only real aerial scout is a Viper, though some of the modders have toyed around quite a while with the idea of a super-high flying hovercraft. Unfortunately, your stability decreases in direct proportion with your height. However, some new recon might really contribute well. A sensor mast would be interesting, as would a "sensor mission" like fire or smoke missions.
  11. We really had some nice games; I'm sorry that I missed whenever you got on. Chaos6 and I had a couple good games. First was Haven which was completely unfair as I started out by stealing the flag before Chaos arrived. The second match, on Twin Peaks, was hectic. I tried covering the entire map with AA and mining off the deployment zone. When his troops broke out, though, my base was very poorly defended, so it was just vehicle to vehicle combat like crazy for about 10-15 minutes straight. I'll do a couple of proper AAR's on our matches in a while.
  12. All those maps sound good to me. Sorry, I didn't think about how we'd need 16 players. With a bit of luck we might be able to do it.
  13. Sounds good. I'll try to be on. Anyone else feel like playing?
  14. Feel like setting a specific time? I'm fairly certain I'll be able to get on. I'm not one of the super veterans, but how does about 9:30 Eastern US time sound?
  15. My apologies if this is rather off topic, but while we're discussing video cards, is the video card what Hi-Def Rendering relies on? And if so, is the effect really worth updating the card (which I've been thinking about a while?) Thanks for any help.
  16. To start playing online: 1- Have a working Internet connection 2- When you start up the game, click the "Register New Account" button. 3- Fill in your Product Key, along with the username and password you want. 4- When you've registered your account, enter your username and password in the opening screen box. 5- Go to the "Network" tab and click the "Refresh" button. 6-Find a server to play on, click it, and select "Join Game." The map should load and you'll be playing online. Delta Pavonis is the main server for the full game. Creature Zoo is main modded server. You of course need to download the mod here. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask anyone on the forums. See you online!
  17. I really like this idea, jby, but I think that we might want to do more people and have a group consensus on a map that all people play on. Either that or we decide on a different map for quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, etc. The reason I suggested more players is the "inevitable goonrush" mentioned in one of the more recent threads. I'm sure lots of people would like to try their hands at it. By the way, I'll give it a shot, though any of you bot wranglers will slay me in a second, as will anyone who puts up more than 2 anti-Viper defenses. I'll also need to wait until I get a two-button mouse for my Linux box, so I'll be a while in coming.
  18. So are we experiencing an epic battle on Sunday at the usual time? If so I'm looking forward to it.

I think you both have a point. A key combination or command in the Ctrl-N menu for "don't use jets" would be very useful. I liked that music too, by the way. What was it?
  20. Poesel, here's the Shrike with ATGs. You can mod it however you like; I just put in 3 ATGs with spread and threw it up here. I've added a tracer to the ATGs for fun, and I upped the speed from 200 to 1000. You still can't do too much from range with the spread, but if you want to lower the speed anyway, feel free. Once I added tracers, the arc you got when firing it at distance was a bit strange. As to what I think it needs: a new turret might work. Anyone with free time could throw in a new tracer as opposed to the old one everyone sees all the time. But the rough version is, once again, here. Triple post, my apologies.
  21. And also, should we add some sort of graphic for the ATGs it fires? Just out of pure curiosity; it'd be simple enough. Sorry for the double post.
  22. Ye gods, the Shrike is stabler now! I'd like to give ATGs or even multi-fire shotgun-style ATGs a try, but I'm working on getting Dropteam installed on my Linux system right now. I'll be on it as soon as I can.
  23. Of course, you realize that now the folks from Something Awful are the Upstarts and we're the old fogies. How times change. Welcome to the game everybody. Play with the Viper. It's the best. Also many thanks for: a) Breathing new life into the game (and forum) Having so many suggestions that I'm inspired to start playing again. Looking forward to seeing you guys on the battlefield!
  24. I've been thinking about doing this with the Shrike; I can give it a shot. It seems that AT Grenades work pretty well on a Shrike; with the new stabilization, this may work even better.
