I feel a "Smiths" tune coming on... exits stage right in a wave of nostalgia -->
How about: "A dreaded sunny day, meet me at the cemetary gates..." or "Mother, I can feel the soil falling all over my head..."
-
That's strange. I thought I had it all figured out. Back to the drawing board then.
I have noticed that if you use the link that appears directly after uploading, then it don't get embedded, but if you click on it to view what you've uploaded and then copy that link (from the browser adress window), then it gets embedded. Have only tried few, but it might be a clue.

Intriguing story and nicely captured screenshots Heinrich505.

After running into concrete bunker behaviour that seemed odd I did a test with MG bunkers between 40-500 m from M4 Shermans, either on level ground as the bunker or on a gentle slope. I have only run the test once, but some observations so far (and shouldn't be considered full conclusions just yet):
- Shermans only fire HE (not AP)
- Almost all hits are low of the embrasure, making penetrating shots very rare, even from 40 m
- Even when HE get penetrating shots, it doesn't kill the enire crew or even none of them. Wouldn't a blast like that in a confined space kill everyone instantly?
- Crew behaviour appears like this: one man is standing, manning the MG, the rest kneel below the embrasure. The only kills I saw was direct hits on the guy manning the MG - no matter how many hits they take, they never cower, no matter their state
- Since the main gun fires single shots, and those rarely penetrate, "Target Light" is actually much more effective as the bullits have a much greater chance of penetrating and hitting the standing guy, who is replaced by the next, and by the next and so on until the crew is gone. Even at a long distance "Target Light" is prefered
- The only way to knock out the bunker from the front is a direct HE hit on the MG itself, which causes the crew to abandon
-
Also my impression is that they don't work well for independent buildings.
The scenario I tried both posters and chimneys in CMFI only had independent buildings - maybe that is the cause?
-
I know about your campaign and very much look forward to it. I was refering to what General Lee Irked called "Breakout of Juno" which seemed like another scenario apart from your campaign.
-
Yep, have struggled with that as well. Like putting chimneys on buildings in CMFI. Same kind of problem.

Uploaded to cmmods - get it here
(and later at the Repository)
Great! Thanks for making it. My favourite McGyver thing was when he fixed a broken engine block with an egg - and drove away. Now that's something!
I'm starting to wonder if anything is uploaded to the Repository at all anymore. I've waited for a scenario to turn up now for more than a month.
-
I just finished Breakout from Juno for the 2nd time now this thread has me reviewing Operation Windsor again.
Is that a stand alone scenario or part of a campaign? Would love to have a look at it.

This will be fun to follow. Sure ain't bocage-country

Great to follow this matchup - intriguing map.

I have a Dell 24 inch 1920*1200 (U2412M) that is a joy to play CM on. The extra space is great since the UI takes up a large part of the lower screen.
-
That is really creative stuff. Top notch!

But the best thing since sliced bread will be the extra [censored] and the much improved [censored].
Over the years there has surely been a lot of stuff dubbed the best thing since sliced bread. Sliced bread, must now be waaaaaay down the list of great things.

Actually the main problem was for the German player (I didn't mind the shock as I neglected to pay notice to that part of the brief) who said he saw none of my units when the reinforcement arrived, despite som 5-6 tanks on the road to the bridge. So he plotted his first turn of moves with the belief that he could attack the bridge. Once he started the turn, all my tanks appeared and ruined his plan.
-
I was wrong, it was at about 35-40 minutes left. The ones that deploy on the south edge, on the road that leads up to the bridge. The main concern was the tank, but also infantry that on a side road had one of my tanks right ahead of him.

SPOILERS - suggestion for design change
The reinforcements that the Germans get with some 25 minutes left are "beamed in" straight in view. It seems that the German player doesn't spot until their first move is activated and so thinks that the coast is clear. It caused massive confusion in the PBEM I play now (Allies). Maybe you should add some trees or buildings and add to the map on that edge, so there is at least one full turn before contact is made.
-
Right, now I see it. I got confused by the shadows of nearby houses. It was easy to see from camera level 6. Good to know to keep away from it. I have a squad who is retreating awfully close to it though. Maybe in an eventual update, put barbed wire near it. Since the engineer has demo charges he can get near, and no units will exit by mistake.
-
SPOILERS - and not for your eyes Bob Willett
I'm in the middle of playing this as Allies as a PBEM. It is great fun. Really well made - and a first class map.
One question: the engineer and its HQ that you need to guide to the exit, where exactly is it? It is hard to tell with ALT+J turned on. Also, will other units in that square exit?

I stopped worrying about the price of BFC's products long ago. Why? Because I realized I'm not buying a game, I'm buying a drug And a powerful one at that.
You can do as many of the cheaper drugs as you want but you'll never get as high as the good stuff. And lord knows you don't ask your dealer for half price because "This bag has the same stuff in it as last time".

I've just recently started playing H2H games. I usually play Elite vs the AI and consider myself experienced at that level. The guys I play now wanted to play on Warrior level as that was their comfort level. But it made me think. Could it be so that I have more of an advantage of playing Warrior in comparison to the disadvantage they would have to play Elite? Would they stand a better chance and level the playing field (I'm not saying I'm winning easily ) playing Elite, even though it is a level higher than they are used to?

Welcome onboard - no matter which game you end up buying, you will have endless of hours of fun. And then there is the editor... and H2H, and QB:s ...
Just have patience - you will probably learn the game the hard way. It is perhaps the only way. Every time you make a mistake, instead of cursing yourself, stop for a while and analyze why it happened.
Kinda' wish sometimes that I was new to the game, just to experience the first thrill again. Guess that will come with the Bulge-game. It did for sure with CMBS.

Just started (after all these years... ) to play H2H - and this program is a great utility. Appreciated!

I like how you can see the smoke grenades deployed for self defense, but to no use - BOOOOM!

Good point akd - makes sense.
I made some more tests, so this is a revision of above mentioned observations.
Clusters - one good aim, one way too low.
Clusters - all too low.
Single AP-shot takes out bunker.
