  1. It would be funny to say yes, but actually no. I admire the communist idea, everyone is happy and so on, the problem is... I just don't believe it's working. Democray is not working, too. But at least it's the best idea till now. Churchill expressed my own feelings about democracy in a perfect way. So, after your nazi radar, the communist radar is activated? Lets give the others a chance to get back to topic.
  2. That book is a good one. I never read it, but I often heard referring about it. I speak about university circles. I don't know for sure what you mean with the part of the german worshipper, but just in case you meant my own comment, I want to assure you, that I did not write about xwormwood, but Blashy and even Blashy I did not want to take for a german worshipper, even if I believe that this legend-bullship is nazi-Crap. I don't even know how other nations think about that dagger-thrust-legend, but germans have their own opinion about it and we are naturally good informed about that aspect of history. He said the germans could have won the war if not betrayed by their leaders, what is simply wrong. But okay. The problem is, this was one of the big slogans the Nazi Party used to gain power, and it was important for me to correct this. But even if it's dangerous ground he is walking on, I don't think he did know that and even more, I don't think, only because of that, he is a German Worshipper. I want to make this absolutly clear, rambo. So if its possible to understand my posting in this sense, I want to say sorry to Blashy. My english is'nt that good, that I have control about every feeling my texts may wake and perhaps I was a little harsh
  3. Three other things: - Because of the fog of war, you can't see the enemies fighters loss. In reality you would know them, your own pilots will surly tell you their bodycount But it's not a joke, it's important to see them just to see if an air war is good or bad for you. - Same with MPP losses. My intelligence and the enemies newspapers will gladly offer me information about how devastating my bombing raids were. - Personally I find the fog of war very interesting. It's a nice thing never to know what the enemy is doing, but your planes can detect everything in a giant area. I think it's to much. Around GB for example, it's impossible to operate, the RAF will immediatly notice you. It would be wonderful, if perception is not a present, but something you have to work for. Something like Detection Air missions were a good idea. I dont give it a chance, but if it's possible it would be great. On the other hand different detection values would be nice. I thought about giving my subs a bigger detection rate, reflecting their ability to get unseen everywhere, but then again they would be able to look far within the land. A difference between Sea and Land Perception would be fine.
  4. Lol... NOW I understand. You are thinking around corners. I know that kind of modding from my time with civilization2 where you must use what you have and that is not much. As long as HC does not implement GVs, you have to work that way. It's a great idea. Thanks for explaining.
  5. - Another one: There is no chance to make a deal with neutral nations without a convoy, right? That's very pity. Perhaps you could implement the chance to make "land-convoys". Swiss for example made many nice transactions with the germans. - Then the Antiaircraft-tech. Its city improvments does only improve the bomber defence, right? Why not the Fighter Defence? At least as an option, perhaps? For different scenarios or different tastes?
  6. Uhm... let me repeat. You can script research and building plans. Something like: Research Rockets: Chance of 20% Research Submarines: Chance of 30%. And in another script: Building rockets: Chance of 20% Submarines: Chance of 30% Right? If that is true, you have the problem, that the 20% Chance to research rockets may come true, but also the 30% chance to build submarines. Then the Germans could build superrockets, but in fact they build lousy submarines. I don't know for sure if you meant this, but at least it's the thing I can imagine by now (as I said, I try to learn the basics, and the AI is nothing I was busy with, yet). But if that is true, how can you solve that problem with impassable units at the end of the world?
  7. For HC it would mean one big time of work, and then waiting for you modders to make the other patches I entered this thread when ND opened it, and I was sure it was a total good idea and highly interesting, but I just did not know what he was speaking of. Really, although till now I did not test any of your works (I make my own map at the moment and try to learn the simple basics of scripting for myself), I have to admit that I'm looking forward to play the game with your modded scripts. Please keep going.
  8. Its simply not important what the ALlies thought. They knew they would win at the long haul, and that was enough. They had some goals for a piece and they fought as long as those conditions were met. Important is what the GERMANS thought, because you refer to a GERMAN, not to an Allied legend. And the OHL did know exactly, that the front was breaking down. Just before the end they admitted it, of course not to the people. It was an internal paper. Funny thing, this legend was highly supported by members of those group, that set up this paper. They knew exactly that it was a lie. The Allies never had a break through, but only because the Germans surrendered before. It was clear for the Allies and the Germans that this was a matter of a short time. The front was breaking, everyone knew it. More and more germans were becoming POWs. You really believe we did not try to make piece? With EXACTLY THE SAME WORDS? Are we talking about the same war? We DID try. The Conditions were clear. The Emperor had to go and Germany have to surrender completely. That was the problem. With an emperor like Willy you cant make such a piece, he would never have agreed to it, and a complete surrender is nothing you really like, if you are the looser. And Willy even thought about taking some military and shoot down people on the streets. He did not... When he was finally resigned by some politicans, the way for peace was made. They really did? After the war there was the Peace of Versaille, that is the pinacle of that Legend and I believe it's that what you mean by "at any cost". But how to prevent it? The conditions of that piece contract were so hard, that the Germans thought about taking the weapons again. But whatfor? To pay even more money after a senseless attempt? The Reich *broke together*. Two german states were proclamated, people rise on the streets, german soldiers took the right in their hands. There were rises everywhere, communists, nationalist, socialists... This was the situation in that german politicians had to decide if to sign that piece of Versaille or to keep fighting, after parts of your army began to rebel and other parts of the people would have lynched you on sight. There simply was no way out. Some politicians resigned, because they did not want to sign that contract. But even they did know, that there was no other way. You simplify a complicated matter. And far worse, you repeat a long time disproved legend, brought up by some of the most evil germans of this time. People, who brought Germans into the most devastating war the world had ever seen, who disliked democracy and tried to destroy it, who helped the Nazis in the end to get their power. ...and to make myself absolutely clear: This is Nazi Crap. You are walking on dangerous grounds..., friend. But it's your decision. After reading your answer I would not recommend you to read OTHER books about, but to read books about. Or perhaps wikipedia in your own language?
  9. Sorry, for quoting a very old posting, but I'm new in the forum and reading with interest those threads. Over a week ago Blashy wrote: I have to comment this. You are referring to the "Dolchstoss-Legende". The situation in WW1 was a starving german people, its soldiers were unwilling to fight, communist ideas were growing, the people were more and more angry about their government. The situation in France was similar, but the Allies in the west had one advantage. The United States. In the WW2 the US played another role, but in WW1 they had almost NO military impact. They delivered material and brought fresh troops, won almost no battle (because battles in WW1 were almost everytime lost for both sides in the later years), but what they did was much. They replaced exhausted british and french troops and much more important: their Dow was a symbol. The exhausted Germans didnt want that war anymore, and at that point one of the largest countries in the world even BEGAN their war against them. Truth is: although of the big victory in the east, german military was at an end. There was no way forward, there was no way backward, there were just slaughter at the front. That is (military spoken) okay, if the the enemy has the same problem, but after the Americans enter, the game was finished. Please remember... Germany had 20! Tanks... okay, they were big. They were battlecruisers of the land, but look on the masses of tanks on the other side... Germany... had some problems with its leaders. The Emperor was a fool, who did not know what really happens on the front, the military leader wont give up. Everyone repeated to say "keep going, carry on, dont loose the war". A last attempt to win the war was made, the Frühjahroffensive of 1918, of course it was lost, the break down of the german military was a matter of months. At this time resistance grow in the Reich. Some politicans tried to convince the emperor to resign his throne to save germany, he did not. After a short while one of this politicians said to the people the Emperor would have resigned (he didnt)and Germany broke together. There was NO way to win that war! But the german military was very proud. They never confessed they had actually lost this war. And this idea grew fast. Of course the soldiers would have won this war. But this weak and fearful traior-politicians surrendered, may god build a special hell for them! Why the people believed that legend? The german propaganda was very good in ww1. Germany triumphed about Russia and from the western front you heard only from victories. The problems in Germany, and also the fact of an exhausted, hungry and suffering people, did not result for a big part of the people in a believe to loose that war. Of course the people suffered, but they suffered for *winning* that bloody war. And the government satisfied its people with wannabe-victories. In the pubs you saw german civilians plan strategies, it was kind of a hobby. Like today every one is a football trainer and knows exactly how to help his team to win a contest. The soldiers indeed told other stories, but whatever the reasons were, the conclusion that Germany may loose this war, grew only very, very, very slow. Why some parst knew the break down, why others not, why some people still loved the emperor and others hated him, this is a very complicated thing and my time and english is not enough to describe it now. After a time... you forget such things. YOu forget the long suffering, you remember, that your military is very cool. You see, that your country is crap, because the victors take so much money from you. And you definitly remember those damn politicans who are responsible for loosing the war. Surrendering with an intact army? What a joke! Armies rarly are defeated because they are weak, no one confesses that. The own military is strong and more important: the own military is correct, they are fair, they are nice and if you loose a war, you need the guilty ones. You see it in other legends, let's take WW2. Even today some in Germany and around the world (WHYEVER!) believe the Nazis are the bad guys, of course, but the Wehrmacht put a nice and fair fight. Listen to some Britains or Americans about the Wehrmacht. Nice Comments, though. Of course that are only a few voices, but many listen to them, Germans and others. Of course the Germans did many, many evil things. But not the Wehrmacht. That was Hitler, that was the SS, we were overrun by the nazis and after they formed the government, what should we have done? An order is an ordner and if you dont obey, you are shot. Those bloody Nazis are responsible for that whole crap, and no other Germans. Surly not! Do you want to say that MY gradfather, who served in the big war..... Of course, that is not true. No one was ever executed for don't obeying a killing order of civilians or even the russian kommissars. The Wehrmacht simply participated in that whole crap, freely! Not all... but many... I really don't know where all that crap is coming from... but nations tend to be proud on their military, whatever they do or have done. I find this very disturbing... and I'm glad to live in Germany, because most people have a very distorted feeling about military and if I see the opening of the "german white house" (bundeskanzleramt) and the militar plays old german songs but NOT the german hymne, I can't help myself but like it. But in the last years we go into the other direction and I fear for some things here... What? Thats not the topic? Yes, sorry.. The Dolchstoss-Legende was one of the major factors why parties like the Nazis grew in power. And it's a pity to read till today, that people think it's real, because it's as far from reality as anything can be. I recommend some other books, never trust a book that believes in the Dolchstoss-Legende.
  10. by the way... thanks to bloodstar for the link to military production. If I see those numbers, I can only guess why the war took so long I once heard in a documentary Hitler speaking (it was recorded by the finnish secret service). He said: "Okay, if would have known that a the Russians could build sooo many tanks... <pause>... then I would have been even more sure to attack them." A little lesson about how Hitler's brain worked. One thing about about that link: I was wondering if we had carriers at that time, I believed we had'nt and I found: http://www.geschichtsthemen.de/dtkriegsmarine03-WKII.htm Translated: Also in Gotenhafen were the one and only german Aircraft Carrier, "Graf Zeppelin". Half finished and without flight deck and guns, they stopped the prodution after the loss of the "Bismarck". The story behind this is the so called "Z-Plan" by Erich Raeder. I read: translated: Early 1939 Raeder (german leader of the Kriegsmarine) convinced Hitler to a big production plan, the so called Z-Plan, that was mainly directed agains Great Britain. For becoming real 5 to 6 years were planned. Finally, he wanted to produce: ... (read it for yourself, I'm sure you know the german terms for those shiptypes more than I do ). The War with Britain destroyed this plan.
  11. You speak about a game... A game has to be balanced... Of course, the Germans are superhumans. If not, how could they stand a chance to win this game? Remember, Germany has lost and for good reasons. UdSSR had sooo much more manpower, the US too and even more, they had so damn many ressources and yes, the British controlled a large part of the world. How could the Germans have won with such a big part of the mightiest powers in the world on the other side? I often read in this forum, that HC said he did give a **** about history and if that's true, he is right. A game has to be belanced. That is the one and only thing about games. What do you want with a totally historic game, Germany would have a chance to win this war till mid 1941 and after that there is only hope to take as much enemies with you into the grave as you can? I don't believe that the Germans could have beaten the Russians, even without a second front. In this game the Germans CAN win, only the fear for an invasion keeps enough germans in the west to prevent the Russians to be crushed with the blink of an eye. But if the US can trasfer soo many units, what would Germany possibly do? Abandon the Eastern Front? Not even DoW on Russia? Where would be the fun in the game? The US and GB have sufficent ressources and sufficent men to have a *chance* to open a second front and to defeat together with the russians the german armies. The Germans have a *chance* to defeat the Russians and to throw out the western Alliance out of Britain or France. And that is exactly what you want and this exactly what you need. Nothing more. You speak about some kind of complicated chess. Of course the Knight has a big armour and a big sword, but the Queen is stronger... game balance. And if you are not pleased, give the americans some more units. A couple of corpses less, a couple of armies more. What's the big deal? You have an editor! ... Besides of that I read some very nasty things about the Europeans and their view of the States. But we both may never forget, that there are different people with different opinions in the States and in Europe. And even if a large part of Europeans critizize american foreign policy, I HIGHLY DOUBT! that there is someone who want to keep the US-Armies low in a game like SC because they "hate" the Americans. That is a foolish thought and I only want to call it "americtrash" (I refer to a post in this thread). I think most people, whether they critizize the US or not, do definitly know what the US engagement in ww2 meant: freedom from Hitler. And you don't have to think, that we forgot. But you also don't have to think, that we have so simple minds, that we don't see a difference between ww2 and today. And to those Americans who filled this thread with nothing but hate, I want to say the following thing: Before the Iraq DoW, there was the question if we send help to defend the Turkey against Iraq. There was a hard discussion about this in Germany and we decided not to do this at this time. To do it, would have meant a large step in direction of war, what we didn't wanted. There were NEVER the option to leave turkey alone, if the Iraqis would have done something stupid we would have helped what we could, but we tried everything to prevent this war. But in american newspapers I read a totally different story about it. Regarding theses stories we would have simply finished with the turkey. "Let the Iraqis attack Turkey, is that our problem?" I only read simple lies in those stories and I was shocked, because I admire american newpaper culture before 9/11 and I'm glad that they seem to get awake after a long slumber... My recommendation to those Americans and to those european America-Haters would be to try to *understand* what we believe, what we think and WHY we do so. Finally we may have different opinions about some things, but correct me if I'm wrong, at last we are kind of friends, aren't we? And isn't it the minimum level of friendship to try to *understand*? This Europebashing is nothing more than Americabashing. Simply foolish and it gets us nowwhere. We all have to fight for our points of view, but we may never forget, that on the other side are real people, not that much different than we are. It's everytime a good think to learn how and why people believe in something.
  12. Argh! That is really possible?? I ever thought you could only change the size to south and east (for what reasons whatever). How can you do it? I seem to be too stupid for it.
  13. Hi there, my manual is not very informative about some mechanics, but perhaps does someone know. 1)What exactly does the silent-mode for submarines do? 2)Exactly HOW are the combat values working? Lets pretend the attacker has a soft attack value of 1 and a soft defence value of 2. The defender has a attack value of 3 and a defence of 4. What will happen? Furthermore, what's the meaning of experience, readyness and moral? If I'm ready with 50% do I get only 50% of the combat value? I can read in the manual how the values are created, but not what they actually do in the game. 3)I dont believe my manual in some aspects. So it says that the antiaircraft-tech does only improve bomber defence but ignores the abilty to defend fighter attacks. / The second thing is regarding the tanks. The Tank-Tech raises only the Soft Attack and Soft Defence, but leaving the Tank Attack and Tank Defence as it is. That would mean, that a L5-Tank, which attacks a L1-Tank, has the same result as if the attacker would be a L1-tank. Is it true?
  14. What I really meant, of course, was: Please let me know if something is not to be expected because of the game engine or just because it's nonsense.
  15. I'm not one of the four main modders of this site but please let me add something. Okay, it's not really important for the main scenario, it's more a kind of having more options for scenarios in general. So it may have a lesser priority than the above posted suggestions (which I want to see in the game, too). 1) As far as I know it's not possible to direct MPP to a power by a script. Would open some nice opportunities for modders. If Germany takes that heavily guarded oil depot, it gets xy points per round like in the standard game, but additionally 300 in the turn of entering because of its storage). Also wishes for diplomatic mods could satisfied by this way. Spain enters the war but wants ressources from germany? Swiss is invaded and the Germans have fun robbing the banks? And so on... 2) Deleting unit improvements. Now it's only possible to buy them, but replacing combat losses may be expensive, so in a defensive state I would sometimes prefere to let that expensive motorization go. I can rebuy it later, if neccessary. 3) Better control of Operating Units. Several possibilites: a) Give modders the chance to modify the costs (the IS-Tech is only a step). Implement maximum level of operations possible per turn. c) Let us determine special cities to have a railway connection or not. It's every time interesting to imagine large parts of the german army operating into sibiria in one turn. Perfect would be a city upgrade. At least it would be nice to are forced to buy infrastructure-points in cities. So it would be more or less expensive to operate units to this or another city. Furthermore, can you change the Operating-Formular into something like x / 10 * unit-power? Units with a value of 1 are so expensive to operate as units with a value of 10. Or is it intended the way it is? 4) Smaller Nations or Free Units Upgrade. What is the point in having French, Canadian or Romanian Armies. They are just canon fodder. 5) Free Units Nation Change. I don't give them much chance because of the engine, but I would be glad if it's possible. To change the french units in GB after reconquering France would make me very happy. 6) Damn.. can't translate it... :/ if you want to see the game results, let's say the body count, how many units you have lost, you see the percentage what country has lost how much, but you dont see the exact numbers, like in SC1. The game shows only numbers up to 100, what is far too less for my taste. 7) Please change the general value-Maximum. Of course a corpse with more than 25 movementpoints is not very interesting (except perhaps for some weird people), but please imagine a HUGE Map, with Great Britan on the left Ende and Germany on the other End. With an attack range of 25, even with the 5 additional points for the tech, your bombers could just bombard the Ocean. 8) Please let us modify the tech-mechanics. What is the upgradecosts, what does it do? Yesyesyes, it will not be happen. 9) The editor... is there a way to add some features to it? A fill-function would be nice or at least the choice if the main part of the tiles is ocean or land. I created a 256x128-map and it needed centuries just to draw empty land. A fill- function could do that in seconds. Oh yes... and a bigger brush in minutes.... And what about a kind of "smooth-terrain-button", I use that term because I played Warlords back in '98 (?) and the scenario editor had that function. You draw your land and after that the game automatically sets coastlines next to your tiles. If you arent happy with the result, you can still change it manually. At the moment it would take hours and hours to make the coast just for a small map like the Fall Weiß, but it's horrible to do it for a 256x128 map. Please let me know if something is not to be expected because of the game engine or just nonsense.
  16. Perhaps rarer storms, but more devastating? 10% loss is a joke. I'm just ignoring this feature. But I would prefere to be frightened to send troops, because a storm could mean to loose units. So... never transport in winter By the way, can you change this with the editor? I don't understand the weather-thing at all.
  17. That's a real problem, yes. In normal game you can defeat Russia with Corpses only. A Corps with IW3 has 80% of an armies power, but is faster in movement and building time and lot cheaper. So what is the point in building armies? Therefore I tend to play without IW-Upgrades. The Problem with your idea I see in in the fact, that ALL units have the power to get over 10. For every point in experience you get the option of upgrading them one point at a turn. A very costly, very slow, but unbelievable strong element in the game. And because of that... I don't believe there is a way to make your idea work, not now and not in future patches. It's just the game's engine. (Please correct me, if I'm wrong). Furthermore, I fear there is no solution for that problem anyhow. I'm very unhappy with that IW-Tech. WIth IW I have very disturbing results in combat. FOr example in a game with two sides having IW3 I attack with a full army a one-point-corpse and I'm still loosing 3-4 points. My idea was at first to give the land units a very higher attack value, let's say 5. Development of IW1 would only mean to raise that unit's SA-Strength by 20% instead of 100%. I never tried it, but I fear it means that attacker and defender are destroyed or such rubbish, because the Defence has something to do with the damage it does. Don't know for sure. No way, I dont use IW. Not even 1 point.
  18. Interesting, I heard we havent the full translation, but so what. Thats a very annoying situation, because it's very timeconsuming. There must be a better way. Perhaps Hubert can add some features for the editor? Please imagine a 256x128-map with 90% Land-Tiles. There must be some kind of fill-feature, not to speak of the coasts. Otherwise only Nerds will do their own maps. I found a link to Fantomas Page in Huberts Posting, but the Links seem to be down. It's a pity, I would like to use it.
  19. Hi there, I’m a little confused about the Editor. I posses the german version and I heard we have not the full editor-explainations, so please forgive me, if my questions are already answered in the english manual, but I'm a kind of helpless at the moment. Well... 1) Is it possible to import or better: convert maps from another source. Let’s say we have a jpg from a part of the world. Is it possible to convert it into something SC2 can use? 2) Is there anywhere in the game a “fill”-Button? Im trying to make a huge map and I'm getting mad by drawing piece by piece. And if not, is there a tool or something I could need? 3) The Coast Lines... uhm... at the moment I draw every single piece of coast and I need hours for it. Is there a smooth-function or something alike? Or a tool, that adds automatically coastlines to the placed landpieces? Hm... yes, that's all for now. I would be glad, if someone knows.
