  1. When I did the TO&E I told BF that BDRMs should be armed with AT-3s and AT-5s and that both models should be placed in game Was the AT-5 model not included? If not I will suggest it There was alot of data I gave to Steve and errors and ommisions are to be expected It is also interesting to note that until 88-89 Syria used some models armed with AT-1 and AT-2 missles
  2. For the types of wars America is fidning itself in, the Stryker concept is excellent. And so far is getting high reviews As for the Russians not liking it Well I am sure all those poor souls incenerated in the charred wrecks of BMPs would have probably enjoyed the concept
  3. Only one T-55 type carries AT-10 missles That might be the problem Which version of the T-55 are you refering too? As a quick rule of thumb, if a Syrian tank is covered in ERA cells (they look like ceramic blocks on the tanks armour) then it probably carries AT missles Not always the case but in most cases
  4. This is not a tactical tip per se since you have no control over when these are fired (but being stationary and long range helps) But certain Syrian tanks are capable of firing advanced laser guided ATGMs The AT-10, AT-11 and AT-12 are all long range threats against any US vehicle In fact they are much better than the tanks main gun And for the T-55 (firing the AT-10) and T-62 (AT-12) they are probably the only way to ensure damage to an Abrams at long range Syrian tactics are not to mix it up at long rage, but if you are on a map or for some reason dont have a covered path to get in close with your tanks You might find if you can get the drop on US vehicles and can fire first that you can destroy an Abrams even frontaly with a ATGM But being a laser guided missle you must ensure you mantain laser lock on the target for the duration of the missles flight. But thankfully all three missles are very fast and accuracy is excellent. So when you have some of the more modern Syrian tanks Keep in mind that if you have too, you have a valid weapon against US vehicles And in fact you even have a shot at outright destroying a Abrams with a frontal hit Very powerful missles indeed I have had much sucess with them but also have a entire platoon of tanks blasted apart in seconds trying to mix it up from long range One of the more risk/reward tactics in the game [ August 03, 2007, 11:15 PM: Message edited by: rudel.dietrich ]
  5. This is what I was talking about The RPG-7 is of course a HEAT based round So everything I said about armour thickness goes out the window because the armour has a completly different rating against HEAT weapons Abrams armour is a composite materials and not every layer is uniform thickness all the way around the tank So that means while the steel layer may be 100mm (just to pull a number out of thin air) the RHA layer may only be 50mm and thus have a completly different rating against HEAT weapons Its a extremly complex matter

  8. Almost every modern battle rifle can penetrate most modern building materials up to and including single layer brick walls and cinder block And a 12.7mm round can tear thorugh a single layer brick wall and several interior walls before it expends all its energy Being in a building does offer cover but buildings are not fortresses In fact in some ways its more dangerous to be in a building since when rounds start tearing into the walls they tend to create alot of flying building materials which do not react well to human skin And there have been many many studies which show that since WW2 less rounds are killing and wounding more soldiers on the modern battlefield Better weapons and much better training are leading to never before seen accuracy Even todays American national guard units can probably shoot with much greater accuracy than did their WW2 grandfathers In my years in the army and my current job I have fired probably over 100,000 rounds of ammunition from over 300 different weapons and I must say that CMSF does a very nice job of modeling small arms fire. And I think it is the first game to represent that buildings are not bulletproof When you begin peppering a building exterior with .50 cal rounds you can only imagine the number of high velocity fragments tearing apart anything in the interior rooms
  9. Side hull armour on a M1A2 is only about 1/5 as thick as the front hull armour The side turret armour is only about 1/3 as thick

  12. I dont really understand the bad karma that surrounds IEDs To me they are in the exact same class as land mines
  13. Vehicles in the game are using the 'wrong' ammo for targets If you look closely BMP2 are using 30mm HE ammo on armoured targets instead of their SABOT ammo If any military people read this who served in IFVs/APCs What is SOP as to what sort of ammo to use on what targets? We are disscussing this down in beta land and would like to know what is realistic before any changes take place Thanks!
  14. Abu Susah the first scenario in the list can be played from the Syrian side and has IEDs
  15. Oh I agree immobilization is over the top but don't be suprised if you pop smoke with infantry out in front and wound or even kill them I will bring this up to the BF powers that be
  16. This is realistic In the German army SOP was not to stand anywhere within a 60 degree cone in front of the Marders while they were poping smoke They shoot out of their launch tubes with alot of force In 1999 a German mech infantrymen was killed with a smoke canister hit him in the chest and shattered his breast bone Immobilizing a Styrker is a little over the top but casulties can result if you are hit by the smoke round
  17. The scenario editor is 10x more fleshed out than in CM 1 There are almost endless possibilities and you can create for gorgeous maps And it is only going to get better as the average level of computing power inscreases and maps can become larger and more elaborate I think in about two weeks when people learn the editor better and get the AI plans down we will see a steady stream of scenarios that only get better and better in terms of quality
  18. That is not accurate as far as I can tell Yellow circles are lightly wounded who can still move (slowly) and function Red circles mean either dead or badly wounded
  19. Ok I logged your suggestion for both the new entry command and for being able to pause and issue orders in elite mode in RT Hopefully something good will come of it, both are good ideas
  20. Those SA-7s are not going to be all that useful in a ground war unless they are used as really expensive metal clubs to beat their enemies
  21. In RT you can string together orders which I find myself doing alot I have not played turn based since the very early dats of the beta I was like most everyone here and did not like the idea of RT But early in the beta they asked us to test it and I never went back I find myself easily able to manage up to a company sized game with ease And being able to double click on anything and select the entire platoon or company makes thing so much easier than in CM 1 days where I had to do long distance moves one unit at a time No I can double click and move a company clear across the map in seconds I encourage everyone to give RT a try I think many will find some advantages to playing that way I think the battle flows much better and games take much less time which is good for me since I have limted playing time And with a simple key press of escape you can pause the battle and issue orders at any point Pausing also helps me break the battle down and makes me take my time Pause and issue a set of orders Watch it unfold Pause and issue a set of orders Watch it unfold etc etc It breaks the battle down into small phases and helps me cordinate my forces much more easily The battle progresses and things seems like I am in control and every possibility is accounted for So again I cannot stress this enough Take your time and dont just rush your infanty across four city blocks to an objective Keep your units within supporting distance of one another, use overwhelming fire power, use the slower movement commands and keep your units out of LOS as much as possile by keeping them out of areas were LOS lines are long Scenarios were designed to be 45 minutes, 60 minutes or even longer Make use of all that time
