  1. @LampCord That is why when I play the Germans I don't envade England until after I take down Russia, it is too easy to take England out first. I even tired ignoring France and England in one game. I left troops on the Sigfred line and declared war on Russia in early 40. The scripts just don't know how to adapt to that as neither Italy, Romaina, Hungry or Finland would join me even thought I easly rolled over Russia. France and England just kept hitting the Sigfred line doing little damage, it was a strange game.
  2. I don't have a problem with how the turns are set up now, I think they have found a fairly good balance with weather and length. I do wish however that since this is a turn based game that the weather would be the same for both sides in the same turn. I am not a very lucky person and the other guy always seems to get better weather then I do
  3. Yep it is nice having HvH allows the game to have a lot of replayability. I do hope that they consider multiplayer. Get 5 friends together each playing a major would be a blast, that way when I get my butt kicked I can blame it on one of my allies
  4. God how I hate Mud, I would rather have snow, sure seems like some years there is only about 2 or 3 good weeks of weather to have a good fight in Keep the AAR going this sounds like it could get interesting.
  5. @Lars Thanks a bunch for that info, that works perfect and makes MUCH more since, that option is going on as soon as I get home and fire up the game. EDIT ADDED: Maybe I should read the manual instead of just browsing through it
  6. If you don't have Admin rights and they have restricted the normal user, as is the case with most large company networks these days, heck I don't even give my kids admin rights on the home PC, then no you won't be able to unless you can get permision or have a friend that has admin rights. Good luck!
  7. Hummm Railheads? That is new to me, is that an option that only allows you to Operate from main rail centers? I would guess any city would be considered a rail center. If this is the case that option goes on as soon as I get home. I always thought it was a bit gamey to Operate your troops to and from just any old place, the movement of an entire army by rail is not all that easy. By the way if cities are Railheads then if they get dropped to 0 by bombing then does this take away the "Railhead?" I would guess not but I could only hope.
  8. Just the fact that '2000' were in the drunk tank does not mean your army can't fight. However I think it is an indicator of the general moral of your army. My understanding is that it was a lot more then just 2000 in a drunk tank but that army wide drinking and moral issues were VERY serious problems for the French. So they lacked any kind of leadership, many didn't even want a war and moral of the regular troops, army wide was very bad. You really think some static line no matter how long/deep was going to change the out come. I think not.
  9. Sure you can escape a pocket by moving through the gap but Operate is something MUCH different then a fighting withdrawal. Operate simulates loading up all your troops on train cars and shipping them out. Ok so in real life you are telling me that had the Germans decided to get their army out of Stalingrad just before the collapses of the pocket that they would of just loaded them all on trains and waved goodbye to the Russian troops? Allow them to move out of the pocket under their own power and movement rates, sure of course but to allow them to use infrastructure such as trains to just vanish to say Berlin, then in two weeks being fully refitted and reinforced reappear on the front lines to me is just a silly notion. Once again I think Operate should NOT be allowed if a unit is in contact with the enemy or if the move to square puts them in contact. I mean you can't upgrade your units when in contact with the enemy, Operate should be under the same rule for the same reasons.
  10. I have to agree with Lars here. If you want Diplo to be secret then if FOW is set take out the %'s in the diplo screen other wise it is just a matter of button pushing and frankly the less buttons I have to push for readly avalible information the better it is.
  11. See my topic on Operated, I don't think you should be able to operate in or out a unit to a square with an enemy next to it. I also agree that it is awfully hard to tell who contols a certain square, it would be nice for some type of indecator.
  12. If you have liberated Paris the game is all but over anyway unless things have gone very badly in the East. In most of my '39' campaigns it is a race to see if Berlin falls first or Paris. With the U.S. having such a slow production start it is hard to mount a full attack on France before the issue in the East has already been decided. Of course for the most part that is the way it was in history as well.
  13. Didn't know there was an option to turn it off and I tended to use it too offten, I now have it disabled By the way couldn't the save game be programed with a 'counter' so every time the the game is saved the counter gets updated and saved as well. I know this wouldn't stop people from copying the file and re-doing it but that would make it harder, after all locks don't stop thiefs they just help keep the honest honest.
  14. I was playing the Russians last night and had nearly surrounded a German unit, only one square open. The battle was intense and after it was over the German unit had one strength left and most of my units had various damage. I expected the AI to reinforce the unit but instead I heard the rail sound and the unit vanishes from sight, two turns later to show back up full strength. I would think that 'Operate' should be like upgrades not allowed when in contact with the enemy. I just had this vision of after a week long battle with heavy loses on both sides, my troops wave goodby to the Germans as they load themselfs on rail cars and vanish.
  15. @TaoJah You are correct and I did not mean it as an insult to the French, Just saying how I saw the conditions in Europe before the war started. After WWI the French really didn't have the will or the means to fight another war so soon and can you really blame them? I will say however that had the French and English not been so hard on the Germans on peace terms for WWI there may never of been a WWII. I would leave the Line as it is in the game, it is not too easy and not to hard and really plays a small role in the over all conflict.
  16. I have NEVER played a game that didn't have a bug or two creep in. That is to include the Panzer General series which had patches after the game was released. Over all I am finding SC 2 to be a very fun game to play, even though I prefer a turn based tatical game like the Panzer General series which I loved, SC 2 has a lot going for it so give it a chance.
  17. France was in a total mess before the war, both economically and politically. Heck there was a very large portion of French society, well even quite a few English that wanted to join the Axis and fight the Communist. If Hitler had not been such a totally detestable psychopath world history might of been different. By the way under those conditions what were the Brits thinking when they sent the BEF knowing the French situation??? The second biggest mistake they made in the war IMO, only out done by puting Monty in charge of anything other then latrine officer Back on subject, wasn't it Patton who said something like? "If man can over come natures greatest obstacles how stupid of us to believe we can't over come man made ones." With the state France was in at the start of the war I don't care if they had made the Maginot Line ring the country twice the Germans would of rolled them.
  18. LOL Yea good ole Uncle Joe had a few of those Correct me if I am wrong about the Siberian troops or large reserves in the east, but didn't Uncle Joe fear an attack from the Japanese and they were only used after Pearl Harbor and after he was sure the Japanese were 'preoccupied' with the Americans.
  19. Also you can't load the units under certain weather conditions. I assume you know that you have to declare war in order to cross borders.
  20. To be honest that is how we won the Revolutionary war, we lost most of the battles we just hung in there until it became clear to the Brits that we weren't going to just roll over and at the time America was not making the Empire much money so it wasn't worth it to them to continue. Also that is basicly how the Russians beat the Germans, It didn't matter that the Germans were causing 20 casuilties for every one of their's when the Russians had 100 men to every German (Yea I know those numbers arn't anywhere near acurate but close enough for the subject) EDIT ADDED: Well I think the subject has been hashed out in very fine detail and for the most part with very little flames, I applaud the SC comuinty for this. Now I think we just have to sit back and wait to see what they do in the patch [ May 09, 2006, 10:38 AM: Message edited by: Rolend ]
  21. In the early part of the war Russia did need some help but I am convinced that had England made piece with Germany after the fall of France and the U.S. stayed out of Europe and focused on the Pacific that eventfully Russia would of won out. Once the Russians had 'liberated' Western Europe there is no reason to believe that they would of acted any differently then they did with Eastern European countries. So I would have NO problem with a third side, after all that is the way it really was.
  22. Oh I agree that the best solution is a tech, but is it practical at this point. I would think that would require some hefty programming to implement and you normally don't see that in a game after it has been released. To Rambo, I think you have watched one too many Rambo movies
  23. Blackbellamy but that is the problem, it is hard to simulate tatical level combat in a stratigic level game. Take Normandy as an example, the Allies took what ~12 hours from the time they left port to the time the men were ashore? In SC2 each turn is one week, there is no way for the Germans to react to a 12 hour event when they have to wait a week. I love playing turned based games but there are problems with it as no matter what time frame you use the other side stands by and watches unable to react. On large scale army actions this can be over come by things like zone of control. Maybe the answer would be to have zones of contorl for navy units and something along the lines of intercepts for air and navy units against amphib units. However that is a lot of changes for something that really only effects one aspect of the game and only stands out when dealing with amphib ops. If it was not so easy to pull off Sealion I don't think anyone would have much problems with how amphib ops are treated. So the question remains how do you make it much harder to pull off Sealion without altering the game in a major way? I am interested to see how they do that
  24. I don't think you can stop Russian or Yugoslavian partisans at all, if there is a way please let me know, I get one or two Russian Partisans a turn, not a big problem but a pain in the tush.
  25. Yea I got mine yesterday and the first thing I thought was where the heck is the CD Didn't realy need it as I had already down loaded the game so I wasn't that worried. It is nice having the book to refer to now instead of dropping out of the game to bring up the manual. By the way nice job guys, so far I am having a blast and I have not encountered any bugs.
