Now THAT'S an interesting idea. Maybe the lag I'm getting is related to custom scenarios...
Some crashes do seem scenario related, although they always crash for some people but not for others.
There's a bug here, somewhere.
-
This is the same latency/lag/whatever problem that me and panzermartin complain about. It isn't just blue on blue. It's every scenario above a certain size.
I make my own scenarios for multiplayer, but most of them have too much lag. Try a small map with only a couple vehicles and maybe a platoon on each side. Like the Al Huqf Engagement scenario.

They sent out another email that said wait til tomorrow.
The UFO Afterlight patch took over a month longer on Gamersgate. I don't think I'll buy another game there.

Yeah, I have to keep retargeting units to get them to fire. It's a bit frustrating- sometimes units on their own are completely on the ball and slaughter everything in their arc. The M1 tanks are really good at that.
Other units, like ATGM teams, are retarded. I'm sure it'll get fixed, but on big scenarios and multiplayer (when it works) it's tough to get owned because a unit is just stupid.

Got my hopes up this morning when Gamersgate emailed me... then they sent another email that said 'tomorrow.'

I'll help with this one! Are we doing something wrong? Seriously, it's NOT PLAYABLE. I have no one to play with anymore in my guild because of all the crashes and lag. I'm stuck with single player until it's fixed.
-
No point now. Let's get it fixed.

In scenarios that me and my friends made for multiplayer the snipers shot. Quite effectively, too. The Barrett is really good at killing people in buildings. The campaign snipers don't seem to do much.

Google Earth is the best.
Tru dat, DOUBLE TRUE.

I did the exact same thing. Why fight when you can shell? Same result- stuck at 50% on next mission. CMSF wasn't responding so I ended the app. I have a save game in the mission. Hopefully it won't repeat. I'll try just leaving it.
Pentium 830d, 2 gigs RAM, 2 7800GTX SLI
EDIT: OK, now that it loaded it's clear that it's just a big map.

I was going to ask about body armor. A real test would be to also run the same scenario with the US forces dug in and the Syrians attacking and see if they take significantly fewer casualties. Then you can see what the effects of trenches are.Originally posted by metalbrew:I suspect a lot of damage is absorbed by US body armor. Put a platoon of Syrian SF (they also have body armor) in the trench and I'd bet the US company is stopped.
Sure there's a lot of variables but I'm playing a hunch.
Hiding outside doesn't seem to work very well. I can only hide indefinately in buildings.

I've got the Gamersgate version so I haven't been upgraded yet. But I didn't see anything about multiplayer lag being addressed. That would be a great fix.

Yeah, we're all rapidly losing interest. It's just too frustrating. I really hope it gets fixed. I got everybody hooked on CMAK, they all bought this... and we can't play. I've made a bunch of tiny scenarios but there's only so much you can do with a platoon and an APC....
If there's some easy fix that I'm missing, I'd love to hear it!

I spam the target building with supressing fire (40mm and 105mm is great), then drive the Stryker close to the buidling. I try to block other possible sources of enemy fire with the building itself. I also try to park by a door. Then I have the infantry squad run into the first floor of the building.
This way, at worst I lose one squad and maybe the Stryker.
It's not like the old CM games at all! In those infantry needed to dismount to be your eyes. Now they are fragile targets that need to be preserved in order to take objectives. One thing that remains the same is that most of the actual killing is done by your vehicles.

Exactly what I have. I play these for multiplayer- no AI will ever be as good as human players. I'm extremely unhappy with the lag- I play FPS games with no problem (although I'd much rather play Combat Mission!) and it's not my connection. Single player works fine. Is there anything I can do to help this, or failing that is there any fix in the works?

Anyone else getting it? I'm not seeing much on the forum. My gaming guild has 4 people playing this, and we're all getting terrible multiplayer lag and crashes. Sometimes it's over a minute, and about half the time we cannot finish a game because someone crashes. Is this rare or common?
-
Eh, yeah pretty close. I like this game a lot, but I'm not recommending it until it's patched. I can't play multiplayer without it crashing half the time. Then there's the lag. That right there is killing it for the people I play with. It crashes once or twice and then we go do something else. Or there's so much lag that one player can't give orders and is frustrated.
When you have to fight a game to get it to do what you want, it changes the focus from gameplay to tweaking. I have to tweak a lot.

I've had nuclear car bombs that explode several times in a row. Pretty funny in multiplayer- I think it's caused by lag.
-
I simulate it with marsh. Vehicles can't cross it. Not quite accurate because of amphibious APCs, but close enough.
-
A mini map would be nice...
-
Saggers seem to work best at over 600 meters. Supposedly the minimum range is 500, but they seem to behave as if it's more than that. I can get them to fire manually out to over a kilometer. They hit about half the time so far. They have trouble with tanks, but kill APCs and light vehicles just fine.
They are of limited utility unless you have a long sightline and the team is well dug- in. Tanks will see them firing and shoot back immediately.

I go for total victory by forcing a Syrian surrender. I've gotten 2 minor defeats, a minor victory, and 2 total victories. Use the 120mm mortars and the Javelin missiles to destroy the enemy occupied buildings. Once I figured out Javelins it was easy. Just area target the first floor.
Last time I played I lost 15 killed, 1 Stryker. Just be patient and go for killing as many Syrians as possible.
Total victory through surrender is a good option on any scenario with tough objectives but plenty of firepower.
